What does a druid do in vanilla Skyrim?!

Post » Thu Jan 01, 2015 7:14 pm

So I don't mean to toot my own horn, but i made the perfect Druid for vanilla Skyrim recently. (toot-toot)

That being said, I've reached an awkward stopping point... What does my druid do?

I want to play the stereotypical druid who worships and loves nature in a holly manner. He shuns society, and anything else that in its self is anti-natural (including the spread of society, which would further pollute his mother-nirn). He doesn't use any metal (though I RP that the tips of his arrows are stone), and any time he is forced to kill an animal he MUST use something he gathers from it for some purpose (food, cloth, armor, potions, poisons, etc)

The perfect druid.

but how to RP him? What does he do?

Most people would simply just live out in the nature with this character, and face what perils comes their way, and yada-yada-yada... The problem with this style is that there isn't a lot of action and combat involved, and I have this nasty habit of quickly losing interest in my characters if there isn't enough action and combat involved.

So how do I RP this Druid in a fashion that I will still maintain interest?! I've been thinking, maybe a Druid who takes his views to an extremist/radical point, but even then, I'm not sure what to do?

HELP ME! PLEASE!!!

It does seem that it could be a bit limited. For sure, I'd imagine such a character would take harsh exception to mammoth poachers and actively hunt them down.

If you're a bit flexible, some other possibilities could be:

The Kynareth quest to fix that tree.

Although there are certainly druidic aspects to the Forsworn, I'd find it very easy to take great umbrage to the way they mutilate animals simply for decoration. Enough to become a Forsworn slayer? That could keep one busy.

Straying even further afield, I can see a druid as a 'support' character. They were often used like a cleric or ranger in D&D. This gets into going beyond defining the character simply as a druid. What is the nature of their character? If they are a 'good' character, they might well join with other adventurers on noble causes. That is, take on a follower and pretend that you are their sidekick/scout and your woods/fieldcraft can come in handy.

Just some rambling ideas, but maybe something of use?

He might abhor any undead or werewolves or daedra (and those who summon them). Giant rats and spiders might also be considered unnatural creatures once created by evil mages as were hargravens, wisps, ice wraiths and possibly spriggans. Dwarven automated creatures might also be unnatural. Plenty to seek out and destroy. A druid might also protect farmers from bandits.

If you're on PC, download the Nature spell pack, both Wrath of Nature mods and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53124/?.

I thought of taking the Kynareth tree quest, but it would be against his RP to simply even foot into a city, He'd more likely kill everyone in there before helping them out.

The idea of being a forsworn hunter, is phenomenal, I will definitely do this.

I actually made this character a Werewolf. Its his way of being so close to nature that he can turn half-wolf, it's his way of taking the form of an animal.

I'm having a massive brain fart about the name, but the quest where you kill the spectral animals. That is like a spirit quest, RP it like it he is absorbing the strengths of each animal to become more like them.

Of course you need to get the Kynes Peace & Animal allegiance. Detect life & Detect dead. Perhaps some of the Dawnguard sun spells, as those would work I think.

You could be "on Patrol" for "un-natural" forces, which would also include necromancers, vampires, any Deadra of course. He wouldn't be happy with skeletons walking around or Draugr. Meaning clearing out any fort's or dungeons that you know have those type of things in them.
