What if Elder Scrolls was no more?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:04 am

*Note: This is not real, just a scenario.*

Bethesda just announced that they would no longer continue the Elder Scrolls series, and would end the storyline in the sequel to Infernal City.

What would you do? What would you say? What feelings go through you? Who do you kill? What would you do for a klondike bar? What games would you revert to, if any?

Curious what die-hard elder scrolls fans would do if the series ended this abruptly.

Nerd rage, followed by nerd sorrow, followed by making a TES fan-game.

Can't really see this happening IRL to be honest, gamesas makes too much money off of it.

Yet, if it was to actually happen... move on.

The series would still live on through it's healthy and devoted community (here). But i see no reason why this series cant keep going and going like final fantasy. I cant picture elder scrolls dying.

Same here, except "Storm the Bethesda HQ with legions of fellow fans, armed with pitchforks and torches." Which would subsequently be followed by "Arrested, and charged with breaking and entering, inciting a riot, damage to private property, and hostage taking."

After that, i'd move on with my life...

My first reaction would probably be a mix of shock that Bethesda would end the series while it still has a devoted fanbase and has proven commercially successful enough to make further games profitable, and great displeasure at not getting another Elder Scrolls game when I've wanted one for quite some time now, but once that was over with, I'd go on with my life, and play other games, it's not like the Elder Scrolls series is the only game series I'm interested in, it's just the one I currently hope for a sequel to the most.

Square announched that FF14 (another MMO) would be the Final Final Fantasy (about damned time)... at least for a while. Can't say that I blame them. It seemed like every other year they were releasing another Final Fantasy for a while there, they're probably burned out on it.

:swear:

Oh, well. Next game.

But I would probably actually start working on my own elder scrolls games, which would probably never get finished anyways lol.

I would probably go like "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!". Then, I'd be angry. And after that, I'd play some old TES games etc.

They'd get a very angry letter. And if they didn't reply within 7 days, I'd throw a rock through their window with a note attached saying "I told you I'd do it!" Then I may throw firecrackers at them.

... Or I may just play Fallout 117. :whistling:

To be honest, I would think and hope that the modding community for Morrowind and Oblivion gets larger to the point of having a few different Dev Groups working on creating new thought out land with quest lines and side quests that are more developed than the current ones. Pretty much like creating a new game, but just still based on the base games engine. You can change even the AI-system in Oblivion, can't you?

If you killed them there would be no chance of them changing their mind.

And besides, haven't any of you ever heard of April Fool's Day?! :swear:

I'd be sad for a bit, but then I'd just move on. I'd probably also get both MW and OB for PC so I can use mods.

 If Bethesda drops their open-world games then somebody else will pick it up now that the biggest competition's out of the way.

I hate to think of it that way, because I love TES, but if it happened we'd probably get tons of new Open-World Fantasy RPGs flying at us, and each one would be trying to take Bethesda's position as the leading Open-World Fantasy RPG creators.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes "The Younger Scrolls" series.

Bethesda makes really good games, so that would be a shame. Since Bethesda has clearly demonstrated their capacity and intent to produce really good games, I'd like to see them continue to do so for as long as they maintain that trajectory.

But if Bethesda were to drop the ball, I'm sure some other developer/publisher could step up and fill the gap that it would create in the gaming market. That is the beauty of a largely open world market; one firms foolish business decision is just another firms chance to capitalize on a gold opportunity.
