What did you do in Daggerfall today

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:01 am

Sometimes-- sometimes the quest engine displays a touch of, shall we say, whimsical humor. Today, I went into a Fighter's Guild in Glenpoint, and asked for a quest. I was told a building in town had left their doors open and a wild animal had wandered inside-- would I like to go and kill it? A simple, local quest, absolutely.
Get over to the Fighter's Guild, they tell me-- there's a bear inside. Buh-wah? I'm already at... wait... I turn two feet to the left, and sure enough, there's a very large bear right there next to me.
Well, ok, then. A very quick fight later, and the bear is dead, and I turn two feet to the right to face the questgiver and get my reward. I'm thinking, what, none of you people could have done that?

Sprinted round a corner in a dungeon, with my lvl 5 character, and was surprised as an ancient lich came zooming towards me.
I had my ass handed to me.

I was at a store shopping for armor. I found some cool greaves, and added them to my inventory. My character puts on said greaves. I decide I don't want them, so I click on them in the inventory screen. My guys pants fall off. WTF

started a new character today because to old one ran into a bunch of harpies in this, typically, huge dongeon. between dieing and jumping over holes in the ground and fighting with an ineffective weapon i decided to give it up and start a new one with the ebony dagger.
exited the privateer's hold with much more problem than usual he made his way to Daggerfall and joined The Order of the Dragoon anf the Fighter's Guild. when on a mission for the FG. they bloody sent me into a den of imps! one spell, one kick and a few seconds later dead on the floor.
il y en n'aura pas de facile!

if anybody could tell me how to kill harpies it would be really apreciated.

Don't know what level your character is, but normally when you start encountering lots of a certain monster type, you should have access to weapons good enough to hit them. Try shopping at the incense quality weaponsmiths. Otherwise, make a couple of quick levels and get a better weapon.

Yea, you need Dwarven or better to kill those dang bird women. Or switch to your fists, as they can hurt anything.

LOST: One nearly full set of Dwarven plate armor, consisting of face-mask helm, gauntlets, cuirass, greaves, and boots. Left and right pauldrons Elvish. Also assorted cuirasses of Elvish and Steel manufacture; assorted Dwarvish weaponry; etc.

LAST SEEN: Dropped hastily at the bottom of a deeply flooded tower complex in Dwynnen province; owner forced to rethink ownership in the face of certain drowning. Salvage may prove difficult due to numerous slaughterfish and aquatic zombies. Caution and waterbreathing/waterwalking accouterments are suggested.

IF FOUND: Please return to L., C/O Dark Brotherhood, Tuntry, Dwynnen. Thank you.

Ouch, that's no good at all! Water dungeons can be pretty dangerous. There was a period in my DF career where if I encountered water I'd just turn around and leave. I don't care if your cousin is being held by the DB, I don't swim.

Every adventurer needs some water walking/breathing.

Today, I rolled up a Khajiit Nightblade, and tried to sneak all the way through the Privateer's Hold. I was detected by the last imp, and died. :(

Today my Khajiit thief accepted a task from Queen Barenziah herself - to recover a torc stolen from her by a bunch of Orcs. J'Raska set out to the dungeon in question and after a long and frustrating search (and after killing a bunch of Orcs and finding more loot than she could possibly carry), she finally found the torc and managed to return it to the Queen before the time ran out. Thus J'Raska got the ransom money instead of the Orcs.

Today, my contact in the Dark Brotherhood asked me to escort him to another town on a private matter. Well, of course I'll help you out, ol' buddy, mentor of mine. Wait-- are those... assassins hunting for you? You weren't trying to leave the Dark Brotherhood, were you? *gasp!*
Well, of course I turned him over to the assassins. The +10 faction bonus from the Dark Brotherhood was more than enough to put me over the top to a Master Assassin. :hehe: Pity the game isn't equipped to offer me his old job as questgiver.
As I've said before, the quest engine does seem to have a sense of humor, sometimes.

Today my warlock decided to explore a dungeon, without having a task to perform. It was a refreshing change to normal, being able to explore without worrying about finding a book, or a lost child. Though he is not as skilled at using long blades, my warlock is using a dwarven claymore, as it is more powerful than the warhammer he had been using earlier.

The delve earned him a nice amount of gold, being an adventurer isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but I guess you have to have some talent.

He used the gold to purchase some tuition from the guild of mages, and he learned a couple of new spells. He was going to purchase a weak paralyzing spell, but his eyes noticed an enchanted pair of dwarven gauntlets, which made him more intelligent when worn. An impulse decision was made and now he had the gauntlets.

