What if I don't want to be the Dragonborn?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:11 pm

Considering "DragonBORN", I think you're past the point of choosing by the time the game starts.

Yup, even as a baby you can't decide as you are already born into the world. :P

I think it will probably be similar to Oblivion, you have to start the main quest for Oblivion gates to open. So you will have to start investigating the rise of Alduin or whatever before any dragons pop up.

Well.. so sorry, if you don t want to be the dragonborn, the world won t end and, dragons will appear to bother you until your fed up with the game and, if you have still any pacience, you ll complete it just for the sake of finally being able to shelve it until modders kick in doing the job that should have been done since the beginning.

Exactly like in Oblivion.
In earlyer title you could ignore it, but since OB it seems they are decided to hammer it on you.

Uh... no, not really. You can ignore the main quest in Oblivion just as effectively as in past titles.

Real answer. Buy on PC, mod game, freeze main quest permanently and remove any dialogue that refers to you as Dragonborn.

You don't have to be, but it helps accentuate the experience. But to be honest...come on man, why would you not want to be dragonborn? They can conjure dragon shouts using an exotic language, single handedly defeat even the most powerful dragons, and must go through 7000 epic steps to be trained by the most badass group of old guys Tamriel has ever seen. In short: A Dragonborn is the Bruce Lee of the lore: sounds, acts, looks, and fights in epic proportions.

In my opinion, if you aren't playing as the Dragonborn, you're not really playing to Skyrim's full potential. The same principle goes somewhat with Morrowind.

Hold the reins man, assume your role as Dragonborn. :toughninja:

Or pretend some other quest is the main quest.

Well, if I don't want to be a powerful plumber killing turtles and snagging mushrooms I don't play Mario games.

If I don't want to be Gordon Freeman, I don't play Half-Life games.

So logically, if I don't want to be the dragonborn...

This.

Pshh! Saving the galaxy from a reaper invasion?! [censored] that. Sounds like work. I guess I'll not play Mass Effect.

I guess you could just ignore the main quest but... Seriously?

Because maybe thats not who his character is. Few of my characters will be Dragonborn, or go through the main quest.

Roleplay. After the starter quest the game requires, denounce the mission given to you, pretend they have the wrong person, and roleplay that you are someone else. TES games are one of the only ones that actually allow this to a reasonable degree.

I guess the same as if you don't want to be Nerevar. Don't do the main quest.
Then again, even if you didn't want to do the main quest, you still are the Nerevar. Just no one knows about you.

Not really you became the Nerevar by completing the prophecy.

Pretty much. LOL at the people saying "Dont buy it then."

I guess it depends if you're told you're dragonborn at the start of the game.It would be great if you're not, so you can decide.

Or you could always pretend that whoever tells you was wrong. :P

I kind of wish we had multiple options for the main quest. As much as this game is open-ended the story is actually very linear. You can decide how you're doing something but the end result is the same. However, the story in TES V is something I think I'm really going to embrace and get into.

it depends on how the game plays. if they make my guy into some super mega uber killing machine then i wont do the main quest more than a couple of times. i hate games like that. ill go play assassins creed if i want to play a game where its impossible to die. if however the journey is a constant struggle and the dragons are very hard to kill (preferably only killable using those dragon shout thingies) then i wont mind it. some people like having their characters become practically invincible which just boggles my mind. might as well just use god mode while your at it...........not much of a difference.
