What does your character(s) call home?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:51 am

As I am downloading a new House mod, in the form of a Dwemer Skyship, i thought, Hmm i wonder what my fellow forum goer's characters call home? And thus, the thread was born.
Well Most recently, my characters haven't been around enough to even have homes, The last character I had with a home was my Lich, and he took over Castle Skingrad.

Rythe Arano spends his time between Rosethorn Hall and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14714
Dar-R' Jaar is currently living in the Waterfront's abandoned house while he saves up for a house, or enough to rent a room at a hotel on a nightly basis. (Or a weekly... mod idea!)
Abel lives in a house outside Anvil, which I modded in.

At the beginning of her game, Buffy moved from the upstairs of Nilawen's shop (before Nordinor arrived) when she was finally old enough to enter and move into the Bravil guild of mages (plenty of storage and beds). While studying at the Arcane University, she lived in the Chironasium, with its two beds and nine safe containers. She now owns a small house in Bravil, but honestly these days pretty much lives on the road.

It sounds odd, but we find that the longer we play, the less 'stuff' she needs to carry (except for lots and lots of clothes) and the more she likes to travel.

Any truly legendary artifacts she finds get donated for display at the Arcane University.

We find that two sets of saddlebags for her precious black mare, a bag of holding and another small bag that came with her portable campsite - all to help oraganize her clothes - is really about all she needs for carrying stuff. She sleeps in her own portable campsite or inn while traveling, and stays at the local mages guild hall or University if visiting the different cities.

The way the game is put together, I'd imagine most characters are going to find the same thing. An Oblivion character has a house (or more) as a place to dump stuff they don't want to sell, or maybe as a private enchanting/spellmaking location, if they haven't joined the Mages Guild. They don't actually LIVE there, they're out travelling on quests all the time.

Even with Fast Travel to the doorstep, my characters don't go "home" very often.

That said, I do try to find each one a main residence that fits their style. There are a lot of character-specific house mods over at http://oblivionsrealestate.com/

My characters usually take the pirate ship as a home after dealing with those annoying pirates.

I use mostly mod-added homes. The vanilla ones are a bit too blah for the over-the-top luxurious taste of myself and my characters. :P They want unique homes.

Calacirya has her wonderful Ayleid ruin, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10424, Ezra is living in the Mushroomtop House by Whitewizard of ORE for the time being, as she is currently exploring the Shivering Isles (she stays at the house in Leyawiin while in Cyrodiil, until able to find a more suitable home for herself), and Soraya is living at the Imperial City Waterfront shack from the vanilla game, due to the easy access to the Arcane University where she is currently studying.

Helena Aurelie doesn't live anywhere yet, as she's not far enough in to have found somewhere to call home. So she sleeps in Inns, wherever she goes.

Since I just started the game, hotels in random towns are what I've been sleeping in.

Demetris and Ren are currently residing at Arborwatch in Chorrol,
but nothing beats setting up a campsite surrounded by several ruins to raid.
It's a much better way to spend 2-3 game days than sloping around Chorrol.

Most of my characters prefer to live in Shadowcrest Vineyard by Korana. Central location in the game, room for a companion, works for good and evil characters. Buster does hate being fenced in the stables though.

See, this is why Buffy likes to travel so much. So she can visit wonderful friends spread all over Cyrodiil, like Lothran in his wonderful (but chilly) city of Bruma. :twirl:

Dante will (I haven't finished the quest yet) soon be living in the town of Coldstone, in the Dark Tower.

Jangle-Tail has a house in his hometown of Bravil, and has a shack on the Imperial Waterfront where he conducts business for the Thieves Guild. It's mostly full of stolen goods waiting to be fenced, and alchemy stuff to make poisons and whatnot. He also bought the house in Leyawiin, which RP-wise was the house his parents lived in before he was born. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it, as I'm almost never in Leyawiin and J-T doesn't like the atmosphere there. He'd like to have a place in Chorrol though. It's nice there. Friendly people. Clean streets. Stunning vistas. Lots of expensive-looking stuff in peoples houses...

I usually only get the Waterfront house for safe storage purposes if I'm just playing a random character. I never need to sleep aside from leveling, and those characters are a part of every guild so that's no trouble.

Daza originally lived in the Bruma residence before he accidentally removed all it's furniture. He was quite comfortable in it and found it quite cozy.

After the little incident of turning the bruma house bare he decided it was time for a bit of an upgrade and went to skingrad and bought rosethorn hall. Whilst it doesn't have the cozy, warm feeling of Bruma it does have a very nice air to it and he likes living there. Skingrad also is his favourite city which is an added bonus and he is in the process of slowly decorating each room to his tastes

Bohwynn Arreaux has a house right down the road from Pell's Gate. A mod that I made myself for role play purposes. It is available on the Nexus (Laesea House).

The house you buy in Cheydinhal. Two stories, but not too big. Not that my character stays at home a lot, but it definitely feels like home.

My characters usually use the Wizard's Tower as home base. That said, they only really go there is there are items to be dropped off, or a new spell/enchantment/potions are needed.

In the beginning, my characters lived in the waterfront shack. My later characters used the Marie Elena. After that, the Skingrad house became the housing goal. But eventually, that proved to be just too much house.

These days, they live out of the stump in the Market District, until they can afford the Bruma house. The layout is nice and the storage is just right. Lovely to walk out your door and see snow falling. The only downside is there is no fire in the fireplace, so my chracters have to throw lit torches into it. Oh well. I guess it beats chopping and hauling wood!

Decimus, my mercenary, lives in the Ancient Towers WAY out east, isolated from the cities. So he has a home away from home in Skingrad and usually stays there but all of his spare armor and weapons are in the Ancient Towers. So think of the Ancient Towers as a holiday home.

My Nord character has two houses now. His Dwemer Skyship, and a small sailboat. The skyship houses all of his weaponry he isn't planning on using for the time being, among other supplies, while the boat holds stuff he will use soon. And they both can be piloted, which is a sweet bonus.
