Crysis2 runs on CryEngine3, across all platforms.

Saying CE3 is an update of CE2 is like saying CE2 was an update of CE1.

Simply, Crysis 2 is based on CryEngine 3 built natively for pc, which takes care of the conversion of assets in real-time to run on consoles.

Depends what you justify as an "update", really.

4% of the original Farcry engine (CE1) remained in the Dunia engine. Would you classify Dunia as an update of CE1?

How much code from CE1 went to CE2 and how much of CE2 remained in CE3, i don't know. But from the changes listed, i personally don't classify CE3 as an "update", i classify it as a new engine. Crysis Warhead/Wars was an update to CE2 and that's exactly what Crytek marketed it as.

the biggest feature of CE3 is that they can edit on all 3 platforms live at the same time, so yeah Crysis 2 is CE3 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360

Crysis 2 runs on Cryengine 3 - EVERY version of the game runs on CryEngine 3. However, the settings each platform gets are tweaked depending on its performance. Stuff like draw distance, shadow resolution, etc. will be different depending on platform. On the PC these settings will be editable so that it runs with whatever settings you want.

this.

@Shinanigans, i was one of those people up until E3. i think many who feel that way just saw the GDC stuff which really did look like a superficial update of CE2 ("lets port it to consoles, and call it CE3 for marketing purposes").
now seeing the new 360 footage and especially the 3D (pc) trailer i do see changes that justify a new name.
