What do electric generators run on?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:41 pm

If we need generators to power all the electric equipment in a settlement. Does that mean that fuel will be a major scavenging issue or do you think the game will let you run these generators on fresh air?
Thoughts?

I'm guessing the generator will be complicated to make, but I doubt you'll have to keep refueling them.

It seemed like they don't need fuel in the gameplay trailer so I want to say no.

The tears of the many fans who despise certain aspects of the game. But I would assume as lefty said, Fission batteries or some nuclear fuel. Whichever the case I doubt we'll need to do refueling runs.

Probably fission batteries.

In the previous games you could see them sometimes used to power electrical appliances like lights etc. They are limited in supply however and after 200 years of non-production on the way out.

Few if any factions have both the knowledge and ability to produce new ones - the NCR for example lacks a lot of high tech knowledge, in no small part due to the BOS doing their very best to keep it away from them.

Which is why the dam in New Vegas was so vital - a huge power plant that the NCR had sufficient knowledge to operate and maintain. Helios One on the other hand was out of their league, demonstrated by them going from house to house to find someone knowledgeable and ending up with a fake.

Oil was on it's last dregs, hence the wars of the past and even if the remaining oil would last much longer considering the vastly reduced number of consumers - it's unlikely anyone has the skill, tech and drive to go for it.

I'm hoping FO4 addresses this issue, as access to energy should be one of the first and most vital steps to get back to civilized times.

As soon as he's old enough, I'm putting Shaun to work pedaling a stationary bicycle that generates electricity.

It'll probably run on fission batteries which you really won't need to replace until every other century or so.

Or if you can't find any fission batteries maybe some MF cells or hamsters will provide an alternative source of energy.

Likely Batteries and maybe solar power. Flamer Fuel might also be an option.

It sounded like a diesel engine, very noisy. Maybe that's what attracts the raiders to attack your settlements. I'd be surprised if you had to replete them with fuel every so often.

It's one of those things in the FO universe that doesn't make sense under scrutiny. The generators sound like internal combustion engines, but petroleum-derived fuel is just about non-existent, thus the nuclear cars and fission batteries everywhere.

It seems silly to use a battery to somehow drive a motor in order to generate electricity--must be Science!

Fission batteries
Microfusion cells
People know how to make moonshine, so ethanol isn't far fetched.

Indeed, I hope so, too (hell: I am hoping for options when it comes to powering your settlement...I don't much like those loud diesel-generator look-a-likes...I'd want some nuclear power (I mean everything in Fallout pretty much runs on that...from Powered Armor to weapons to cars and entire vaults etc.))

greetings LAX

They run on the souls of my defeated enemies!

I was looking at the E3 footage and they don't seem to run on anything actually. Maybe we have to collect fuel somehow.

Something something microfusion something something solar fission something.

Really though I think their fuel is suspension of disbelief.

Maybe they run on air! There are engines that run on water. Maybe these use water from the moisture in the air. Sure, it's a stretch, but I've seen weirder things in Fallout.

It's crazy that these aren't being used more - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_engine

Isn't it obvious? they run on IMAGINATION the most powerful fuel source in the world.. you never run out of it.

I figured they ran on Microfusion cells.

At the least, that's what the Highwayman in Fallout 2 was fueled by, so that's my reference.
