What did you do in Daggerfall today

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:29 am

Going to have to agree with the 3D vs. 2D map statement here. Be it Morrowind, Oblivion, or Fallout 3, there is nothing worse than a blip on your map denoting a door, getting there on the wrong floor, and staring at a wall...

At any rate, I figured I'd post here since I just booted up Daggerfall again after quite some time. Made myself a brand new character, an argonian warrior-assassin hybrid with some spells thrown in there for good measure. Mugged a bunch of thieves and archers on her way out of Privateer's Hold and went to the closest town to sell off her loot. After resting in a local tavern, she decided to look around for some work and was directed to a shopkeeper in town. Little did she know the job detailed smuggling some sensitive property to a neighboring city, but not caring all too much of the law and willing to do anything for some gold, she took it anyway. Once in the appropriate location, she asked the townies about a certain residence, the place where she was to meet her employer's contact. However, she received a letter before she could actually make her way there, warning her about an ambush. Equally suspicious of the letter and its writer, she decided to check out the place anyways, although not without a longsword drawn.

Problems arose when she found the place to be locked. Despite her skill in lockpicking, she failed to unlock the door and, in her frustration, resorted to bashing it down. This, of course, attracted the attention of the town guards. Knowing that if she was caught with the "sensitive property" in her possession, she had no choice but the slay the guardsmen hounding her, since retreat was certainly not an option, being cornered in the middle of town. After that was taken care of, she ducked into the house and searched for the contact, only to find that the letter hadn't been a lie. A heavily-armored mook was there to take the Indulcet from her, but he quickly met the business end of her sword. The fool had tried to threaten her! She who just took down three guards outside! After taking whatever seemed valuable off of his corpse, she left the house and began her escape, carefully avoiding any additional guards that may have been on the lookout for her. Thankfully, there was no need to scale any walls, as this particular settlement did not have any. Once out in the wilderness, she reread the letter and made her way to yet another town, being careful to avoid any unwanted attention from nosy peasants. Fortunately, nobody seemed to know about her exploits yet, so she could utilize the relative comfort of inns during her travels.

Once at her destination, she noted the city walls. Hoping that she wouldn't have to climb over them, she asked around for the White Gnome, a tavern that the letter-writer had requested she visit them at. Apparently, not even the residents of this city knew where it was, as she had to ask several people before she got a definitive answer! After trekking through the streets and alleyways, she finally found the tavern and let out a sigh of relief, knowing that the troublesome Indulcet would soon be off her hands and she would receive her promised pay. After sifting through the tavern-goers, she met the letter-writer, a young lady in green, quite comely by human standards. Unfortunately, the treacherous wench merely confiscated the Indulcet and made a snarky remark about how she "save me the trouble of being caught up in the middle of this mess". What!? As if! My argonian was sorely tempted to run her through right then and there, but reason stayed her hand. If she slew this pathetic ape now, she would almost certainly have to contend with the guards on her way out of the city. Reluctantly, she left without saying a word, rage concealed by her "alien" features. Taking a mental note of the merchant who had sent her on this waste of time, his contact, and the woman who had dared not pay her for her services, she quickly left the city behind, hoofing it to a neighboring province. While no one knew of her deeds yet, it was certain that they would be noticed sooner or later, and she had no intentions of sticking around when that happened. The journey took her only a scant few days, as her flight was fueled by an as if yet unquenched thirst for revenge, and of course, the paranoia that ensues when one knows that they may potentially be hunted down. Once satisfied that she had made sufficient progress, she settled down into an inn, too tired to care if anybody was suspicious of her.

And that is where the story ends for today. Forgive me, I write and then I can't stop. :slap:

Although, this is what I happen to love about Daggerfall. You get your random quests and they may end up like the hundreds of other times you did it, or it might just surprise you and do something different. Nevermind the fact that there's an infinite amount of them! I kind of miss it when I'm playing any other game with a set amount of things to do...

Its been awhile since I post here. Lets see;

Another job was given to the Argonian from the quest giver of the Fighter Guilds. He have sources that there is a dragon guarding a treasure in a nearby ruin. He said to the Argonain that if she do not get there in x days, the dragon would be quickly slay by a knight, as the common fantasy cliches follow. Thinking the treasure the dragon might be guarding, the Argonian got to the ruin in no time.