His bank account had plenty of money in it anyway, around eleven thousand septims, or so, enough so he could eat for months, maybe years to come. And that was just his account in Gavaudon. He had money spread in a few other provinces, though he cannot remember exactly, other than Daggerfall.

I am curious as to what to spend this money on, having earned a lot through recent dungeon diving.. The armour and weapon shops sell inferior gear, mostly leather or iron, when I have currently a composite of elven, steel and dwarven. Where can I buy some good armour and weapons?

Try the Odd Blades in Daggerfall city. Famed throughout the realm for high quality (and high cost). It's not uncommon to find ebony or daedric there, even at relatively low levels.
It can be fun just dungeon delving for one's own sake, instead of a quest-- no pressure to find anyone or anything, no time limits, no need to explore down every hall or get past every locked door. Just wandering and treasure finding, and when you're tired, go home.
Speaking of, have you considered starting up some savings for a house or at least a ship? Those are the big ticket items that take a while to save up for, but can be nice to have. Ships are more useful in game terms than houses, but houses are nicer for RP purposes (especially if you find a town you really like and want to think of as 'home').
You've also got access to the mage's guild, it seems-- you could start saving money to make some really impressive magic gizmos when you've got access to the item maker. Expensive but lots of fun. I still mean to do a no-magic gadgeteer using the Temple of Julianos' item maker, one of these days...

I have considered saving for a ship, as for a house, I don't really have any towns ready to call home, maybe later in his career he will find a place to call home!

Also this wasn't today but last night:

Furu the Warlock had returned from the ruins of copperhart hall in Gavaudon with a cart of odds and ends, he probably looked like a traveling junk salesman when he returned to town. After spending the morning selling various odds and ends to the merchants in the circle, he went to the tavern for a bowl of warm stew, very satisfying when it's snowing outside.

The next day, he wandered over to the Mage's Guild and created some spells. Whilst he was just walking out, the chapter's quest-giver stopped him. "Damn it!", he uttered under his breath. The quest giver gave some spiel about an atronach that had escaped. With a heavy sigh, Furu accepted and headed off to some dank underground ruin to find and slay the thing.

It didn't take long to find, after cutting a swath through skeletons and some sorcerers, and being terribly confused, he found the atronach. There was a gauntlet of sorts, strange brick walls teleported him to smaller areas, full of enemies, and the walls kept appearing. The last one he went through, dropped him into a pit. He survived the fall, and, as a bonus, the atronach was in the very room adjoining the pit.

After slaying the creature, he teleported back to the entrance and returned to the guild hall for his reward. A pie awaited him at the local tavern, and so did a warm bed.
-----------

Edit: I started a new character, a female Khajiit Shadow, pretty much an assassin with limited magic capabilities.. I am writing a journal as I play, something I haven't done before.. Should be fun! Here is what I have done so far:

[The book is a new, leather bound book. The first page reads "Nisaba's Journal".]

Entry 1
-------

The ship I was a passenger aboard has been destroyed. It is only by my skill that I am still alive, kept warm by a small fire, which also serves as my only means to cook the rats in this cave. Still, I should endeavour to find a way out of this hole, I cannot live off rats forever, as their numbers dwindle by the day.. They must be hiding from me!

I have regained some of my strength, my battered body has healed somewhat, so I think I will set off on an incursion deeper into this cave.. I didn't dare venture into the dark before, but after this rest I feel like I should brave it.. Nothing bad could be in there.. right?

In any case, I have a longsword to protect myself, although it is cumbersome and unwieldy.. A nice dagger would be better, but I will have to make do what I have on me. I'll write back later, and write my findings.

-----------
Entry 2
-------

I made it out of the cave.. It was odd.. Just through the opening, which I presumed led to a deeper part of the cave, was a door.. Which led into from what I could tell was some sort of fort. It had a few inhabitants, a couple of people who attacked me, and of course, I could not best them in straight combat. I don't have the training to use a longsword, and my attacks were easily parried, so I had to flee. I was then attacked by a skeleton, so I assume there is a necromancer in the fort somewhere.. I managed to get away from the thing by pulling a lever and riding a throne up to an alcove, which led to a hallway, which in turn led to the exit. I had to run past a few critters to get out, but I am out now..

I am probably going to travel to Gothway Garden, a sign posted said it was not too far to the south.. I'll buy some supplies and then, who knows what I'll do? Probably earn some money, so I can eat, and then some..

-------
Entry 3
--------

I have arrived in Gothway Garden, and purchased a few things. In my journal I shall try to keep record of goods and services bought, so I can reflect upon it and check my finances are straight, and keep track of repairs, etc.

