Vampire Ancients are extremely deadly, unless you have the ability to Resist Shock, either by spell or potion. That's where the bulk of their damage comes from. Of course, there's also the secondary paralysis effect, which is also nasty. So everybody should join a temple, get to where they can buy potions, and make sure to keep a small supply of Resist Shock potions once they've reached the point where they're encountering Vampire Ancients.

Anyway, here's tonights last record:

Sundas, 15th of Rain's Hand
Penitentiary of Alabywyr, Wayrest

That's it. I give up. Not only am I not able to find what I'm seeking, I'm pretty sure I've managed to get lost... a first for me.

It all began ten days ago, on the Fifth of Rain's Hand. Alabynak Greenwing had another task for me: find a bit of werewolf blood for one of the students at the Guildhall in Wayrest. It seemed a simple enough task. The place was a bit scary at first, infested with spiders as it was (at this point, it's pretty well empty of any living thing save myself), but I have been growing in power, and the spiders, though troublesome, could be dealt with. The hardest part was actually finding the blood.

I followed the left wall all the way around until I'd reached my starting point once again. Then I followed it again... taking a passage I hadn't yet drawn on my map, following that left wall twice, exploring more uncharted passages. I even voidwalked into passasges otherwise inaccessible due to closed gates and, in one case, a closed grate at the top of a tall shaft. The place had obviously not been used in years, and many of the mechanisms had failed years ago.

Finally, I took down a passage I wasn't sure I'd explored from a particular angle without dropping a way marker, figuring I'd recognize the spot when I returned to it. Maybe I'm just getting tired of this, but every passageway is starting to look the same to me. If I didn't have a recall point set in Wayrest, I just might be in trouble. As it is, I'm giving up on finding the blood. So far as I can tell, the stuff just plain isn't here. Alabynak must've gotten a bogus tip.

So once I've written this last line, I'll be recalling out of here, empty handed.

(OOC: I went ahead and enabled cheat mode briefly, to use the bracket cheat and see where the blood actually was. I'll be keeping to the journel's recorded results, but I do this for learning. I can't believe it. You know that shaft I referred to, with the only way I could see of reaching it being voidwalking past the closed grate (the only control I know of being on the other side)? It was in there. I missed a secret door, and the blood was in there. I don't remember ever seeing a secret door in that spot. I'll really have to keep my eyes open next time I visit another dungeon with a similar section: Two rooms, one larger, one smaller, The larger room has a closet hidden by a secret door (apparently) and a pit in the middle, covered with a grate, with a chain that casts slowfall hanging over it. The smaller room has a wheel that opens and closes the grate, and a lever I've never figured out exactly what it does. That information found, cheat mode has been disabled. I will still be recalling to Wayrest empty handed.)

Grimmr Altaborg, the insane Nord, stumbled about, drunk on the lily-wine of Dibella. He was fortunate to have gotten his clothing and armor on before he was kicked out of the "religious ceremony" which he mistook for a free night at a brothel. The snow fell upon his frosty body, granting him a soft white blanket upon his shoulders and head. To Grimmr, this was relatively warm weather, and he was content to don a cloak and lay down in a dark alleyway between two nondescript houses.

"Halt!"

He leapt to his feet, claymore in hand, and beheld a guard prodding him with a spiked mace.

"Halt!" shouted the guard, kicking him in the legs. "Vagrancy is illegal!"

Grimmr snorted and snarled, bringing his claymore up to his shoulders. "I am not aware of your laws, nor do I care for them."

The guard was taken aback by the Nord's defiance. He had never seen such a tall, strong, well-armed and fearsome person before. If this brute had not spoken the Dragon's tongue, he might as well have been a giant. "You are under arrest! You are guilty until proven innocent! You are a subject of the Emperor!"

Grimmr showed his teeth and narrowed his eyes. "Let me ask you a question, civilized man... do you know what it is like to see your own legs and intestines scattered in the snow?"

The guard raised his mace, but his shaking knees knew fear in that moment. He could do little else other than stammer, "Halt! Halt!"

Thusly, Grimmr educated him in what it was like to see his own legs and stomach scattered in the snow. He found the guard to be carrying multiple suits of leather and chainmail in his pack. Perhaps he would have stood more of a chance if he had actually been wearing his armor, but then again, against a Nord's fury, perhaps not. No sooner had Grimmr filched a few gold coins and a few medicinal herbs than more guards appeared from the foggy night.

"Halt! Halt! Halt!" they shouted, carefully walking toward the Nord, hoping that their superior numbers could overwhelm him.

