What dissapointed you?

Post » Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:11 pm

My dissapointments:

No excessive gore (I want to cut off someone's arm)
Dragons (I don't like dragons, they're overused)
According to the news, it is a sterotypical good (humans and the rest) vs bad (dragons), I want variety

The fact of no co-op in my opinion, the fact that the cities are not open, other than that everything seems amazing :)

They never said no amputation/decapitation, just that it wouldn't be like Fallout's(i.e. no exploding bodies from a pistol shot to the arm)

I agree, co-op would be great.

I would advise doing some cursory inspection of Elder Scrolls lore on this one.

It's hard to say yet since, you know, I haven't actually played the game. But some general observations so far which i'm not too happy about:

. Dragon shouts (not getting into another argument about this, but basically voice-acting for the character-player is a TERRIBLE idea in my opinion. Even if it's just a few words)
. Too much lighting in dungeons (only seen a few screenshots, but they look far too bright. Ancient dungeons should have little or no sources of light)
. Children, aka the little immortals (don't get me started...)
. Combat (a little early to tell yet, but I have a horrible feeling they're going to make this overly dramatic, scripted and unrealistic to appeal to mainstream action game audiences)

Pretty much everything else sounds great so far...

No Spears, no Crossbows, no Throwing Darts, Stars and Knives.

The only thing that could dissapoint me now is if we have a lack of towns and villages/settlements as Oblivion had

Edited: I hate Fast Travel.

For the most part, I've been pretty happy (or at least satisfied) with what I've heard in terms of gameplay and story. There's been a few disappointments so far, though.
Things like...

no open cities
lack of DX11 shaders (it'll use DX11 optimizations, but that's about it)
map size is about as big as Oblivion's (I was hoping for bigger)
assorted graphical issues (some shots are pre-alpha, which gives me hope, but how much can I expect them to improve?)

Well we differ.

I HATE excessive gore, especially when it's over the top and just stupid looking (i.e. - DA2).

Dragons are great! Traditional fantasy fare for a good reason.

A good story has good vs. bad. That's just the way it works. Trying to do something that's all grey (again i.e. - DA2) is just really bad.

There is nothing wrong with using things that are traditional and accepted by all. Being different just to be different doesn't always work.

1. Average graphics at most in comparison to the modern graphics standard.
2. Same world size as Oblivion.
3. There is cell seperation.
4. We can't see our body in 1st person view?
5. Maybe (we don't know for sure yet): if quest markers and compass icons are in and can't be togglable.
6. Maybe (we don't know for sure yet): if we can't climb.
7. Maybe (we don't know for sure yet): if we can't wade through snow (and we simply just walk on top of it all the time).
8. Maybe (we don't know for sure yet): if horses aren't in.
9. Maybe (we don't know for sure yet): if battle music don't fade or isn't togglable.
10. The variety of pine trees is practically none or minimal. There should be more variety of trees within each specific region, not just repetetive forests. This is a big deal to me.

I have to turn the music off to avoid battle music (again).

If I can turn battle music off and still have music, then it looks good thus far.

(Actually, it still looks good.)

Edit: . "Dragon shouts (not getting into another argument about this, but basically voice-acting for the character-player is a TERRIBLE idea in my opinion. Even if it's just a few words)." sheogorath88.

Yep. I absolutely hate that too.

Edit 2: "Dragons" gpstr. :foodndrink:

Dare I ask what is wrong with the blank slate, lack of attributes/less skills, combat+magic and dragons in your eyes?

Blank slate beginning is one of the best features of the Elder Scrolls series. It gives you full control over your character with no personality or appearance imposed.

Would you honestly rather they make a character for you like in most action-adventure games...?

Major:

- gutted attribute system (devolved character, loss of immersion for spells and alchemy)
- cutting skills rather than expanding
- relying on health meters and perks for what a developed attributes system could do more realistically
- levitation...?
- spell making...?
- fear of the same crappy UI that OB had. (the skill trees/constellations nonsense makes me think it will be worse)

Minors:

- fear that quests will be cliche bores (ie theives guild)
- dragon shouts (incredibly tacky, other than that.... )
- separated cities (more for levitation impact than anything else)

Two disappointments, first is possibly no one handed weapon parries, the other is my almost total indifference to dragons, but we've been waiting five years for this, and I am not going to let an overgrown lizard who's most terrifying power is gobbiness spoil it for me.
