What does the term "OOO" mean?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:44 am

It may be because I'm a newbie on these forums (not a newbie to playing though), it could be the fact that I play on PS3 and have no playing experience on pc, or it could be because I'm not too bright ... hoping its not the last one :P

Anyway I have seen the term OOO used in conversations involving the PC game. What in the h3ll does this mean?! Is it a mod or something? Please enlighten me on the topic somebody.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. Completely changes how you play Oblivion. Enemies are no longer leveled with you and neither is the loot. Highly recommended.

Leveling (both of enemies and loot) continues to occur in OOO. Scaling is present in OOO also. It is just handled differently.

What's scaling?

Oblivion uses four systems to determine how and when certain things happen. These four systems are:

Loot Leveling - this controls when loot appears
Enemy Leveling - this controls when enemies appear
Loot Scaling - this controls the strength of loot once it has appeared
Enemy Scaling - this controls the strength of enemies once they have appeared

There are a few enemies (not many) that gain levels as the player gains levels. There are also a few quest items in the game that are stronger if you finish those quests at a higher level. These are examples of scaling.

Thank you. This explains a lot.

Sounds cool. Does it work with existing save games? Cause I don't want to have to start over again =/

It should do, I played around on it before starting fresh with a new character a while back and had no issues, as the newer versions come with a saved game updater.

Ya I've figured that out. But its not as drastically consistent across the board.

Make sure you follow the update instruction in OOO when adding to existing game (save game). You have to update NPC levels using Wrye Bash.

There's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:Acronyms UESP page but it's a mere sampling and somewhat out of date. Would have helped the OP though :)
