What did you do in Daggerfall today?

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:07 am

My local guild master gave me a relatively simple task to steal a vial of Elixir Vitae from an alchemist in a near by town. I arrived during the crisp morning, as the sun was still rising. There were a few early birds meandering around, likely heading to their various places of employment. I stopped one to ask him where "The Essential Herbs" store was located, and he pointed it out on my map. "Well, that was easy", I thought. I headed over to the shop, but it was locked. I tried to pick the lock, but I fumbled with the lock and jammed it. Not wanting to arouse the guards I loitered around for a few hours and waited for it to open.

Once the shop had opened for business, I slipped inside. "May I help you?" the shopkeep asked. Dismissing him with a wave of my hand, as I pretended to know what ingredients I was looking for with a faux anolyzing gaze at the shelves. I looked around and the Elixir Vitae caught my eye. I had to maneouver to the back of the shop, still pretending to be engrossed in the shelves of ingredients, and I quickly grabbed the vial and slipped it within the folds of my cloak.

Exclaiming in false anger, I stormed out of the shop, as if the ingredient I had been seeking was not in stock. I grinned as I stepped into the chilly morning air, and hopped on my horse, and made my way back to Crosstry. A pouch of two-hundred or so gold coins was my prize, and I was happy with it, for such a simple job. My gold pouch was getting heavy, and I was considering making a trip to the local bank. The information given to be by a noble also lay at the back of my mind. Some time, I'd have to follow her information. I think I'll buy some armour, first.

I went to the bank in Daggerfall and deposited the rest of my gold, leaving around 12000 coins in the bank. I then left on my horse to Crosstry, where I completed a few jobs for Dunyrick, (my boss). After a few jobs I had around 1000 coins and decided to leave Daggerfall and I caught a ship to the province of Gavaudon. I mainly wanted to get away from the large province of Daggerfall and find a smaller place to settle for a while. Now, I had to find a Thieves' guild HQ in Gavaudon. I might look in the capital city of the province and try to find a branch in a smaller town later. With most of my coin in the Daggerfall bank system, I had little here and would have to be shrewd to survive. Of course, that wouldn't be hard for me, anyway.

After finally getting the game to work, I went through the character creation several times trying to find the right combination of skills that would satisfy me, and let me start with an Ebony Dagger. Since I had it in my head to play as a magic-thief, this weapon would come in handy and last a long time. I settled on a rather ridiculous character, with many great advantages and few disadvantages - which unfortunately will make leveling rather slow. Oh well!

I went through every room of the Privateer's Hold, since I had never actually done that before in the past - I usually raced for the exit as fast as possible (usually because the noises freaked me out). First thing I did was head to a graveyard and rob a couple tombs, didn't find anything worthwhile though, so I camped around the graveyard for several days, waiting to be jumped by other foolish graverobbers who would ultimately meet their end.

After collecting a nice assortment of goodies and making a quick trip back to town, I decided to travel around a bit and ran across a map to a place called The Tower of Nherg. Never heard of it, and again, dungeon crawling was something I rarely did in the past - especially the really big one's. Getting lost in this place was pretty easy, but thankfully I managed to find my way out multiple times to drop off some well earned loot at my cart and then jump back into the fray. A lot of skeletons, bats and rats were roaming around and a few particularly nasty critters, one of which I think was a Lich, but for some reason, as soon as he cast a spell, he blew up and died in front of me. Lucky me. Another part in this place had 4 loot piles sitting in the middle of a room and as soon as I walked in, 8 secret doors opened, each holding a skeleton. One at a time isn't to bad, but they hit hard, so I was dancing around the room fending them off and just barely made it out alive. The loot wasn't really worth it either. =/

After wandering around this place for a good hour or two, I got bored and made my way back out. Not sure what I was supposed to run into there, but there was a lot of areas I didn't touch, so maybe I'll head back again later. After joining the mages guild and buying a few needed spells, I decided to quit for the day. I'll have to pickup the adventure tomorrow.