Purchases
---------
Location: The Superior Supply Store, Gothway Garden.
Goods: x1 Steel tanto, x1 silver dagger, x1 khajiit suit
Current Gold: 118 septims.
----
I forgot to log the price, but it shouldn't be an issue anyway. My training as a Shadow will help procure some funds, for now anyway. I haven't heard of any money making opportunities yet, so I'll stick with what I know.. My skills will be rusty though.. Still, I am a solid climber, I should be able to make an escape if need be.
----
Entry 4
----
Well, that could have gone better. I picked a few pockets in Gothway, but got too cocky and I was discovered. Pretty soon, I had what seemed the entire town guard on my tail.. All over stealing a little bit of change! I fled town and traveled to Eastwick. I entered a shop, and tried to steal a bow on display, for it was too expensive.. The shopkeep boomed for the guards, but I managed to slip past them out the door, and quickly scaled the wall of the very shop! I am writing this perched on the roof.. Guards don't even know! Haha, fools.

At the inn I stayed in on the way here, I overheard some *unsavoury* sorts discuss their plans to rob a tomb nearby, sounded like a profitable venture. Little to no locks in place, some heirlooms and personal belongings in the crypts, sounded like some easy money. I marked the place on my map, so I think I'll head there next for a little pocket money.
---
Entry 5
---
I have arrived at the place, "The Woodwing Graveyard". There are a couple of tracks in the snow, some paws, and I think I can see a couple of boot-prints. Let's hope the thieves aren't here first.. I'm about to find the crypt they mentioned and bust in there.
---
Entry 6
---
The crypts seal was broken, and I could smell cheap alcohol as I entered the crypt. I knew there was someone in there already. I crept inside, and down some stairs, deeper into the dank chamber. In the hallway I noticed a shadowy figure, walking slowly and carefully to the burial chamber. I stalked up behind him, but I kicked a loose pebble. He turned within a split second and drew his blade. I hadn't been in a fight in a while, but it was still a quick fight.

He parried a couple of my strikes, but I managed to slash him with my tanto, making a deep gash across his chest. He instinctively grasped at his fresh wound, which was where he made his fatal mistake. Taking this opportunity I quickly sliced his throat, the pain must have overwhelmed him, and he crumpled to the floor. As I stepped over him, I could hear him gurgling and writhing about. By the time I stepped out of the chamber, the body was as still as the air in the crypt. I stripped his corpse, taking what I could carry to sell.

The air outside is cold and crisp.. Strange how you don't notice these things until you've missed them for a while.

J'Raska spent some days training her Short Blade skill at the Thieves Guild today. She helped out a tavern keeper finding his kidnapped daughter, but things started going wrong when she said yes to do some smuggling for the guy as well. She was set up and had to kill a Knight. Someone snuck her a note saying she should go to a tavern in another city for the right person to deliver the smuggler goods, but even when she did, she was still hated by the county. So she left for another county and will try her luck there.

Today I met a Nymph for the first time. Nearl crapped my pants. Or skirt, as it is. The darn girl wasn't in the dungeon either, but hid away in a small house in the same town that I got the quest to save her from. Oh, well, not complaining. Gave me loot, skill raises and even a level up. I'm a whoppin' level five now.

Entry 7
----
I arrived back in Eastwick, and just sold the deceased thieves' axe for around 100 septims. With the money from robbing the crypt, I bought a horse and cart, so that travel is faster and I can store some spare gear in it. This brought me back down to 100 or so septims. Anyway, transaction record follows:
Location: Lord Mordyrick's Merchandise, Eastwick.
Goods: x1 Horse and cart, around 180 septims.
Current gold: 138 septims.
----
Entry 8
---
I heard about another crypt on my roadside travels again, so I made my way there. Another tomb-robber was there already, but he was also easily dispatched, much like the previous one. A quick stab to the solar plexus, an a solid slash to the neck was all it took for this one. The treasure here wasn't too great, the coffin of this so-called noble contained a small pouch of 40 or so septims.. The thieves' equipment will probably fetch a bit more, anyway.

Addendum: here is the transaction record from the crypt's treasures.
Location: A pawn shop in Eastwick.
Sold: Loot from crypt, total of 1154 septims.
Current gold: 1338 septims.
----
Entry 9
----

Grave robbing is turning out to be a rather profitable venture, and not too difficult. Well, the last crypt was a tad more difficult to plunder than the others. I journeyed to "The Copperston Crypts", where a duo was already poking around. Two hooded women, they were actually a small challenge. One was obviously trained in combat, maybe she was fighters guild. She parried a lot of my attacks, but she was too predictable. I feinted an attack and put her off balance, allowing me to plunge my tanto into her stomach, and finish her off with a couple of quick swipes to the skull. Her friend fell much easier.

