Killed Gaenor.
I got the GotY edition for Christmas, so I've just been getting into it-- Tribunal first. Went in with my most recent character-- a level 43 Dunmer Nerevarine/Arch-Mage/Redoran Archmaster/Patriarch/Fighters Guild Master/Morag Tong Grandmaster, and as it turns out, I'm glad I did. He's maxed in heavy armor and long blade (and blunt), and I've been running him in medium armor with a short blade, just to get some more experience. He's at about 60 in each. He was wearing a set of mod armor called Netch/Adamantium (very cool armor-- just what it sounds like-- Netch leather with adamantium plating stitched into it. IIRC, it had the same stats as adamantium, but I changed the esp so that it's a bit lighter and a bit weaker-- in any event, it's a bit lighter and a bit weaker), and carrying two short blades-- an ebony shortsword enchanted for 24 points of absorb health and a daedric wakizashi enchanted for 20 points of absorb health + soul trap.
So.... he had wandered around, talked to people, killed some goblins, spent about an hour fist fighting some Bosmer in the Winged Guar, this and that.... and had talked to Gaenor. Just because I've seen so many references to him, I knew about what to expect. Or thought I did. See though-- this character is nearly god-like, y'know? He went down into the sewers and just walked through them, killing goblins and durzogs and liches and such left and right, and without even breaking a sweat. And sure, I'd read a lot about Gaenor, but we're talking god-like here....
So.... he came into the main courtyard there, and there's Gaenor, all decked out in ebony. So I figured it was time, and checked and made sure that everything was repaired and charged and ready to go, saved the game, and approached him. And got stomped. By the time my god-like character was down to two Exclusive Restore Healths (after starting out with 16) and hadn't hardly budged Gaenor's health bar, I gave it up and restarted. And went back to Ald'Ruhn and got outfitted. Figured this 60 points of armor and weapon skill just wasn't going to do it, particularly with a deliberately sort of gimped set of armor and a shortsword. So, since both his heavy armor and long blade are maxed, I switched him out to the Lord's Mail, Fists of Randagulf, Ebony pauldrons, Daedric boots and greaves and Eleidon's Ward, and enchanted a new weapon just for the occasion-- a daedric katana with 36 points of absorb health. Named it 'Gaenor Swatter." Then made the roundabout trip by silt strider to Balmora to Vivec, then by boat to Ebonheart, then by teleport to Mournhold, and tore Gaenor apart. He just didn't stand a chance. At 100 skill, my character still didn't hit him all the time, but he hit him often enough to keep him mostly staggered, and the whompin' 36 points of absorb health chewed Gaenor up and kept my guy going, and it was over in just a couple of minutes.
And then I found myself, standing over this body in full ebony with an ebony longsword, myself decked out in full heavy armor (and half of it daedric) and already carrying 540 of my buffed 610 encumbrance limit. So I thought about it a bit, and turned around and went back-- teleport to Ebonheart, boat to Vivec, silt strider to Balmora to Ald'Ruhn, stripped off all the heavy gear, put Gaenor Swatter in a place of honor, strapped on the other two swords ("Reaver" and "Jack", FWIW) and put the netch/adamantium back on, silt strider to Balmora to Vivec, boat to Ebonheart, teleport back to Mournhold. Looted Gaenor's body and stashed everything in Velas Manor (my new favorite house), and..... burnt out on all that travel, but quite proud of whoopin' Gaenor so soundly--- here I am.
Time to go back now I guess..... I'm not even sure what's next-- I've done everything the two dudes in the Temple have currently, plus every side quest I could find..... there's a couple of interesting places I haven't explored in the sewers yet though, and I'd kind of like to play with the Blessed Spear a bit-- work on my spear skills. I'm sure something'll turn up.
