What did you do in Morrowind today? #9

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:49 am

Today I joined the fighters guild and did a few little jobs for them. While on a mission in the Caldera mine, I freed all the slaves, which upset company business and made me feel rebellious and happy. I stole a nice sword that had been reputed to be quite difficult to steal, which made me feel proud. I set up housekeeping in a nice house in Balmora that the owner won't be needing any more. The ground floor is spacious, but the bedroom's way too small and somebody has totally trashed it. I took a nature walk and killed my first cliff racer.

Being in both the Temple and the Imperial Cult at the same time always made very little sense to me a in a roleplaying sense. You worship the Tribunal AND the Nine Divines? As far as I know, native Dunmer don't generally belong to the Imperial Cult; it's generally for Imperial citizens residing in Morrowind. The Temple is for native Dunmer and most outlanders will find the idea of worshiping these three self-proclaimed "false Gods" to be ridiculous.

On the contrary, embracing the contradictions inherent in the teachings of the Tribunal and the Nine Divines is very plausible; it's very Zen. There is more than one way to roleplay that, too: the evil path has you join both religions and cynically exploit them for the perks and quest gifts they provide; the politician's path gives lip-service to both religions for the popularity that high rank in both factions provides; the witch hunter's path judges good and evil and finds both to punish and reward under the authority given by questing for both religions.

What I did in Morrowind today: tested several unreleased mods. Assassinated that scuttlehead Tribonius with one Daedric arrow from a sniper's version of the Bow of Shadows, without being detected; used the Ring of Yakin's Shame to abuse the skill of Restoration. Tested an artifact-quality version of the Shield of the Undaunted.

Practically nothing. After talking to Hassour Zainsubani in the ald skaar inn, I headed back to balmora to update Coscades with my progress. Before I could enter the door I was side tracked into the expanded area of balmora (mod) and ended up in the Balmora sewers shopping for some new armor.

After I bought some I finally reported back and went to the Urshilaku camp for my next mission. I never really realized how easy it is to find, not to mention, when distant land (MGE) is enabled. So i'm crawling around inside when I come upon a skeleton archer. He fires an arrow at me, it sounds cold enchanted, and the game freezes.

I gave it a rest after that.

I think im gonna join house Hlaalu and do some of those quests as I don't remember them all too well. :)

I walked out of my Balmora home and suddenly the screen went black, the game fullscreen game window minimized, and I saw an error saying some mesh files couldn't be found. I exited the game, reloaded, and the same thing happened. And then I did it again and again, but the same thing happened every time. So, I just went about my business avoiding Balmora. :banghead:

My character Swiftbow sadly had to find the Dark Brotherhood enclave, and left nothing alive. He'll sleep off the damages at the Winged Guar with a Flin and a courtesan, then present the contract he found to Tinieus Delitian in the morning.

Went to play my Nord Guard character only to realize I deleted his save after Morrowind's ITSOVER500 savegame crash a few months ago. Fortunately, I am a packrat, so I found my old saves and randomly copied and pasted saves until I found all four of my characters bunched up together for a book jackets/rotate mod test, loaded, saved under a new name that makes it slightly easier to find them, and created a folder in my Morrowind folder (I have a separate one used as an archive of saves, mod notes, and troubleshooting) with a current date and a text file to explain what my saved chars were doing, mods being used at the time, and some warnings about mod glitches/bugs. In short, I finally dug through 150 or so saves for 4 characters, renamed them, and copied them in a separate folder so I can easily figure out what char is what and where I can find fairly recent saves the next time something gets corrupted or saves have to be deleted. I highly recommend keeping a couple recent saves as a backup, and be sure to note which saves are which as Morrowind likes cutting off save names into zeroes...

That being done, I'm going to help my level 30 Nord (well, more like watch) deal with a drunk man from Witchgirl Adventures. Here's to hoping Samson doesn't get offered mead; I'm not sure Ordinators really want a drunken Nord with longswords and axes flailing about in their bars...

Bridget, a Breton Agent has arrived in the first Ashlander Camp during her quest for that crazy addict Caius.
As she beings to understand the concept of the Nerevarine, she knows that she will accept the call of Great House Dagoth.
She understands that power corrupts, and that that corruption can be so much fun. Today Vvardenfell, tomorrow Almalexia City and beyond.

Lost a ton of "guy credits" by buying several thousand septims worth of female Elven clothing and Gypsy Dresses for future companions and dancing mannequins.

Enchanted a Daedric katana I was given with shock and called it StormKiss, and put some NightEye on a Daedric Bow I relieved from the body of the poor lady Golena Sadri. She had great taste in arrows though.

Plan to spend tomorrow looking for Mr Robin Hood to purchase a few of his Lincoln Green outfits.

Busy day, and I've only just started! Today is my day to play MW. Started out informing Ranis that the one who left is dead, the other will join up. Tele to Sadrith Mora where I supplied Big H with the desired Alembic (? maybe?) and then agreed to secure a mage for their cornerclub. Boat trip to Tel Vos to take care of a blighted Kwama Queen. That darn Master Aryon (my patron, even) wouldn't promote me, so now I'm off to pay heard-earned cash for some stupid spells that I already made or have enchanted items for. Quick visit to Balmora to sell off a few weapons, then up to Caldera to look for spells and "borrow" some ebony for the picky chick in Wolverine Hall. Tele to Ald-Ruhn to look for spells (should have used the EUSP) and start the quest line from Percius Mercius, great name! Then back to Sadrtih Mora to set up Big H and on to Tel Vos to see Master Aryon . . . wait, the boat guy told me the Black Jinx is here? And all I have to do is be brave? Um, I'm level 23, so I think I'm brave enough. Short visit to the Morag Tong, short scuffle, and the Black Jinx is mine! Wait, wife needs me for a few minutes. Save, try to remember task list . . . Rotheran, Vas, Incarnate Cavern, Mast Aryon . . . oy! It's like real life!!

