What does the new Elder Scrolls Installment need?

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:36 am

I believe Morrowind and Oblivion were both truely amazing video games. But I admit they could have been better, any game could be better. Here is what I believe Elder Scrolls V needs... First I think there should be more Guilds and groups to join. Instead of just the normal Mages Guild, etc. Also the possibility to create your own guild and recruit members, etc. For example, you could select your theme of the guild (asassin, hero, etc) and recruit members with essential roles to the guild. You could then purchase weapons and armor for the guild and then do what your clan is initated to do.Also possibly have some online friends also work and support your clan in their game. Similar to a Clan. While on teh topic of guilds.. I believe the Guilds should have more quests, also the quests should feel more satisying. For example, The Dark Brotherhood was my absolutely favorite guild in Oblivion, I believe instead of just going through a few assassination missions. There should be more to it then that. Maybe you have to watch the target for a few days, get his routine down, then maybe follow him home and when he is asleep assassinate him. I just want longer, more challenging quests. Also I believe there should be more sylish kills. Instead of just hacking and slashing until your foes health runs out, make it more interesting, chain together a combo. Maybe cut his arm that the sword is in off, decapitate him, make him blind by shooting his eye out with a arrow. Just more stylish complex ways of killing. Also make the foe look like there crippled, maybe limp a bit, or pay you money for giving mercy on them. More secret off journal quests and easter eggs. I love secrets, I dont like just knowing where everything is. Oblivion and Morrowing had some off journal quests, but not enough. Make that random civilian in town be worth talking to you, have your player go off on some adventure off topic from main storyline. Morrowind had a huge variety of weapons and armor, please bring that huge variety plus more back n Elder Scrolls V. A final word is what I have been hoping for. Please make it online 4 player co op. Similar to in Borderlands where you and 3 friends can venture out and explore as well as do quests.

Ummm those are things we want but that is what every rpg game should have. Be realistic now they can not fit all that in this game.

From your list, more extensive guilds, and more weapons and armour (ie break the classes down again instead of things like "blade" and "blunt").

I'd prioritise more extensive guilds (over what they had in Oblivion).

True, but with co op, Borderlands did that. Also I believe maybe within 2 discs Elder Scrolls V could hold this ammount of awsomness.

Except CoOp?!? I have been dying to play Oblivion CoOp. Imagine going on some great off Journal Dragon Slaying quest with 3 of your friends.

  • More Extensive Guilds and Guild Quests
  • Stylish ways in which to kill or mame your opposition.
  • More Secret Off Journal Quests and Easter Eggs
  • Ability to design your own house
  • More Weapons and Armor

All of those would make me happy. Also, more dialog options.

Bethesda cant reasonably include all the above stated features, however, a good number of them are do-able and IMO would add to the overall greatness of the game. One of the things I loved about Bloodmoon was the ablility to "design" and "construct" a house. I dont know why this feature wasnt expanded upon in TES4; it was completely removed. And whats the point of having tons of cool armor, relics and other goodies if you cant decorate your house with them? Which brings up the point of more decoration, materials, weapons, etc.

lol and no, the previous drag and drop decorating method isnt good enough. Its twitchy. Everytime Id come back to my lair, my stuff would drop from being suspended in the air and make a mess.

I think the best thing would be to make guilds more interesting. I could become the archmage too easily.

I say "all of the above", EXCEPT for four-player co-op. I think a multiplayer component would be nice, but it doesn't necessarily have to be co-op. It could just be in the form of stat comparisons or something.

I will always remember talking to some imperial dude in Seyda Neen's trade center, whom I asked him about rumours and he told me how some fools have lost an important ring (an artifact) somewhere along the Bitter Coast. I then decided to investigate, and in some tomb, what did I found? The damned ring! Highly satisfying. There should be more than this. And please, no quest pop-up for such thing, keep it obscure, keep it that way so real explorers will be rewarded. (anyone could still check up on the internet anyway) Oblivion severely missed some sweet artifact hunting too.

Oh, and more guilds and factions obviously. I just love how everything was in Morrowind. I mean, you were a mage (joined the Mages Guild), and when needing to join a Great House, you go for the obvious Telvanni wizards and got surprised to see they actually hated you for being in the Mages Guild. And that can be understandable to some point, as Great Houses are deeply tied with Morrowind's religions and politics as may be at competition. They may not like a guild who accepts any random strangers who don't care about Morrowind, a lot of Dunmers were xenophobic. Then there was the dubious House Hlalu who actually made you steal from House Redoran, there were a lot of politics and such. The Mages Guild arch-mage was corrupt, there were non trustable people working in the Fighters Guild, the Morag Tong was a government sanctioned assassins guild, etc.

You could really play a certain character without feeling like missing something when not doing every single guild quest. You could be a healer, working for the Mages Guild, House Telvanni and the Imperial Cult, or just a normal mage, working for the MG, HT and the Morag Tong. You could be a warrior, working for the Fighters Guild, House Redoran, Imperial Legion and the Morag Tong. Or if you didn't feel like investing in a dubious group, even if government sanctioned, you could forget the Morag Tong altogether. You could be a sneak, working for the Thieves guild, House Hlalu and the Morag Tong. And each guild had a lot of quests and more going on than simply doing quests. Oh, and that's forgetting all 3 vampire clans.

I'm a big fan of the guilds I replayed the game 5 times and didn't complete the Main quest just to play them again I wouldn't say more guilds but more quests and so on for example in Oblivion I really wanted to be able to see the over sanctuaries (Downloaded a couple of mods not really groundbreaking)

I personally would enjoy more clutter.
Artifacts, weapons, armor, statues, little useless things.
I would like it if everytime I came upon a bandit, he would have something different on then the last, a different sword.
Instead of having the level system work with just one set of armor and weapon, maybe have a multitude.
Also, more elaborate NPC AI. I want to see someone pickpocket someone else, get into an argument, possibly go on missions together without you even consenting them.
They could retrieve artifacts, have them stolen, get in fights, rank through guilds.
That kinda thing.

1. An economy with at least as much complexity as X3 Terran conflict
2. All goods must be produced somewhere, rather than a merchants chest respawning. So the Blacksmith must make new weapons, food must be grown, etc.
3. It should be possible to either buy or build one's own production methods, so that you can take part in the economy.
4. Killing blacksmiths, farmers, burning down production facilities, should reduce or stop an area's production of the goods they make. So killing all the workers at a production facility stops work from happening, so does destroying it.
5. let me murder everyone.
6. an equipment crafting skill.
7. cats shouls be evil, it makes them all the more wuvable.
8. npcs should have memories. Think Sims 2.

Toilets.

When I arrived in Vvardenfell and saw the bucket in the corner of the room, I thought, "You gotta be kidding me!"

(I voted the house one.)

All of the above - except for CoOp and guild creating options! Regarding the "Stylish ways in which to kill or mame your opposition" option, I'd also like to see more ways for me (the character), to get killed. If I get pierced by spikes or spears I'd like to see a proper animation of a spear passing through my torso, instead of just getting hit and my body starting to act like a lifeless doll.

What it really, really needs is teleportation and levitation.

And also a lot of the skills left out of oblivion that were present in Morrowind, such as short blade and enchanting.

And what it needs to leave Out is the complete randomness of loot and rigid NPC levelling system found in oblivion.
