What did you do in Daggerfall today?

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:24 am

Kicked a rat to death because I couldn't equip my sword, rested, got killed by a second rat.

I haven't really played it, I was just testing to see if it worked.

Ok, I have an Elven broadsword now, and rats and thieves bow before me! Unfortunately, imps do not.

Tarous died many a time, humans are almost impossible to kill in Privateer's Hold except the thieves.

OT: does anyone know what my problem is cause whenever I die and it fades out the fading out takes forever, it took almost 3 minutes one time and it only faded out correctly once.

I picked a barbarian as I just wanted to jump into the game. What a goofy concept that you can't equip certian items, glad they got rid of that nonsense.

Its not really a goofy concept. Its more that ya cannot exploited right. Its that ya can have advantage and disadvantage, disadvantage have to balance it out with teh advantage so the player cannot become too powerful with only using advantage. There are some stuff I would know that I would not use (axe or hammer come into mind) and I would use the disadvantage so I can use more advantage. Here a wiki on it: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:ClassMaker#Special_Advantages and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:ClassMaker#Special_Disadvantages

I got lucky and found a silver broadsword of the archer in Privateer's Hold, so after a few bumps in the road, my Nord finally got out and travelled to Daggerfall. She has asked the smith to repair her sword, has sold of the loot she found and have joined the Temple. So after spending the night in the tavern, she will get her sword back and start on her Temple work. Oh, and helping out the smith with some problems he had.

After having done Queen Aubk-i's bidding (twice now), returning from Shedungent and then Castle Necromoghan, my custom Thief Kathris decided it was time to take some time off. With reports of increased hostility on the streets of Daggerfall at night, she decided it was becoming considerably more difficult to rob from stores. Pulled over in The Mole and Mug (her favorite local tavern) one night, she was bought a drink by her accomplice in the Thieves Guild as celebration, for she had been advanced to the rank of Robber. :foodndrink:

As the local populace of Daggerfall was just as boring as ever (albeit with the exception of many of the males, who have apparently fallen under the Mad God's sway and have begun http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010128), Kathris decided to ask the Spymaster what was going on. Even the court nobles were quiet, including King Gothryd who seemed to take a particular liking to the Wood Elf and her ability to deliver his various items to the lesser-ranking nobles without any complications. The Spymaster made mention of a local shopkeeper who had come into a sum of false gold and passed it off to his clients, unaware of his blunder.

Needing something to do during her stay in the kingdom (whilst waiting for the marriage of Princess Morgiah and Karoodil, a ceremony she had been invited to at the insistence of Barenziah and had been eagerly anticipating) before heading south, Kathris decided to take pity on the shopkeeper and aid him, albeit less out of pity and more for the generous 700 gold he had offered for each of the four false golden bars.

The first bar was located in the Palace of Ipshead. Waiting until the town's denizens were asleep, she scaled the walls of the palace and entered from one of the towers. She quickly located the gold bar on a table and pocketed it without hesitation, only to hear something stir behind her. It was a gargoyle - one of the ancient creatures enchanted to protect this place. It brought its mace towards her, but she ducked out of its swing and brought her dagger downward, slashing across its briast. The creature let out a soft growl as she proceeded to drive her blade through its heart. Hearing the noble and his family below awakening from the sounds of the fight, she quickly fled the palace. :ahhh:

The second bar was located in a local bank, the third in a house. Neither took a particularly great deal of effort to secure. The fourth was in Castle Necromoghan. Having recently returned from there to locate a package of letters for the queen, Kathris decided it was not worth the trouble - the damp, musty smell of the castle's dark winding passageways still all over her clothes.

En route to the tavern to reap her reward, a man who was supposedly one of the clients to receive the false gold had mentioned he caught word of the treachery. Demanding his proper pay, he implored Kathris to do him a favor - in exchange he would promise not to tell the nobles of Ipshead that she was the one who infiltrated their stronghold. Seeking vengeance against one of his business rivals, he asked Kathris to break into the man's shop and steal a priceless war axe. Kathris entered the store by day in order to survey the building's layout. However, the shopkeeper was busy taking inventory in the back room and she figured now would be just as good a time as ever to steal the item.

Kathris found the war axe alone on an empty shelf in the back of the shop, and quickly stuffed it into her satchel. A young Battlemage (most likely an apprentice of the storekeeper) materialized in front of her, likely the end of an invisibility spell. He fired a magical bolt at Kathris, which sent her crashing into the shelves of items behind her. Noticing the shopkeeper still preoccupied with his task and most likely partially deaf given the man's age, she decided to retaliate. She disarmed the Battlemage with a kick from her heel and then brought her dagger across the assailant's face. Quiet and ever resolute, the Battlemage closed in on Kathris, drawing a small tanto from his pocket. He lunged forward at Kathris, but she managed to block it and retaliate, bringing her blade behind him and driving it through his back. It was probably a good time to leave.