The EUSP? Does that have anything to do with the European Union? (yeah , it's the uesp, I know)
So far, I havn't done much in Morrowind today, but on my mod (see sig,) I made the illusion of progress, and began to doubt the quality of my refrence maps, as there are several settlements marked on the maps that don't seem to exist...

I've done quite a lot in Morrowind today. I started a new character since I'm on break and have time to run through the game and I've been raiding dungeons with brief trips back to Seyda Neen to dump my loot and restock on scrolls and potions. Started up with the basic quests around Seyda Neen, then cleaned out Addamasartus, and hit the Samarys, Sarys, and Thelas ancestral tombs. Hit Aharunartus next and reached level 2 while in there. Then I decided to try something challenging so I headed for Assemanu and pulled off one of the hardest fights I've ever attempted, I cleaned out the cave and killed Dagoth Hlevul at level 2. Good thing I was carrying my Scroll of Hellfire with me when I made it Hlevul since I ran out of arrows and magicka before he was completely down, I couldn't have finished him without it or survived since he had me backed against a wall with no way out.

Started a character specifically for RPing. A Breton. Its basically a Monk, but with a few differences. So far, everything is progressing pretty good and RPing, usually being kind of hard for me is going fairly decent.

The second he got out of the Census and Excise office, I started increasing Alteration. Alt is now at 85 and I already got to Arch-Mage of the Mages Guild. The Imperial Cult is going well too. Finished all but the Oracles' quests. And just finished the Seven Graces.

So not too shabby considering its not even noon yet

Spent a long time levitating from Vivec to Maar Gan so I could train my light armor to lvl 85. Hoping to complete my Hlaalu stronghold and begin filling it with crap.

EDIT: The explanation for the training my light armor is because I thought I would do it a tricky way and taunt Nine-Toes into punching me so it would level up. Problem here is, he would rather use some god awful drain health 2pts on touch skill for the first 20 minutes of the fight. Then he finally got out his crossbow, and just as I was about to level up in light armor... he ran out of bolts.

Day 211 for my character Valdemar, a custom class Nord, I guess you could call him a battlemage. Currently going through the Fighter's Guild and House Redoran questlines. Spent waaay too much time running around Tel Naga in Sadrith Mora searching for Engaer, in order to collect the bounty on his head. He was literally in the very last place I could look. I taunted him into drawing first, then cut him down with my daedric katana. It's funny, I see Valdemar as this badass warrior, but his highest skills are speechcraft (95) and acrobatics (82).
I got a message in my journal to see Galsa Gindu about my new stronghold, so I went to talk to her, and she sent me to Bal Isra to see how work was progressing. There was an intense dust storm between Ald Ruhn and Bal Isra, so I spent waaay too much time running around West Gash searching for my stronghold site, but I finally found it. I can't wait for it to be finished, it'll be nice to have a place for all my stuff, instead of storing everything in the crates in front of the Balmora Mage's Guild. And the Fighter's Guild. And over by the Lucky Lockup...
Then I jumped on the Guild Guide freeway for a while; sold some stuff to Creeper, went to Balmora to store some goodies, and then returned to Sadrith Mora to see what Hrundi's next quest was. Well, looks like I'm about to spend waay too much time running around Sheogorad searching for the Pudai Egg Mine and it's fabled Seven Eggs of Gold.

I do so love this game.

Day 210 for my Mage Voranil,

Most recently I completed Illuminated Order questline and became a lich. I was already insanely powerful as an Aundae Vampire/Telvanni Archmagister but now it's just ludicrous. I have over 4,000 points of mana, all of my magic stats are at 100, bar mysticism/illusion which are both 180. Also have 150 in umarmoured and several artifacts that see my health regenerates fast enough that I can stand in the sun in my vampiric form for as long as needed. I am practically immune to most elements except fire and have spells that do 300 points of damage (absorb health is SO overpowered), some of them in a massive area which is enough to one-shot all but the toughest of enemies.

Travel isn't an issue either, super jump spells mean I can get from Balmora to Ghostgate in a single leap and if not I only have to levitate (fairly crazy magicka regeneration as well) or morph into a bat and fly over.

He's spent most of his cash on enchantments as it is, but he's already got a fully upgraded Tel Urvith (Urvith's legacy/BUUL) and around 10 Golden Saint souls incase he gets desperate. Yet to finish either Tribunal or Bloodmoon but as everything is so easy I doubt I'll bother, same goes for any other quests that I haven't finished yet.

It was really challenging (and fun) in the early levels but it's at the point now where I can walk into a town and kill half of its citizens with a single spell which is quite frankly boring. I think what ruined it early on is that I found a glitch to 'permanently' summon any summonable creature. I didn't view it as an exploit as I discovered it on my own - and it was sorta fun to play Overlord with an army of Golden Saints/Dremora only to be blown to bits by my own Dremora's AoE spells. Even that had its limitations mind you, the stupid creatures would quite often get stuck or forget who they were following or jump into a pit of lava or... One time I summoned 12 Golden Saints and around as many Dremora to take on 3-4 Berne vampires (using Vampire Realism so they're [censored] tough) only to watch as the vampires obliterated my little army and cut my throat.

tl;dr is move over Tribunal, there's a new God-King in town.