Grimmr simply ran at one and punched him in the face. The guard's vision went very hazy, and he almost saw the blood rushing into his eyes. He felt as if he was wavering back and forth, his head tilting diagonally up-left and down-right repeatedly, never quite finding the center. Another punch sent him head-first into the snow, although his head remained upright. The other guards were quickly cleaved and hewn by the Nord's claymore.

Even as more guards could be heard shouting "Halt!" in the distance, Grimmr took his time in rifling through the guards' belongings. They seemed to have enough Mithril, Ebony and Orcish pieces of armor between them to make a full set, not to mention an abundance of shields, axes, daggers, bows and other random weapons. Clearly, the Emperor had become too comfortable and fat with taxes to have any sensible logistics for the guards. Clearly, the nobles of the Empire were too busy filling their coffers with the fat of the land to pay attention to how the guards were trained. Clearly, the guards were too content with their gang-like practices to be capable of harrassing anyone stronger than a common peasant. Indeed, they were clearly too stupid to gird themselves with the greatest arms and armor that the Dragon-Emperor could ever afford.

The next day, after some hard negotiation with the local armorsmith, Grimmr walked out with a bank note for a rather large sum of gold - enough to buy a house. He was not one to settle down, however, and decided to test the limits of this decadent, civilized city. He walked up to a woman and tapped her on the shoulder, asking her the whereabouts of the Fighter's Guild. He repeatedly shouted and screamed at her until she finally gave in and marked it on his map - by that time, she was in tears and pleading to be left alone. In order to thank her, he removed her head from her shoulders, wiped her blood across his face as a sort of war paint, and waited eagerly for the guards, with all their valuable treasures...

((I didn't check to see what actually happens when you do vagrancy in Daggerfall, but I remember a lot of other details))

I'm convinced the Mages guild is trying to kill me......

Elven mage, just got off the boat, clawed my way through Privateer's hold, headed to Eastwick and joined up with the mages guild. Eagerly anticipating my novice task, the quest giver tells me that I must confront a powerful mage. Eagerly hacking my way through the same type of mobs that were in Privateer's hold, I confronted said "powerful" mage and dispatched him without trouble.

Obviously convinced I must be really experienced, they handed me my new task. Kill a summoned creature in some ruins. After the mage, it sounded easy enough until I arrived to the sounds of howling. Cheerfully not noticing the full moon, I strut confidently into the dungeon only to find Werewolves, scorpions and even a Vampire. Umm...WTF!!! (checking character sheet to see that number 3 by my level.) Dodging the vampire, killing a few werewolves (thankfully High Elf and didn't catch anything) found my target and dispatched it.

I'm definately going to have strong words for that mage representative.....this wasn't worth 233 gold......

Went to a house in the desert, and found a naked chick on her bed.
Found loads of them later too.
Damn, Bethesda's full of horny bastards! :goodjob:

Why can't we have that in OB??
That would be much nicer. :D

Heaven forbid!

As an update to my post above: The cheeky b*stard didn't promote me and went so far as to send me back to the same ruins! Well, at least this time it was in a different part full of live bodies and not nasstty undeadses and dogses :P. There better be a promotion out of this one or I swear I'm stringing him up :)

You can have that in Oblivion. You just gotta figure out what mods to downgrab. hehehe

I rented a room in some stupid tavern to wait for my junk to repair across the street. The guy running the place said something along the lines of "you and I both know the room is only worth 5 gp so that's what I'm gonna pay, take it or leave it." It really sounded like he wanted to pay me to sleep there. After sleeping I woke up in a different room. I guess I'm a sleep walker!

Hehe on the mods.

No need to find a room or bed. After getting the room simply rest right in front of the innkeeper - you'll wake up in the room you paid for.

They are completely related. Did you even watch the introduction video with the Emperor? That explains the story. Spectral army haunting his old kingdom crying out for revenge? Yeah, it's related.

I headed to the closest town after leaving Privateer's Hold. Became a member of the Knights and had my first quest - kill an orc warlord. I traveled to the dungeon and got rid of the orc warlord....which wasn't easy for my level 1 nord. I went back, got my reward (a measly armour piece), and accepted my second quest - kill another orc warlord in a different area.

Though first I sold all my accumulated loot, bought some good armour, a wagon (which I don't know how to 'fill up with stuff') and a horse.

This time I spent 1 hour 15 minutes in the dungeon. In fact I was close to giving up but dammit I had cleared most of it. Then I entered this room which had a giant scorpion and the orc warlord. Killed them both, got me some great loot.

I'm now finding it hard to escape this maze, might have to resort to using a cheat, because I'm finding it impossible. And next time, I'm buying a mark and recall spell if there's one (from where can I buy it?). I've got 28 spell points myself.

