What direct X version do you have? (poll)

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 11:16 am

Oh holly ****!!!!

DirectX 9 - 1%
DirectX 9 (but my card is capable of DX 10) - 4%
DirectX 9 (but my card is capable of DX 11) - 12%
DirectX 10 - 11%
DirectX 11 - 72%

WOW.... it's just: WOW. I never thought so many people besides me have a GPU capable of DX11! I though most have DX10 stuff still. Really impressive. SEE CRYTEK, DO YOU SEE THIS?!

That's 217 (out of how many THOUSANDS?) people using dx11. Not a statistical sample you can count on.

THATS OUT OF DATE It clearly says May 2009- May 2010!

The latest figures are here

http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

19.23% in February (the speed of adoption is also increasing with a larger gain in market share each month)

Why there is no column for March when it now says March survey at the top I have no clue (edit: It seems it's because they did a software survey in March but not a hardware survey.)

HAHA! Seriously? Two Xeons and 48 gigs of RAM... really?... really? I hope you're not just using that for playing games and also have a direct link to CERN or something. Seriously what do you use that thing for?

It is also important to note from the Steam survey that it includes everyone that has steam installed. I started this poll to see what the average hardware was among people that were generally of a more "hardcoe" gaming demographic. Crysis 2 already has system requirements that exceed a good deal of the hardware on the steam survey so Crytek was not targeting them.

DX11 is the future and CryTek knows this guys, and Crysis 2 is Crytek flagship, I'm sure they will implement it in time.

Just not "in time" for the release obviously.

I answered "DirectX 11" because the question is about which version of Direct X is on the PC. It doesn't specify what Graphics Card is installed. So, since I'm using Windows 7 x64 Pro, I have DirectX 11 installed on my system. And, in addition to that, I DO have a DX 11 capable GPU installed.

I recall reading not long after Crysis was released that Crytek made a statement that they weren't going to release anymore "PC Exclusive" titles. Seems they are following through on that statement by releasing titles for the consoles, too....and not bothering with any additional content/features that would be "exclusive" to the PC.

i just want to point out that the game is running in dx10. if you have dx11 and most of us do i dont understand the fact that people are getting frustrated that it didnt ship in dx11 is stupid because in most games the diference is very very minimal compared to direct x 10. but i have dx11 and i dont give a **** the game looks incredible especially in 3d.

I would like to think that people would not over think the question and be thinking "Ha! I only have a DX 10 GPU, but since I am using Windows 7 the api for DX 11 is technically installed in my OS. Therefore my DX version is 11."

lol. just heard some rumor that crysis 2 will have dx9 and dx11 only. if this is true then i think this was unfair to dx10 or dx10.1 card owner?

It's pretty much already unfair to those who didn't buy this game on the console.

Is it possible Steam has released false statistics for some reason? 20% seems a bit low now.

Unlikely, it changes often because new stats are being submitted constantly.

I dunno, they leave figures a over a year out of date on the front page.

IT SAYS MAY 2009-MAY2010 in small grey writing.

They obviously wanted to give the impression less people have DX11 than do. Probably because it gives everybody an excuse to do cheap ass games. Source Engine could very well be the last to support DX11 and alot of Steam business is ports. What stops them just lying?

True it's 81% by the way there are two DX11 options you need to add them together, there will be a responder bias. Obviously people with better hardware are more likely to report it. Steam will surely use an algorythm to adjust for that. But it certainly looks like they over adjusted.

There is no methodology for the Steam Survey (or at least I can't find one). They're bound to have adjusted the DX11 and quad core figures down to account for response bias. Why aren't they transparent about that? And what else do they do to cook the figures I wonder?

And why is it almost everybody I encountered playing Sup Com 2 had a quad core a year ago?

Look at the figures again 81% have DX11 capable gpus according to this data (there are two options for people with a DX11 GPU). This higher number is partly due to response bias (Steam cooked the figures to account for known variables which affect the figures) partly to do with a different distribution of hardware within Crytek fans etc etc.

But still this DX11 data is so high it calls the Steam data into question because to get down to 19.23% they would've needed to do so much downward adjusting it's insane. I would imagine looking at this that they must've started with raw data that said at least 40% had DX11.