This crypt had a secret storeroom, where I found some more valuables. The loot now resides in my cart, and I suppose I'm off to find a few more crypts.. Got to be plenty here in Daggerfall.
---
Entry 10
---
I had just stepped out of a crypt I had just looted, and was approached by a stranger. Thinking I had been caught by some authorities, I drew my tanto. The stranger hastily explained he was but a courier sent to deliver me a letter.. I let him go under the conditions he tell no one he saw me at the graveyard..

The letter led me to a Lady Brisenia, she gave me information pertaining to the late Lysandus of Daggerfall. I idly listened, but wasn't particularly interested.. Basically she told me to seek out the rulers of various provinces and get information from them.. Maybe when I get some free time, for now I am not really interested.

Anyway, I'm sitting at the Golden Djinn, I think it's called, in Singbridge of Daggerfall, where I met this Lady. I came straight here from the cold crypt and having a belly full of rich meat stew is a welcome sensation. I am not sure what I shall do today, I might as well explore this town, see what I can get out of it.
----
Entry 11
----
Well, that was certainly interesting. I traveled back to Eastwick and received a letter from one of the beggars in town. The letter accused me of being a thief! Hah! It was a note from the Thieves' Guild apparently. It told me to travel to Knightstown or something and steal a shirt. I did so, and was attacked by a mage, presumably the owner of the shirt. He proved no trouble and his life was ended swiftly.

A note was concealed within the shirt, telling me to go to another town and meet up with some other shady fellow. He made me an initiate of the guild, and gave me one gold for the shirt.. Told me the sign of a Thieves' Guild safe house.. I'll have to keep my eyes open..

I stole a painting from Castle Wayrest after and hour and a half of dungeon crawling. I had to use the Alt-F11 glitch to get out...

Also, today was the first time I saw wraiths. They were scary.

EDIT: Later, I stole a shirt from a castle for the Underking. Then, from doing a lot of quests, I saved up enough money to buy a ship. But, now I don't have any money...

Back to my Warlock..

My Warlock has been traveling around High Rock and Hammerfell, he has increased in strength and power through his journey, and is now level 6. Usually he will travel to a province, check into a guild and get a job, do the job, then move on.

Edit: He has finished a task for The King Of Worms and the queen in Sentinel. He had to find and kill a lich, and then find a painting. This took him a good amount of time, traveling across High Rock and Hammerfel takes time!

I killed a baby dragon in Totambu for the Order of the Scarab. Luckily the dragon was in a cage when I found it, so it couldn't hit me and made everything a lot easier.

Today I decided to play with one of the Daedric artifacts I've never owned before-- the Sanguine Rose. After a little summoning at the local coven, a little questing to kill a priest, and whatnot, I was the proud new owner of a sparkly and showy blossom. Didn't impress me so very much at first until I went to play with it.
In the streets of Daggerfall city, I killed a few of the tissue-paper citizens and waited for the guards to show up. A dozen or so mail-clad bruisers. Halt, halt. Halt, etc. Then I climbed up on a rooftop and used the Sanguine rose several times.
What fun!
A dozen summoned Daedroth appeared and a huge battle raged through the streets of the city, guards running back and forth, Daedroth casting spells and chopping at guards, and the few remaining citizens fleeing for their lives! Between them the guards could only manage to bring down one of my Daedroth, while the rest left a stew of guard bits littering the streets. It was tremendously entertaining-- why the heck doesn't Daggerfall have more summoning spells outside of artifacts?

I just began a new character named redmer the wise. he's a nord. He joined the fighters guild and his first mission turned out to be far more than he orginally thought it would be. It began as a simple duengeon. then i found out it was populated by centeaurs, werewolves, and scorpions. i got by and even found a map to a witches coven. then things turned from good to worst.

I ran into a room that was overpopulated by too many creatures i counted 2 liches, 2 knights, 2 scorpions, 2 centeaurs, 2 bats, 2 rats, and 2 vampires all spawned in the same spot. I managed to kill everything but the liches and they started chaseing me. I eventually lost them thankfully. I finally found the giant i was afther but unluckly he was across a gap that i couldn't jump. so I took a leap of faith and jumped and missed but luckyly grabed the wall and climbed up. I soon as i hit the giant 3 more showed up behind me across the gorge. i defeated the one giant and had to jump back across to defeat the other three and finally find my way back to the entrance. to make things worst i got payed 50 gold and a map to another duengeon. He desided to turn in for the time being and take a few days off.