I grew weary of the desert province I had traveled to, the cities were irritating to navigate, and I wasn't a fan of the heat. I traveled back to Daggerfall, and went back to Crosstry, who gave me another job to steal some Elixir Vitae. This time, it was harder as the Vitae was behind the shopkeeper's desk. I pointed to an object on a shelf behind him, and when he turned to get it I knocked him in the back of the head with my elbow, sending him crashing to the ground. I hastily grabbed the vial and left cooly, returning for a rather nice size pouch of coins. My coin pouch was getting heavy, and I had to return to Daggerfall to deposit my coins, leaving 14,000 coins in my account. After purchasing some armour and robes, I hadn't needed to buy anything else.

I have all this money and nothing to spend it on, so I figured I'd just keep saving it. I haven't left the cities but I think I am able at combat, I've killed my share of loot guardians, and just the other day I slew a werewolf in the streets of Crosstry as I was on my way to the guild HQ.

Anyway, time to collect a new job from my boss.

I woke up after the storm, most of my equipment was missing. I had only my clothes which was a tad wet along with a red ruby the emperor gave, and my trusty spellbok. Well it was trustworthy, most of the pages was ripped out or unreadable, so i got rid of them too. I looked around, i was in a cave. The sounds of minor beasts was to be heard, it sent a echo trough the corridors. It was downright creepy.
I somehow managed to get out alive from that cursed place, and i so i walked to the nearest place of civilasation i could find in the land of snow.
After being that i walked aimless around for a few days, then one of the days a message sneaked up my back. He handed me a note and then was gone like with the wind.
So i read the note: "ok, ok, ok, what thats 1 month away!" and thus got on my way towards Holham, what a dull city.
I met a certain royal, and a agent of the empire and was informed of the situation. A certain king died and become a wrath out of the lust for vengance, and it was currently my job to figur out who he wanted it on. Oh joy.
I went to the bank to deposite a bit more to my account that day, and the banker asked me if i wanted to save her daughter. "Why not?" i said, and went to a cursed tower overfilled with Scorpions and thief's. I managed to slay several of the beasts, but i in luck avoided most. After quite the amount of times almost getting myself killed i managed to find an Elven Flail along with the daugther of the banker.
So i went back, i had nothing better to do after all. I got the reward, and the next thing she asked me was "are you afraid of blood?". I of course said the truth "Why would i? I was even stained in blood while saving your daughter", and she then proposed a hit job. I accepted, but the guy is creepy good at hiding, most locals points at the place he used to live. I better find him, it would be a waist of a good day if i did not.

Hello,
in honor of Daggerfall being released for free, I started new character, custom dark elf http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Daggerfall/fall_003.png. 3xInt in spellpoints, lower magic ability in daylight, forbidden material silver.
For roleplaying purposes (my main motivation for adventuring was to gain knowledge), I did not accept ebony dagger as a reward from emperor, but chose book instead. I cleared Privateers Hold, mostly relying on Shock and steel http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Daggerfall/fall_010.png, which I took from body of some rogue who interrupted my rest.
I left http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Daggerfall/fall_011.png reasonably equipped, and traveled to Gothway Garden.
Yay! This game really never gets old :)

After waking up from the boat accident, I wandered around, a bit aimlessly, around the cave and got in trouble quite a bit when I ran into a wraith.

You gotta love random spawns in the starter dungeon. In Arena I was once ambushed by human wizards in the starting dungeon, but the near-death experience was well worth it because one of the random treasure piles had an Ebony Longsword in it. :D

Today I created a Dark elf warrior VictorSavage.

After getting my butt handed to me by a rat, I came back and 2 shotted the jerk. I go up the stairs and run into a nasty imp. Nearly kills me but i kill it. I go through the rest of the dungeon and level up to 3 and exit.

My story begins here.

He'd better love it too since there's going to be plenty of "vengeance" in his journeys. :P

Yup.

So far I'm really enjoying it. I honestly thought i would hate it. I'm not a huge RPG player, I grew up on modern day RPGs and actually liked Oblivion.

Anyways level 7 get. Game isn't as hard as I thought. the difficulty remains the same...or so I thought when I ran into a lich that took me down nearly in 1 hit. Dungeons aren't as bad as i thought.

I found a khajiit suit!
It is like a cat suit, but much cooler.

I was as entertained as when I found a Fat Lute in Morrowind.