Even when not raiding dungeons, Kathris was starting to tire of the constant brushes with death. However, she returned to Daggerfall to be greeted by the first snowfall of the season. It had been a year since she first arrived, and the villagers were celebrating the New Life festival. Perhaps she could stay a little longer, at least until the blizzards begin. :)

I re dl'ed and now I can go past the race selection screen :hehe: After three tries I made it out of Privateers hold at lvl 5 with my Altmer powerhouse, but without the ebony dagger. Wound up at Daggerfall at night, climbed up the wall, loitered up there till day fell off and died trying to climb down. This time I waited before fast travel and got there during the day. For some reason I went to prison for two weeks and came out with a letter from the blade woman. I'm stuck trying to figure out which guild is best for me, and trying to find a dungeon where I can get a daedric daikatana.

Managed to get out of Privateer's hold, along with my nice elven sword. Went to Daggerfall City, but the king didn't want to talk to me. Provincial bastard, if the Emperor deigns it fit to talk to me, so should he. Got handed a letter as well. The sound stutters whenever I'm outdoors, though, so I turned the music off.

What are your CPU and core settings? You should set CPU to auto or dynamic (open up your dosbox.conf and find the line "cpu=normal" and change it to one or the other) and change cycles to max (do the same thing in the config but with the cycles= line).

I've completed two quests today. The first was for the Order of the Hour (Temple of Akatosh), which I just joined. (Fun fact: members of Akatosh get faster travel times, a blessing of Akatosh's dominion over time.) One of their priests was examining some fortress or something (I wish I remembered this one better). It's one those one's that starts out in a smaller room connected to a larger room with a hole in the floor that has a chain over it. A wheel opens the grate, and the chain lowers you in (provides a slowfall effect). This one was kind of fun. It didn't take long to find the lady, and it was nice being able to basically fly through the water (I played a non-spellcaster last time, and did my swimming the hard way). I'm not sure how I would have gotten out if I weren't playing a spellcaster; probably some lever I didn't bother to find since I just levitated out. So that was cool.

Considerably more involved was a task I undertook for the owner and proprietor of my favorite shop in all Daggerfall: the pawnshop in Oxbeth (a "rusty" pawnshop not too far from Daggerfall city). Congratulations to him: he's getting married... IF he can get an answer to his fiance's riddle. ("What can you give me that I could never possibly buy for myself?") So he sent me off to find her father, who is the one that made up the riddle. He sent me to his contact, who sent me to another contact bearing a gift: a copy of Wayrest, Jewel of the Illiac Bay.

I actually took the time to read it, and it was rather interesting. It seems there has been a settlement there for most of recorded history, as it served as a waypoint for merchants and fishermen. However, it didn't really take off until Orsinium was crushed, making the interior safe for the merchants of Wayrest. They also dealt with the Akaviri pirates on the Bay, and Wayrest sprung up, a great city ruled through cooperation between the noble family (the oldest continuous line anywhere according to the author, with the possible exception of the Septims) and the merchants.

The book dude sent me to a fort, where I battled werewolves, centaurs, knights, burglers, and bats: an unusual combination, in my opinion. Did I arrive in the middle of a battle (they all regarded me as an enemy, so their battle was irrelevant), or were they allies? It took some time, but I finally managed to find the guy hunched over in a cage at the end of a natural cavern connected to the fortress. I'm really not sure what he was doing in there... he seemed annoyed by my presence, and gave me the answer just to get rid of me. ("It's kindness, stupid!")

That taken care of, I returned to Oxbeth and handed the answer to the owner. He was grateful, gave me the promised payment, and I unloaded my wagon in his shop.

While I was investigating the whereabouts of the fiance's father, I received a letter from Princess Morgiah of Wayrest, regarding the Emperor's letter. So I planned to take ship from Daggerfall city to Wayrest. But first, I needed to unload my gold, which I did at the Mages Guild, getting a huge load of spells. I am presently at the gates of Wayrest, and plan to head first to the Mages Guild, to do some work for then, then to the Temple of Akatosh, to do some work for them, and finally the Palace, to meet with Princess Morgiah.

Oh man.
I can't believe i was playing Daggerfall for the first time tonight!

Well, my customised dunmer spellsword was trying to get out of the very first room in Privateer's hold and was getting killed by rat (rat!)

For a hour or so i was trying to get used to controlls and fighting. (and still learning to be honest)

After i finally got out, and went to Daggerfall, i was arested by guard, shouting "Halt" for something..i don't even know what have i done, sleeping in front of gates or something :) at least i got inside..

Then i tried to kill a "vengeance" -shoting ghost.
chilling stuff.

Then i got frustrated in the city..
Daggerfall is overwhelming.

So, all i did, was getting lost pwned and arrested all the times :)

My first day ever on Daggerfall... I spent the first half an hour trying to figure out how to hit the first rat because I couldn't look down. :P After that I took at least another 20-30 minutes navigating my way through the dungeon and out. I went straight to Daggerfall but when I arrived it was nightfall, and I didn't realise the gates would be shut AND some nasty spectre would kill me! So that pretty much sums it up. :D

Heh, those who say Daggerfall isn't realistic need to be shot.

