What did you do when you finished school?

Post » Wed Jul 23, 2014 6:11 am

I'm curious because I finish soon.

I plan on getting a job and just making money. :P

Grade 12 I should clarify, or whatever the equivalent is in your country.

I kept going. :P

In seriousness, have you considered university / trade school? Or are you just going to throw yourself at the job market?

I definitely don't intend on continuing with education, school isn't for me.

I may do an apprenticeship of some sort eventually, but I just want to work until I have enough to travel at the moment.

I went straight into uni, where I've been for the past 4 or so years. I'll be graduating at the end of this year unless I decide to do an additional honours year or something postgrad.

Went to work. I'm still working. I'm sick of working. I'm ready to retire.

What are you good at?

You should at least think about something more than just a job....... a trade?

I thought I wanted to be a chef, got a job in a restaurant, realised I didn't want to be a chef...

So I'm not really sure.

I think a chef would be a hard job myself. A few trades you might make money at plastering, plumbing, electrician, plumbers can make real good money but you have to be prepared to deal with [censored].

Literally.

That is probably what I'll end up doing, a more practical trade.

After high school I joined the military in 1991, a memorable year no doubt. I knew college wasn't for me and I had made my decision by my junior year.

If I had finished school today I don't believe I'd make the same choice.

After I got my Bachelor I went backpacking. Kept at it for 2 years.

I've been @ work ever since I returned from my adventures.

I taught English to people overseas when I left university. It's a good way to travel.

There is the idea of having a trade "an occupation requiring manual or mechanical skill". Winston Churchill said every man should have a trade, and he wanted to be a bricklayer. Myself I should have learned to make furniture.

I've heard that plasterers make a lot of money (in the Netherlands at least) so that might be worth a look. And you won't have to deal with [censored]. :P

I floundered for 3 years at the local college my Father taught at, then joined the US Army. I met my ex-wife while at college and wanted to make money to get married :)
