What if Elder Scrolls was no more?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:17 pm

I would be pretty bummed out.

I never replayed any game with two exceptions Oblivion and Morrowind. I just love the big open free world where I can decide where I go. So what I've played the games 50+ times? I just go "insert random direction here" and I'm bound to come across something I haven't before.

All great things come to an end eventually. Bethesda has given the template and raised the benchmark. Other games will come along to fill the void and continue the TES legacy. I think that open worlds and freedom of choice is the future of gaming, and I'm optimistic.

I'm getting worried that this "unknown" project will not be an ES game, but instead be some other kind of brand new series; maybe a new RPG game or some new adventure game by Beth.

I'm not sure this would bother me too much -- Yes, we all love TES, but we also know that Beth's an awesome game developer, so they could make us another awesome series that we'd love just as much (?)... but I don't think this will happen. TES's still got a lot of potential, and I don't think we'll live to see the end of the series. No matter what happens, it will live on in our hearts and evolve through our construction kits.

But what if the "other" project (not necessarily the first one) is another open world RPG? Would that just be a waste of time, since they've already got such a game series, or could it become the next big thing? Would it draw too much resources away from TES production? Would it take too much time to develop to be feasible (since they're starting from scratch - lore, gameworld, everything) ?

And most important of all: how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I said it b4 and I will say it again, no other game would have pulled me into the gaming world had it not been for elderscrolls my last video game would have been Dragon slayer the last game I played wayyyyy back in the 80's just b4 I went into the service, but when i saw my buddy playing Daggerfall and showed me an open world RPG ... I was sold ! Here was a game that had so much replayability it was almost sad... and considering the fact that as a sailor who can consume a hefty book in mere hrs I consider each video game I buy as an investment, and I have never been disapointed by bethesda yet be it TES or fallout series recently.. each one is like a piece of home since I know them and the locations in the games better then my own hometown that I never see.. I read every book in game and role play every charecter as they should be played if you a true rpg'er... my kids love em and so I actually have something to talk about with my kids that relates (this is hard to do for a sailor of 42 yrs of age who spends 9-10 months a yr on a ship with little to no contact with home and been doing this for 15 yrs) so I personally would be devistated to lose TES as an entity... but thats just me.

I would be filled with sorrow and in shock. I'd also be mad but eventually move on.