I'm currently doing an Errand for the king, and I'm failing to find a procedurally generated woman in a procedurally generated town in a procedurally generated quest.

Fun fact. The towns aren't procedurally generated. Maybe they were when Bethesda created them, but everybody's installation of Daggerfall has the same towns in the same arrangement, and its NPCs (minus the random villagers and NPCs who only appear during quests) have the same names.

Morndas, 18th of First Seed
The Red Wolf, Wayrest

Last Middas, I arrived in Wayrest. My first order of business in Wayrest was to check in with the local Mages' guildhall. I spoke with Alabynak Greenwing, who had a contract from King Edwyre to take care of a mad wizard named Eloyra Gaerford, who was holed up in The Fortress of Wickford. I'd only ten days to take care of her; Edwyre's information was that she'd be moving on to another location by then. I accepted this important task, expended my energies training with my Air Bubble Cantrip, and head out for Wickford.

It took three days to reach the fortress. For the most part, the place looks fairly abandoned. My first turn took me to a flooded area, which I explored easily using my newly scribed Aquatic Adaptation spell... or at least, I thought it would be easy. In the room at the end of the submerged hallway were three Dreaugh! All three managed to get into the hallway with me, and though I kept them at bay with my Push spell, they threatened to overwhelm me. I attacked and retreated, intending to fall back to dryer areas.

However, I missed a step... and my perception suddenly became scrambled. It seems I had, in my panic, accidentally tripped some hidden reservoir of power within myself, escaping to the place between places. This was all well and good... but now I was falling through the featureless void!

I calmed myself, entering a meditative trance. I knew well that if I cast Slowfall, I wouldn't have enough power left to face the beasts that doubtless were searching the area I had departed realspace. So I set upon a different strategy. I began gathering into myself the energies of the Void, allowing myself to fall further, further... until I knew I had reached the point I desired. I willed myself back into realspace, emerging an unstoppable juggernaut!

I had to conserve my magic energies at this point. I needed them to continue exploring the watery area, and the rest needed to regain conventional magic energies would also release the esoteric power I had attained. So I slashed at them repeatedly with my trusty ebony dagger until it broke, and then continued with an elven wakazashi I had claimed from a fallen foe on an earlier adventure! When I was done, I had just barely enough power left to investigate the room at the end of the hall. It contained an elevator, which I figured I would examine later.

For the most part, the rest was infested with spiders. I figured I would eventually have to rest to avoid collapsing from simple fatigue. Luckily, I stumbled across Ms. Gaerford before the need for sleep became an issue. I actually did collapse on the way back to Wayrest.

Right now, I'm resting, having practiced my candle cantrip in my room at the Red Wolf. It's only 8:00, and the guildhall won't be open until 11:00. Then I'll claim my reward, get this magic eudoric I found on the body of Eloyra Gaerford identified, and move on to my next order of business: checking in with the local Temple of Akatosh.

Addendum: I've been promoted to Journeyman! The Eudoric was a Eudoric of Wildfire; now I can shoot at things pretty much at will. I was awarded a Silent Turquoise for killing Eloyra Gaerford; I'll have to see how effective it is against other mages.

Ok I finally played it somewhat and experienced one of the worst combos ever. I was just running thru daggerfall and killed a lady and then the guard arrested me and sent me to prison for like 500! days after that they dropped me outside of daggerfall at night!! So I heard the "Vengeaance!!" for the first time and boy did it freak me out, but to make matters worse I climbed the wall killed a spectre and broke into a house and the guard caught me again so I quit cause I didn't want to deal with the "Vengeaance!", and "Halt!!".

After hours of constant rolling and rerolling characters, I finally settled with my current character, Nilithok an Argonian. He sneaky and a bit stabby, but when there's some undead around, he happily swings a some blunted weapons to bash them back to the ground.

After waking up from the boat accident, I wandered around, a bit aimlessly, around the cave and got in trouble quite a bit when I ran into a wraith. That [censored] was tough to kill, damn! Died quite a few times, especially since there was also a damn imp right next to it. Thankfully I had my trusty ebony dagger the emperor gave me and was able to kill it...eventually. I got out of that damn cave too, for the first time. Now, I'm at the town just south of the dungeon, and now I'm trying to find a store that will allow me to dump all my loot.

I ran into one just wandering there. Had one pop up randomly on other characters after resting, but this one was right at the exit, along with the imp, a bat, and a rat. That fight was tough.

So far today, I completed all of Privateer's Hold(I don't know why people think its hard...), I traveled to uptown and went to the inn to meet the lady for the main quest, I went to daggerfall city and joined the Knights of the Dragon and I accepted a quest from them to kill a Nightblade at Gondyrick. I cleared out the entire dungeon and now I am on my way back.

This game is not as hard as people make it out to be, so far this game has been pretty easy. I'm playing as a premade class(Spellblade) if that has to do with anything. Also, the game has not crashed once on me.

I'm probably going to pull an all-nighter. This game is great.