It wasn't long before she got to the dragon nest within the first ten minutes of exploring the ruin. The dragon and its hatchlings was no match for the Argonian's combat skill. The treasure she found beside the dragon's corpse was nearly 12,000 drakes! She immediately got the loot and hurry toward the exit. Right then a man was blocking her path out. He was a knight. He started saying that the dragon was his to slain and in process of trying to kill the Argonian just because she was there first. Seeing as an annoyance and waste of time, the Argonian just smile and casted Recall , disappearing, leaving the knight angry.

Back at the Fighter Guilds, the quest giver was very interested of how the quest went when the Argonain came to report the aftermath. Days past by and stories of how the Fighter Guild beat the Knights into killing the dragon first spread like wild fire.

Something weird happened today.

I went to Chesterwark, where I had an accounting with one of the royal family. It was 2.43, so way before the palace opens it's gates. I decided to check on some houses and found an open shop. But there was no shopkepper inside. I decided to browse a bit and found a horse, a cart and some nice clothing items (including an undercoat). Makes me pretty happy, actually. It's my first horse and the cart is a nice advantage.

After another assassination of a member of the royal family, half of Daggerfall is after me. Every building I enter has an instant spawn of 2-4 city guards. Even the Dark Brotherhood is threatened by them.

I decided to help out my fellow mage, the man was after an enchanted shirt made by a famous magician. He told me there were two places to find hints on where it is, a woman in one dungeon and a book reference in another.
I decided the woman would be more helpful to me so I went to her first. I struggled for hours to find my way through, My Sandals of Protection was the only reason I survived each of the Ancient Liches I encountered, but the spell still had to be rebuffed after every encounter. My Gem of healing finally gave way outside the library the lady was inside of.

I went in and talked to her. She told me she had no idea where to find the shirt, but if I could be a dear and pop over to the nearest town for some ingredients, she would be very appreciative.
Not wanting to fight my way back into this dungeon again I cast my recall spell and set my anchor.
Then I backtracked back to the exit, avoiding another lich on the way and made my way to the town.

Once there the shopkeeper refused to give me the full list of ingredients and had some very unsavoury things to say about my dungeon-dwelling friend. So, With a heavy heart I teleported back to her to give her some Saint's hair and the bad news. She was not impressed, and ranted and raved but finally agreed to teleport me to the other dungeon where the book reference was.
Her aim was immaculate, I tripped over the book as soon as I arrived and had a gentle stroll through a dungeon occupied only with rats, scorpions and the occasional vampire.

This book gave me directions to a former abbey of some kind. I went there to discover another sprawling dungeon, filled once again with Liches.
After several hours romping through this one I finally found, lying on the middle of a corridor, the magical shirt. I quickly collected it, teleported out and made haste back to my fellow magician, hoping for nothing but praise.

Upon turning up, he looked at me in surprise, he had no idea who I was or what I was doing there, having departed around a month ago!

After jogging his memory he thanked me but told me he no longer needs the shirt, having figured out the magical problem he was dealing with, but I could feel free to keep it.
It was a shirt of water walking
I felt like punching him.

And I'm back. Booted up the DF a good while ago and loaded from where I left off.

So, here I am sitting in Anticlere, glaring at the letter that I had just received from Lady Brisienna. What, you want me to go back to Daggerfall? Why couldn't you have sent me the letter while I was still in the area? I went back anyways, not having any other active quests at the time and not wanting to take a reputation hit from not answering the letter. After that, I hightailed it back to Anticlere and into a shady tavern, talking to one of the patrons there. He said something about wanting to off another person, but the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't do it. Always eager for money, I, of course, accepted, and went into the smaller establishment nearby. Why there are two taverns sitting right next to each other in the middle of nowhere, I have no idea as to the answer, but I'm not about to question the world building right this minute. Once running my target through, I ran back to my employer, got my pay, and moved onwards into another province; one with a clime more accommodating to my argonian character.

Once here, I settled into a small town and talked to a local barkeep. Apparently, his fiancee or something was kidnapped by the Thieves Guild and he wanted me to rescue her, preferably without having to pay the ransom. Hmm, okay, I said. So, I go over to meet the guy who I was supposed to pay, refused, took out his lackey, and got a map leading me to... a-yep, a dungeon. Excellent. Unfortunately, since the game knows what dungeons I absolutely abhor and which ones I don't, it naturally assembles the ones I hate. This one was made up almost entirely of those open rooms going off in four directions and span several floors. Of course, I didn't know this until I started fighting. Bats and rats? This will be easy... no... wrong! Suddenly, five! skeleton warriors scream all at the same time, sounding like they were standing right next to me. At level 3, skeletons are a nightmare... especially if you don't use blunt weapons... so, cue spinning around frantically in circles, swinging my weapon at nothing. Why do you do this to me!? Why the inconsistent monster wailing!? Send me into cardiac arrest already!

