Ask, and ye shall receive. The folks in that part of the forum know the most about the lore, and they don't venture out much.

This is all just to say: I don't know, and not many do. Even having somebody explain it to me it still goes over my head. The gist of it (I think) is it's godhood in a way. Vivec achieved CHIM (I think).
Then there's also talk of it being a reference to the Construction Set that comes with the PC version of the games.

Essentially, from what I understand, it means you're an unholy lie and a the very threads of reality are yours to pimp to whomever you please.

Also, its not controversial. Its just that some people like it and some don't, plus it has a tendency to become a hotword for issues unrelated to it.

First off, A moderator should move this to the Lore section.

Chim is one of those things that we aren't really meant to understand fully. Chim -- as we know it -- is the shortend version of AE CHIM CE ALTADOON. As I understand Chim, it is when you realize that you are merely part of Tower that makes up the universe when turned sideways (The univesrse is a wheel, and if you turn a wheel sideways then it is a Line). If you simply realize that you don't exist and you are part of this tower, you disappear, called Zero Summing. If you Realize that you are the Tower, but you can mantaine your own uniqueness, you have the power to bend the rest of the tower to your whim.

CHIM: Imagine that the outcomes of an action are determined by a dice that rolls in the background of life. CHIM is controlling that dice. It's like hacking life.

But that's just the effects of CHIM. Achieving CHIM is a whole other thing all together.

CHIM is pretty funny because it's in a universe based on a video game, where it would make sense even without magic.

Besides "why", the most important question a person should ask is "I"?

Or perhaps this is a statement.

It is a letter, written in uncertainty.

Hence the running joke that he who controls the construction set has CHIM: they see Tamriel for what it really is but are unaffected by it. Wait, if I delete Vivec from the game, does that mean he has zero-summed?

Naturally - the cosmos having gone soul searching is the cause of everything, researching the nature of souls is equally researching the nature of the universe, of course they're gonna stumble upon CHIM.

Yes. A group of red haired, golden skilled exodites from Summerset.

The inflection (accent?) however is one letter earlier. Chi-Mer, not Chim-er. Mer means folk, Chi change, iirc.

If it helps at all, I see it as a kind of waking up within the Tes universe. It is either realizing the whole thing is fictional, or realizing it is all the dream of the godhead, which in essence are about the same thing, as dreams are fictional. When you have CHIM it is pretty much assumed you have quite a good deal of power, being on a god-like level, if not a god yourself.

One of the most frequently cited achievers of CHIM is Vivec, who used it along with his Lorkhan powers to become the uber face [censored] dude he is today. He actually wrote about it, but I fear linking the page would raise more questions than it would solve.

Another person who achieved CHIM was the first Tiber Septim, better known as Talos, who changed Cyrodiil from a jungle into a forest for his people, all with his CHIM powers. He changed the terrain meshes and ground textures basically :P Of course, I can't find this, so I have a very good chance of being wrong, as I frequently am. Just waiting for someone to prove it though

Interestingly enough, no one has bothered to make a UESP wiki page on the subject, a matter I find both hilarious and a little frustrating, as that's where I go for basic summaries when I need some non-specific information.

I know I'm wrong on this, but there are very few people are right when it comes to CHIM. Closed fridges don't count, or whatever crazy metaphor you wacky kids are using nowadays.

EDIT: Ah, and if you were curious what they meant about the difficulty achieving CHIM, it is basically realizing you are a part of everything, all of the world basically the godhead's dream, and still being able to retain your individaulity, most commonly expressed when people reatin the ability to say "I". I don't know what happens if they lose their individuality, but I assume it 'tis bad. Once again, I know I'm wrong, but that's just my hazy misguided interpretation based on what I've read here.

:whisper: These folks aren't the most helpful anyway :whisper:

Kidding, I don't know where I'd be without the wonderfully helpful lore forum and its inhabitants :D Cheers!

oh. I get it, man. So, like, as a human being I can't not see the inside of the fridge. But if I, like, open the fridge door then... http://wdpk837.whoisbenhustis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/neo_whoa_1.png

Mirander made an easy to understand point regarding CHIM in my http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=1060305&view=findpost&p=15423301 thread.

But why is it difficult to realize this? What if I, Tes96, went to freakin Tamriel and knew what I know now from all you guys' knowledge and said, "yes, I, Tes96, do solemly swear or affirm that I am my own individual person within this dream reality in the head of a God who is unable to awaken." Really, why is it so hard to realize CHIM? If an NPC went up to Vedaa (my character) and said to her this stuff that you guys are saying to me, then like, why is it so hard to believe? I see no difficulty in that at all. I believe it. So why can't anybody else?