And here's my Nord, Xeuix. I think he looks pretty bad ass myself!

Okay, to fill up a wagon you need to click on the wagon option in your inventory. It will REALLY help in dungeons.

Also, to buy spells, you need to be a member of the mage's guild. Unfortunately with 22 spell points casting recall would be near impossible.

The best way to get recall would actually be seeing the spellmaker and creating a 'Teleport' spell. It's cheaper than the one the spell maker sells. I also recommend you make a 1pt+1(2 lvl) open spell to open those pesky locked doors inside of towns.

Nice nord, btw. Glad to see all these newcomers to the game having fun!

After my bad experiences with the vengeful ghost at Daggerfall I decided to go to a rather random place. Then to my surprise I got a letter requesting a meeting. I met this person briefly and I finally found out what the ghost was about (I would probably of understood if I remember to fix it up so the movies at the start of the game played for me beforehand :() and I was told to go to the "castle"... Well I've no clue on the whereabouts of that but I plan to go explore another city and try find my way into a guild.

I strolled my Redguard Warrior into Daggerfall and joined the Fighter's Guild, shortly thereafter I was tasked with killing a loupe -- your ordinary werewolf, werebear, werebeast, whatever.-- I had fifteen days to kill it, upon entering the dungeon it was rumored to reside it, I found a plethora of werewolves, none of which seemed to be the one I needed to kill. After several hours, and a perilous journey, Raddoc had not gotten his beloved 'quest complete' message.

Thanks. I believe it may be because I bought a 'cart' instead of a wagon, since I was pressing 'wagon' but nothing was happening.

I'll try and find a spellmaker then, those dungeons are pretty pesky!

Thank you, though I've had DF for quite a while now, but after the news of DaggerXL, and the recent free download of DF, I've been playing the game again. So much fun :)

One last thing - are all quests which are about killing an enemy all based in dungeons or homes? Homes are OK, since I can clear the beast in a minute or two, but dungeons take me a good whole hour to just find the enemy I'm after.

Well I made a new character, Galerion, which is a female nordic warrior. She is level 3 and is decked out in almost completely in elven armor. I joined the fighter's guild and was sent to kill a werewolf at a ruined farm, the dungeon was a complete labyrinth and I ended up contracting the PLAGUE and had to leave to get cured and then went back to kill the werewolf.

Ribissi the khajiit was short on gold and decided that it would be a good idea to do some Fighter's work. She took a long walk across the city of Daggerfall to the the guild and asked for a contract. As it turns out, some farmers had a werewolf problem. This seemed simple enough, for nothing is as fierce as Khajiit. Certainly not any mangy half-dog that can't even care for its fur. After a fast trip (for what is swifter than Khajiit?) she arrived at the dungeon.

Ribissi readied her mithril longsword and entered the darkness. Easily maneuvering through the labyrinth, and dispatching the bats and skeletons that tried to stop her, she was relaxing and occasionally letting her guard down. In one of these short openings a skeleton landed a heavy hit. in that moment, Sithis unleashed his fury and pulled the great Khajiit into his void. Luckily Ribissi was a greater Khajiit than Sithis had anticipated, and happened to be on good terms with Alkosh who pulled her about a minute before the skeleton encounter. She didn't let her guard down again.

As Ribissi descended further into the maze of cobbled stone and darkness and soon began to hear the low snarls of her target. She slowly opened the next door and saw her mark, who was completely unaware of her presence. "Stupid brute can't even use its nose properly" Ribissi thought to herself. She slowly crept up behind it and dispatched it with one swift blow of her blade.

Her work done, but still without a real challenge, Ribissi suddenly heard the low moan of the undead. "Good. Something to truly test Ribissi's blade on" she thought. Ribissi followed the sounds down a hall and through two rooms, entering a large room with about seven doors in it.

She walked into the middle of the large room when, suddenly, three of the doors flung open and the Khajiit was under attack by two Ancient Liches and and zombie! Using all the techniques taught to her by her clan mother she dodged spells and dispatched the zombie in two blows and one of the liches in another seven. The second lich however did not take kindly to being ignored and landed and heavy blow on the occupied Khajiit's back. Utterly enraged and with adrenaline pumping through her, Ribissi turned and unleashed a flurry of blows upon the remaining lich until it collapsed. Their trap had had been good, but would have been much more effective if planned by Khajiit.

Escaping the labyrinth was simple enough for a Khajiit of Ribissi's skill. Due to her injuries she stopped to lick her wounds before heading back to Daggerfall. When she made it back to the guild she was paid the reasonable amount of 317 gold coins. It would do for a short time. Now to find a skooma vendor ...