Needless to say, I was much relieved when I found long, earthy-brown corridors filled with nothing but oversized rodents. It was here that I discovered that I had to open up a trapdoor, climb down, and rescue the poor woman. You know, after searching high and low everywhere else for her. Through skeletons. Underwater. And up and down grand staircases. How does all of this fit underground, dammit!? I finally throw the switch, climb (read: fall) down the hole, kill my last rat, and talk to her, taking her with me. From here, since I hadn't bothered to pick up Recall yet, I had to climb the walls out of there and walk all the way back to the entrance. Atleast everything was already dead, thank goodness. After all of that, I go back to my questgiver and return his fiancee, only to get a measly 24 gold out of the ordeal. Ugh.

I save my progress and go to walk out the door, when boom! Daggerfall encounters an error and closes. Atleast this time it had the decency to wait until after I saved.

Figure I bring this back now that Daggerfall is free you have quite a few new guys who'd like to share their tales.

Went to a some dungeon in the Daggerfall area (Can't remember the name, maybe I'll jot it down when I boot up the game later) that was crawling with werewolves. Absolutely a blast. Played without the music, I nearly pissed myself.

Today was a blast.

I managed to get through 2 really large main quest dungeons in less than an hour. The last dungeon (Lysandus' Tomb) took me around 12 minutes only! A neat cutscene was my reward. :)

My tactic is simple - random exploration. I didn't even look at the map. I just started taking left turns, eventually returning to my original position, and sometimes breaking this pattern whenever I see a different type of room/segment coming up in front of me. By the time I was getting the hang of it, bam, I see the room I needed.

Nearly finished the game now.

What did I do today you say? Well, I've beaten the main quest. B)

Spoiler
I gave the Mantella to the Underking. I was pleasantly surprised by the last 'space area'.

Which reminds me, which is the canon ending? I believe Freddo told me once some months ago, but I forgot. :( The UESP does not mention which one is canon.

Technically, they all happened simultaneously in the event called the Miracle of Peace. Of course, some of those endings contradict one another, so it's more of a net result of the summed endings.

Hmm...so what happens to the kings/queens? Who prevails? If you give it to say Abuk-i, I believe she uses the power to conquer the rest. So as you said they contradict each other, I'm not sure how they 'summed' them up together.

I was so incredibly disappointed when Morrowind was released and I first saw those teeny tiny "dungeons" -- actually, I don't think they even deserved to be called dungeons. And don't get me started on the blandness of the egg mines. I'm really hoping they will add at least a few major-sized dungeons to the next TES title.

This is Exactly why I hated Morrowind's dungeons. The egg mines were a lame excuse to throw in as many dungeons they could and they were actually a decent bulk of the dungeons available in Morrowind. Many times I would go hunting for caves to explore in the Ashlands and I would get excited to see a cave door in a hidden location only to see a Kwama worker a few feet from the door. That pissed me off each time that happened. Overall, the I find that the dungeons were the weakest aspect of Morrowind, and I don't understand why a lot of people like them so much.

Anyways today I accepted a Fighter's Guild quest in which I was supposed to kill a Daedroth in some dungeon in Mournoth. I was excited to find my first pair of ebony boots and reached level 10 in addition to the pay I got from killing the Daedroth.

I made a character, Ysamir [pronounced: EE-sah-meer] , an Argonian (my real first Argonian in ANY Elder Scrolls game). He is more of a fast swimmer, and thief-like magic caster character, along with the ability to talk to people in appealing manners.

Waking up in Privateer's Hold, Ysamir quickly dealt with the creatures along with that pesky skeleton. He quickly knew the way out, not having time for this foolishness. When he arrived in Daggerfall, he knew that is quest wasnt going to be easy: Finding his main goal, which has yet to be attained. He knows what to do, but when and how is another matter. (I never beat the game, only the first 2 Main Quest quests)

So he ran into an inn, looking for books from a scholar who could teach him the lore of Daggerfall. Trying to learn what was going down in this civilzation. Keeping his mind on the Emporer's words; not failing his quest, he would first learn the lore of this place. "Fools rush in blindly" he thought. So, upon talking to the bartender, the bartender said he needed some help finding a brand new book called "Invocation of Azura."

