What does This Machine look like in real life?

Post » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:07 am

The weapon This Machine reminds me of a weapon used in the Resource Wars (Wiki :P), but I don't know which one.. Does anyone know what gun it is? It'll be appreciated :)

M1 grand by far. Heck they should have even just called it that since they stole so much off it. Except that This machine is full auto and the M1 grand isnt.

You must be runnnin' mods. My This Machine is the semi-auto gas operated rifle the M1 always was. And point of order: In the geck, the uniques are named like this: Oh Baby! is named "WeapSuperSledgeUnique". This Machine is named "WeapNVBattleRifleUnique".

-Gunny out.

It's the gun the Nazis fear, the gun that makes the Japs shed a tear, the gun that makes the Italians disappear, it's the M1 Garand.

It's too bad they couldn't have just called it by its real name, 'M1 Garand'... or anything but 'battle rifle'. That just sounds cheesy and infantile... about like calling it a 'war gun' :shakehead:

My Two Cents: The Names comes from a song writer (I don't remember his name) who wrote "This machine kills fascists on his guitar. Or he named an album after that. Supposedly that was inspired by what was written on the side of planes during the Spanish Civil War.

The M1 garand. 8 round clip with that legendary "ping" noise when the clip ejects.

And no, the m1 garand does no use a stripper clip.

A stripper clip is where bullets are lined up sideways on top of each other from a single strip. The Mosin Nagant uses a stripper clip. The m1 garand does not.

had to get that off my chest*)

Wait, so there were supposed to be Battle Rifles in the game from the start? I would have loved that, even more so if the Rangers and Ranger Vets had those Battle Rifles (I guess an M14 model would be appropriate, seeing as it fires .308). I always though the Caesar's Legion Centurions would have been better with Brush Guns and Trail Carbines.

I agree with that...Mg34,Mg42,MP44,Mp40, Luger, Walther P38, Gewer, and of course Kar98k. All good reliable pieces of German engineering.

It's the M1, a common infantry rifle used in world war 2. The name, This Machine came from Woody Guthrie and his guitar.

Here's a link to the picture. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/Woody_Guthrie_2.jpg

Interesting. I'm a fair amateur military historian myself, yet had never heard the term, at least that I can remember. Probably because of this (from that article you linked): "The term battle rifle is not defined or frequently used in military field manuals and government documents. There are some government requisition documents that do make mention of a specific rifle as a battle rifle, but those documents may simply be using the manufacturer's marketing name (similar to how Springfield Armory's M14 clone is trademarked as the M1A). Because of this issue, deciding what exact characteristics of a rifle should make it a battle rifle are a matter of contention." I've heard soldiers call them 'rifles' a billion times, but never a 'battle rifle'. I'm betting it's a relatively obscure definitive that is seldom used in general conversation.