I also wandered around the city of Daggerfall, but it did not interest me all that much. It took me a while to realize that the lady I had to meet was at an inn in a pub. Which doesn't make a lot of sense. First I went to almost every single inn in the city of Daggerfall before I figured it out.

I'm thinking I should probably get a wagon, eh? I mean, I don't need to be carrying this formal brasserie around with me EVERYWHERE, do I?

I would recommend get a wagon. Getting more then one wagon lead to a glitch. There are ALOT of thing ya would get loot from in ya adventure and those golds ya carry, they are weighed as well, just let ya know.

Tirdas, 26th of First Seed
Order of the Hour, Wayrest

I just got promoted to Initiate of the Akatosh Chantry! It seems they were pleased by my performance on this last mission.

On the tenth of First Seed, I was sent by Morgyrrya Gaerwing to find Dunyrick Buckingston, who'd disappeared on an archaeological dig in Woodwing's Hold, an underground structure approximately three days travel from Wayrest. When I got there, I decided that his disappearance was no surprise. Indeed, I would be more surprised to find him alive. The place was inhabited primarily by orcs, with a few human renegades taking up residence with them.

The journey was made more difficult by a case of Witches Pox I'd contracted at some point; I'm not sure when. My will and personality were sapped, but I figured it wasn't a problem; I know the basics for curing diseases. I actually spent several days camping out down there, attempting to cure myself. It takes nearly all my power to cast a simple curing spell, and to no avail. At first I figured my skills simply were not up to the task, so I finally decided to continue on, diseased as I was.

Actually, it was simply a really tough case. I discovered a curing potion somewhere in the dungeon, and quaffed it immediately, but even the potion couldn't cure me! Fortunately, I found Mr. Buckingston, who was so wrapped up in his work he didn't even notice me coming... or the passage of time for that matter. When a priest of Akatosh, the Time Dragon, manages to lose track of time, you KNOW he's absent minded.

He accompanied me back to Wayrest. I stopped at Singing Prophet of Akatosh to get cured of Witches Pox on the way. Heh, speaking of absent mindedness, I have to curse myself for constantly forgetting to set a recall point. Were I to cast it now, I'd end up all the way over in Gothway Garden... hardly the ideal situation.

At any rate, it's time to head over to the palace. It's time to pick up on the Emperor's mission. No doubt she'll want a favor in exchange for her information. Hopefully it won't be *too* nasty.

Turdas, 5th of Rain's Hand
The Red Wolf, Wayrest

Princess Morgiah's mission for me was about as nasty as it gets. She sent me off to Scourg Barrow in the Wrothgarian Mountains, the throne of the King of Worms--some nasty dealings to be sure, if the rumors about that guy are correct. And the dealings she has with him are nasty in themselves. I had a peek at the note she sent me with (it wasn't sealed), and from what I gather she's selling off her firstborn in exchange for the throne of Firsthold. This isn't the sort of thing I would choose to involve myself with, but I need that information. So I went... but THIS time I remembered to set a recall point in front of the palace.

It certainly came in handy. Scourg Barrow was about as deadly a place as I've ever seen. Entry was achieved by jumping into a secret passage concealed by a sarcophogus, and the first room I came to had zombies... truly deadly creatures for one of my skill. I just ran from them. Fortunately, they were easy to evade, and the rest of the area I explored contained bats, and a skeleton. Oh, the throne room of the Necromancers contained some deadly creatures to be sure: an ancient lich and a vampire ancient. But being retainers of the King of Worms himself, they held off until his curiosity about me was satisfied.

He agreed to her terms, and I got the hell out of there. Then she gave me the information I needed. It seems the Emperor's Letter reached Queen Abu-ki, but was stolen by the Thieves Guild, who then sold it to Gortwog, leader of the Orcs of Orsinium. She recommended I speak with Mynisera, Dowager Queen of Daggerfall (King Gothyrd's mother, and the late King Lysandus' wife... probably the intended recipient of the letter). This I will do, once I get back to Daggerfall.

But first, I'll be heading over to the Mages' Guild for more work, now.