Upon inspection of the bartender, Ysamir accepted. For a price, course. Ysamir stormed out of that inn in a hurry to finish this. He has to make coin somehow! But the time may be short to do it. Willingly, he found someone who had it, but it was a Thief. Ysamir said, "Ahh, you have my book? Please, I'm sure you heard of my searchings for it, but someone needs this. May I have it?" The thief spoke to him and said "You want this book? Well, then come and get it!!"

Ysamir, not suprised, wielded his shiny Ebony dagger, and thrust upon the thief, on the second story of a house. The thief slipped and fell, so Ysamir made a jumping stab, and kicked the thief in the face on the way to the floor, and as soon as the thief thrust his wakizashi, Ysamir ducked and slew him. Taking the dead thief's belongings, his gold and the book, he quickly fled back.

Upon arrival at the inn, the bartender thanked him, and favored him as a customer, and gave him almost 200 gold. Ysamir returns back to his duties, to find information about this place, its Lore, and his starting point of his quest for the Emporer Uriel Septim VII. "I cannot fail him, for he is a loyal friend and ally", Ysamir thought. "Even if it kills me..."

Thank you! I feel all strung out and messed up right now though like I'm on moonsugar. (Sugar-Lips Seanobi? haha!) I havent had proper sleep in a long time, hehe. Dont count on me posting every adventure as if it were a storyline though. I dont think Im that great at it anyway. I did re-read my post though, and I was like, "Man, did "I" type that?!" I will post on here though if I feel the need, lol

I did play today but I was just messing around. I ran around, robbed houses and killed people, and I robbed houses and killed people, and, OH YEAH, I robbed houses and killed people!... What else? Did I mention I robbed houses and killed people?

Well anyway, when the guards were mad at me for killing them and their "population" as they call that waste of skin and bone marrow, I got banished from Daggerfall.

By the way, this isnt saved, just went to go on a rampage. Then I got kicked out of town, at night. I had the volume cranked up a pretty good amount. Then I heard a weird sound. I was like, wait, this isnt the ambience is it? Wait, I bet its an enemy. Where is he?! Then I turned to my right and a gigantic ghost filled the screen, RIGHT in my FACE, which made me jump! I was like AHH!! Then I killed it, and right after, I heard Vengeance!!! I was like AHH This game is scary!! :shocking:

You know a game is epic when it's made in 1996 and makes you jump twice within 10 seconds!

I created an Argonian Assassin that relies solely on his bow and hand-to-hand.

Using his bow and just SIX arrows, I dispatched most of the enemies in the privateer's hold, and even went toe to toe with a bear using my bare (hee-hee) hands and came out victorious. After escaping the Hold, I went to the nearby Gothway Garden and sold some things. I bought a lot of arrows and a few spells from the Mage's Guild (Open and Recall). I then joined the Dark Brotherhood and am now exploring the vast depths of Hawking's Hold in Tulune.

Ysamir was wandering around Daggerfall, looking for work. Someone lost a book called 'Jokes'. "These idiots need to nail these books to themselves so they quit losing them!" So after searching around, asking people questions, angered, and liable to kill one at any time, he finally found the house he was looking for. He went in, merchants minding their own business... But then Ysamir kept hearing doors opening. "That man is THE NOISIEST Thief if I have ever heard one!" So he searched the entire house and found no one. Odd, but he missed one door. Which was OPEN! Ysamir snuck into the doorway and looked. The thief looked like he was dancing in place. "You fool! Quit your ballet session!!" Ysamir yelled at the green cloaked man. Without question, he knew that was the man who had taken the book, due to instinct. He acted like no other person. He stabbed him in the back, and the thief yelled, "I'll never give --" and he died. He found the book on him and read the book Jokes over the mangled and bloodied corpse. The only thing that amused Ysamir was one joke. It read:

A Dark Elf woman was presented into the castle of Daggerfall. "This place reminds me of six." she said. The man who was guiding her said, "How does this castle remind you of six?"... The Dark Elf woman sighed, "...Everything does..."

Amused, Ysamir returned the book to its rightful owner. Now, he went to find the mages guild after endless hours of asking people for a blood quest, quenching to hone his skills. He got into the guild, and then Ysamir spoke to Theodyval Kinging, whom looked like he was dressed as some guard. Theodyval asked him to go slay an atronach, quickly and quietly. This is someones fault who is in the Mages Guild. "An odd quest, especially from someone who looks like an Imperial guard, in the Mages Guild," Ysamir said, "but I'll do it. I've been thirsting for battle!"

