What creatures should be staples of every TES game?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:28 am

Regardless of province/nation what creatures from the games and books should be found everywhere or at least make an appearance in every game?
Here's a few from me.
-trolls
-Daedra-all of them!! Looking at you Skyrim...
-mudcrabs
-anything else?

Daedra should always be present in Elder Scrolls. They're some of the most interesting characters and enemies in ES. Yeah, I'm looking at Skyrim too. I'm not really too keen on trolls, really wouldn't miss them.

Spiders. If they've made it into the frozen Skyrim, they should be fine everywhere

Rats. What would modern RPGs be without the mandatory "kill 10 rats in my basemant"?

Skyrim?

Skyrim had a rat quest in the Thieves Guild. Remember the Honningbrew Meadery quest? In the process, you had to go in the cellar and get rid of the Skeever infestation.

Meh...the Rats are supposed to be an initiation quest for the Fighters guild lol. Or in Skyrims case it should have been the Companions I guess. The Honningbrew meadery wasn't about clearing out rats though iirc was it? Wasnt it poison or something?

Spoiler
Yeah, but clearing out the rats was part of the quest. You needed to get the job of pest control to get the poison for the mead.

Vampires. They have been in every main TES so far and should continue to be in them.

I would like goblins, but I think they made a good decision not putting them in Skyrim. The enemies have very distinct and fleshed out roles and lore
as it is. They should be added in future games and fleshed out. Perhaps their absense in Skyrim could be justified with the idea that they mooch off of large cities for food and resources. They could be oppurtunistic scavengers with towns made out of garbage at sewer openings. Goblins could crawl out of the sewers and into city homes at any time, a terrifying prospect for citygoers.

snakes (i know they haven't been in any so far but it would make sense to have them in all the provinces so maybe they could be from the next one on)
but concerning pre existing ones (which i assume is what you ment) rats and mudcrabs

Dremora, while not exactly creatures, should always be there.

There should always be skeletons. As far as I'm concerned it's not a roleplaying game if it doesn't have sword and bow-wielding skeletons.

Not so much specific enemies here, so much as archetypes that can be filled with regional variants like Draugr or Skeevers:

Rat
Wolf
Deer
Ogre
Goblin
Lich
Zombie
Daedra

These quests should be about making interesting variations, not sticking to a worthless fetish about rats or crabs, or even the daedra. The daedra need to be explored like they were in Battlespire, or largely forgotten. The rats and mudcrabs are a waste of time for everyone now, players and producers alike.

That being said, every game needs a different type of lich. People embroiled up to their ears in magical knowledge who can't let it go, even in death.

Companions =/= FG. Completely different organization and technically the Companions aren't a guild, just a band of mercenaries with no actual ranking system.

as always the Daedra should remain a part of the TES series, they are a very important thing as well as natural creatures like rats, wolves, bears etc etc or just have wildlife thats exotic i.e. Morrowind's nix-hounds, alit, guar

I am aware they are different, however the Companions guild is clearly filling the role of the Fighters guild. Taking contracts and being the warrior group and all that.

This. Also werewolves because their lore is cool.

Well the lore says they are found every where. However Some provinces have unique were creatures like were-tigers in elsweyr, werecrocs in BlackMarsh, werebears are supposed to be in Skyrim, wereboars were in Daggerfall so they are found in either Hammerfell or High Rock, idk which, and even rumors of weresharks. I may be missing some but my point is there should be werecreatures in all the games. Funny that Oblivion which is supposed to contain ALL of those werecreatures is the only game without a single one. Well idk about Arena, Battlespire or Redguard to be fair though only Arena should really count.

I bet money that they're saving a bunch of Daedra for the expansion packs.

Just another piece of bait, so they can fleece us all over again... It's okay though... Bethesda can take my money.

Scribs. I hope at least some of them survived the erruption of Red Mountain...

Although, if I have to take lore into consideration, I'd say the various dwemer constructs.
I mean, those guys lived nearly everywhere.

Nah, they pretty much just lived in Hammerfell, Skyrim and mostly Vvardenfell and Morrowind as far as we know. I believe they did not want to compete with the Ayleids in Cyrodiil and everywhere else had other residents I believe.
