What does "bugged" mean?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:52 am

OK, so this is only the second RPG I've ever played, FO3 being the first. I've never had what I considered to be bugged quests at least in FO3. I now have 3 examples of what I think are bugged quests, but I'm just not sure?

1. Quest Aba Daba Honeymoon - all 3 boxes to the right showing tasks completed are checked, yet the quest itself doesn't show as completed
2. GI Blues - Quest arrow marker won't lead me to the squatter camp, so it seems impossible to find
3. Other quests - seem to have the same exact map markers as another quest in my queue to be completed

I hadn't encountered any of these prior to the patch, but it could be unrelated as I have just progressed far enough to be able to do these quests just recently.

What exactly do you folks do when this happens? Start over from the begining or resort back to an earlier save?

I'm now off to scour the forums the see if I can find more examples of "bugged" quests.

well i would save it right now but not over your last save and go back and get the quest or if you still have it just check if its still bugged if it is you can either wait for the new patch comin up relatively soon or start a new character. or you can start a new side character with different skills etc and just come back to this one after they patch it. whatever you want to do.

Bugged means there is an unintentional problem, a glitch.

What system are you on? I'd like to send this to the appropriate hardware forum to better follow up on the specific bugs you listed.

Quest spoilers:

Spoiler
So if Aba Daba Honeymoon was supposed to put up a new objective and it didn't the quest is bugged. If you've done all of the runs you still need to teach Jack some new chems to complete the quest I believe and I don't remember if that showed up as a new objective.

I haven't done GI Blues so I can't help you there, and are you sure problem number three is a bug? Some quests will send you to the same place. If you follow the main quest you'll eventually get a quest to go to the Topps and deal with Benny; when you enter the strip Victor will invite you to the Lucky 38 and Mr. House will give you a quest to get the Platinum Chip from Benny - so you'll have two quests with the exact same destination. I can think of a number of other quests that send you to the same location although the markers may diverge when you get there.

You do know that you must hilite one quest at a time, and then all the markers will point to that specific quest... right?
Also, sometimes you will accomplish something in another quest (besides the one you have hilited) and the game will advance you, but you still have a different quest hilited.
It can seem confusing at times...
And if the quest does not go away, it means that there is still more to come - this is not a glitch or bug.

What Hungry just said is the solution to your first quest.
Spoiler
You have to talk to Jack, a guy right next to Diane (or whatever her name) and it will provide with another objective. The objective is to teach Jack 3 recipes. The quest will then be completed.

I'll hazard a guess here.
Spoiler
You refused to become a drug dealer, right? (For ?Jack and Diane?.....?2 wasteland punks growing up in these hard-lands?. Can't help but get that song in my head every time I see their names.:P)

I have the same issue and that is why.

Yeah, I did know that but it seems like all of my quest markers are in the same place for all the quests I've yet to complete. I haven't started the Benny quest as I thought I read that it's part of the end game and I'm trying to avoid the main quest. I still haven't been to the strip yet and I'm Lvl 20 or so. Quests sometimes seem to complete even though I've done nothing or I don't get a quest after speaking with someone like I thought I would. An example is from the Armorer at Ft McCarran. He told me to go deliver some meds to someone and I have no idea if this was a quest as there's nothing in my queue. Oh yeah, you guys are so helpful. I'm 47 years old and haven't been playing PC games for very long so it's refreshing to find lots of folks willing to help out an old guy. Now, if I could just figure out how the multi-post thing worked I'd bee in good shape!!!

The quest marker in G.I. Blues is deceptive according to the fallout wiki. I had a problem finding Elizabeth Keiran at the Ruined Store in that quest until I followed these directions...

Actually Im pretty sure I know why all your quest markers point to the same place. You are currently stuck in Freeside. The quest marker isn't at the door to go to the other part of freeside (like it looks like) You actually have to walk AROUND that building.
As for the different quests they all prob either point outside or to vegas because your other quests want you to walk outside first before pointing you to other locations.

1. Quest Aba Daba Honeymoon - all 3 boxes to the right showing tasks completed are checked, yet the quest itself doesn't show as completed.

This is not a bug. It happened to me as well. Talk to Diane again and she might have something else for you. Once you do this last thing, the quest shows up as completed.

2. GI Blues - Quest arrow marker won't lead me to the squatter camp, so it seems impossible to find

This is not a bug. The squatter's camp is just an area of Freeside. There is no sign that says "squatter camp" it and it is not a marked location. When you get to where the marker says it is, look around for someone to talk to.

3. Other quests - seem to have the same exact map markers as another quest in my queue to be completed

Probably not bugs. Often, markers point to a door to another cell. Once you go through the door, the markers should reset to the next waypoint. Also, there are multiple quests that send you to the same spot. If you played Fallout 3 you will remember the subway tunnels make following a map marker sometimes adventurous. Same thing with Freeside and New Vegas.

In general, I start off thinking that there is no bug and that I am just not "getting it" If I cannot progress, then I come here to see what others have done. An example of a truly bugged quest would be if you talk to Melissa of the Great Kahns and do her quest prior to the Oh My Papa quest. She has a part to play in the Papa quest but disappears from the game world if you meet her before you meet papa Kahn so the second quest cannot be completed. Sometimes things like this can be rationalized in the lore of the game, sometimes not. Often, the game developers will issue a patch to correct flaws and bugs, and sometimes modders (on PC only) will correct the problem.

"I'm 47 years old and haven't been playing PC games for very long..."

I am 58 but I have been playing games on PCs since before IBM started making them. There are a lot of us old guys out there.

It's interesting that I'm having problems at Vault Three and it happens to be while I'm doing this same quest Aba Daba Honeymoon.

Problems with Motor-Runner.

(see my Vault Three thread)

I've had this happen a couple times. Definitely a bug. You can still complete the quests, but the markers are all messed up, so just don't follow them.