Those words he did regret, he ran outside after creating a horrible first spell, made for healing himself, he heard the words "Vengeance!" It shocked him the first time, as he ran into the night of Daggerfall's town. Then he heard the voice again. "What was that?! How about "DEATH" you bastard!" Upon saying that, it seemed as if King Lysandus heard his words, and spawned a ghost behind him. Upon seeing this, Ysamir ran back into the guild. He then went to sleep, only to be awoken by several noises, that consisted of "Halt! Halt!"

"Shutup! Im trying to sleep!!" "Halt, Halt Halt Halt Ha-" "I said SHUT UP!!! He weilded his ebony dagger, and looked for the noise. "If this noise wont stop, I will kill who is making the noise!" After he sees some men in metal armor approach him, he gets arrested for Vagrancy... Ysamir thought to himself, "I cant sleep in a Guild's Hall?!". After trying to debate, and a fine of ZERO gold, and prison for 6 days, he returned upon Daggerfalls entrance, after release. Foggy and in the morning, someone slipped him a note to see Brissiana. After seeing her, talking about the main mission, Ysamir left, and so did she to return to the empire...

He looked in his journal. He found the name he was looking for and traveled to the dungeon, to find the Atronach. Upon entrance, he fought the usual rats and bats, but then he came to a door that lead to a huge opening, with a pit in the middle, with scaled stairs and an altar. He also saw a horribly mangled body hanging from a chain, within a very small cage. "This is inhumane! If only I could show this to people. This is unbelievably disturbing!!" (It was pretty brutal looking :chaos: )

He saw some rats, and jumped down, all the way down only to kill them after casting the healing spell that barely did a THING! The doors around him were the only ways out but they were magically locked. The only way is up! He climbed a corner of the wall, barely escaping that death trap. He then opened a door that lead down to a cave. He saw a metal, silvery looking man, with 2 bats that looked like as if they were worshipping him.

He ran up to the Atronach and hit him a few times after slaying the bats. Before the atronach died, with his last breath he said,"I could never come back to the guild! I would rather die!" After seeing him fall, a tear rolled down his cheek... Confused of the situation, feeling as if he had done something ... "wrong" -- as if Ysamir didnt know both sides of the story --, he looked upon his body, but nothing. There was gold lieing on the ground, about 150.

Afterwards, Ysamir traveled back to the guild to receive his payment of a measly 114 gold. Even so, he had gained experience and felt stronger (level 2), even though after being in prison. It seems the guard seems to think of him as "unreliable". We will see. "They must rely on me, if the emporer himself, requests that I am to do these favors for him. No one really knows it, but I feel like I am the only chance that everyone has got. A heavy burden, but I must not fail!"

--Wow! I wasnt planning on writing THIS much! But, oh well. :P

I decided to dedicated my whole weekend on finishing the other half the the Main Quest, and a few Daedric Quests along the way.

In the end of the journey,
Spoiler
I touch the Mantella in the hell they call Aetherius. I got teleported back to Nulfaga, and as I promotely leave the caste, the ending kicks in. Too bad the ending got glitch up and not show me the whole ending (I chosen the Underking beforehand). Anyways, its a relief I got to the ending......

Now what to do now.............

Guess now I go forward to Morrowind, hehehe.

Congratulations are in order :-) Actually finishing this game requires loads of patience.

I started new character, custom dark elf http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Daggerfall/fall_004.png, loosely based on premade class. I just love sneaking around and sniping things. He fought his way out of Privateers Hold and currently travels to Midbury in Daggerfall.
His status is http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii171/vaclavc/Daggerfall/fall_009.png.

I would have posted a comment but man, that would have been the LONGEST post in history of posts on this forums. Because it takes like 3 - 5 paragraphs just to say, I got a book from a thief... I did 4 dungeons, maybe 5 if I can remember. And Im still in one, I believe, so pretty much I have been working for the mages guild, a random quest, and maybe a piece of the main quest. So to cut it short, I killed a hundred things, and Im still alive. Trying to leave a dungeon currently I think...

I just started, im in greyhead hall or something, i made a new account that i use for murdering people and stealing, i walk into a town, go to the most crowded place i can fidn, and start swininging my flail, then i break into a few houses and run into the wilderness where the guards cant catch me, then i fast travel to another town and repeat the process, its good fun!
