Usually in FPS games they are called "Bots" but in RPG's they are known as NPC's. The difference is minor. Most bots have their own AI controlling what they do while most NPC's have an AI shared over many individuals. Could be wrong though

Yes it applies to any person at least with their own story and maner.
A deathclaw / rad scorpion / cazador is not a NPC unless it has dialogue ( at least talks ) and interacts with others in a non agressive way.
So they are critters or monsters, but ED-E and Rex could be by a loose defination be called NPC's as they show both intelligence and dialogue.

To be fair, critters are technically NPC's as well.

True, I just can't personally see them as NPC's myself.
It's one of those things that "to each his own" applies I guess, I could argue I'm right that critters have allways and will allways be cannon fodder.
Not something actually relevent, but many here have reacted to coyote den mothers and their cubs as if they were real characters with stories, so I quess you're right on this.

Perhaps but the term is usually reserved for human or human-like characters.
While critters are simply called monsters, critters etc.
