I guess the same as if you don't want to be Nerevar. Don't do the main quest.
Then again, even if you didn't want to do the main quest, you still are the Nerevar. Just no one knows about you.

Just don't do the main quest?

Though... you may have to fight an occasional dragon, maybe?

The only correct answer I can give is "Then don't play Skyrim" :P You probably won't be forced to do the main quests so you can just denounce that you were ever named dragonborn and play accordingly.

i think that the dragon's will be like oblivion gates. They'll only appear after a certain point in the main quest.

Depends on when the dragons start attacking, I guess. I hope it's like in Oblivion where gates didn't start popping up before you'd gotten a bit into the main quest -- then you could hop around in a not totally wrecked countryside pretending the Oblivion crisis never happened. (it wasn't very visible when it did happen, though... except maybe for Kvatch - but hey, who cares 'bout Kvatch?)

You can always be the emo hero who regrets his mission and goes about it miserably, hating life despite his super powers...

Considering "DragonBORN", I think you're past the point of choosing by the time the game starts.

Then don't do the main quest and don't roleplay as the Dragonborn, I guess.

Don't do the Main Quest. Very few of my characters do/did, in any of the ES games.

Well, if I don't want to be a powerful plumber killing turtles and snagging mushrooms I don't play Mario games.

If I don't want to be Gordon Freeman, I don't play Half-Life games.

So logically, if I don't want to be the dragonborn...

Well.. so sorry, if you don t want to be the dragonborn, the world won t end and, dragons will appear to bother you until your fed up with the game and, if you have still any pacience, you ll complete it just for the sake of finally being able to shelve it until modders kick in doing the job that should have been done since the beginning.

Exactly like in Oblivion.
In earlyer title you could ignore it, but since OB it seems they are decided to hammer it on you.