I just can't wait to see someone post about a certain vampire that love to spawn in the dungeon. :chaos:

So THAT'S what killed me! That green-hooded fellow? I had to start a new game due to that bastard. :stare:

It's a fun game, so far, but I gotta change the keys to WASD format.

Today, I cleared out an entire dungeon filled full of giants, orcs, sabertooth tigers, rats and I killed the Orc Warlord for a quest from the Knights of Dragon. I have never seen a dungeon that big in a game. I was in there for hours. After I did all that, I went back to daggerfall city and sold my stuff at the general store, then I went and turned in my quest for the knights. Now im on another quest where I have to figure out who started spreading rumors about gearsmith, the knight quest giver. This might take awhile......

today I started my new character my old one's skills where all wack. well afther adrain got out of privateers hold he headed to daggerfall only to arive at night to hear vengence. then he climbed the walls and enterered the nearest inn. well afther resting the next day adrian went to find some work and he found a guy who wanted a book from a castle I thought that shouldn't be too hard....boy was I wrong 1000 bats later I found the hidden door that I had ran past about a 1000 times and explored every last part of the place before I found it. afther getting back adrian gave the book to the guy and thought to himself I'm never doing that again for so book. so he left and went to the nearest store to sell all of his newest stuff he picked up. afther that he asked the guy for work only to have him tell him that he knows someone that needs his help so adrian went there it turned out it was an orc shaman named grogrub or something. so 1000 bats later adrian found the exit and headed to daggerfall for he had some unfinished buisness. afther getting there and heading to where grogrub was he found he wasn't there so he headed to the merchant. he said he had no beef with me and told me to go find grogrub in another town so off adrian went to the other town asked about grogrub found him and this time put him down for good. satified he finally desided that he hates orcs a lot. and left for daggerfall

Got myself into my first wild goose chase. So I joined up with the Order of Arkay (really? yeah I know!) and sent me off to find some heretic. But, before that I was sent to another member of the order, who told me to talk to the heretic's ex-lover. I talk to her, and she tells me that I've got the wrong person, yet the people who give me an answer in town keeps saying that her lover went mad, go figure. So, I try to talk to her again, nothing. I go back to talk to the order member, nothing. I find the heretic, nothing useful.

So lost :brokencomputer:

I mostly messed around (something I tend to do with this kind of game). Walked over the border from one territory to another just to see how the game handles it (it just does - the transition is seamless), then walked to the northernmost edge of the map to see how it handles that as well. Turns out Daggerfall has invisible walls, Oblivion-style (only without the message telling you why you suddenly can't go any further).

I made my character spent 2 hours trying to get out of the privates hold (I died 10+ times)
Once out I travel to some town and got caught stealing something, spent 9 days in jail, was released and traveled to Daggerfall. I got there at time and attempted to climb the wall I fell, tried again I fell, I kept trying and eventually it turned to morning.

After spending the morning installing in gleeful anticipation, I finally got to play and immediately got owned by a rat I couldn't see several times before I finally realized you can crouch.

The game got stuck on player death sequences that wouldn't end and forced me to restart many, many times.

When I finally killed the rat, I grabbed the nearby loot and tried to equip it, only to accidentally take off my clothes, which then proceeded to disappear from the game. After searching everywhere for them, I finally resigned myself to a naked dungeon crawl and dealt with jerky stuttering and awkward controls that I hadn't gotten the hang of yet.

Overwhelmed by frustration with the awkwardness of trying to play a game under these conditions, I was about ready to give up on Daggerfall for the day and try again tomorrow, but then realized you could reconfigure the controls to be intuitive and turn off head bobbing.

Once I did that, suddenly everything felt so familiar and right , and I really got into it. I fought my way out of the dungeon with a newfound excitement and hope that Daggerfall would truly be as great as its nostalgic fans proclaim. I was relieved to have escaped the dungeon and exhilarated by the prospect of finally seeing the surface of this legendary game, only to be entirely paralyzed by completely debilitating stuttering the moment I reached daylight. Tonight Tarous joined the Temple of Kynareth and quested to a dungeon which is huge, but I still remember the way back (I wished they show the door or a marker for it on the dungeon map). Oh and I still haven't met the void even though I got a skeleton to. :P
