What ending of Fallout 4 will Bethesda make cannon?

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 10:37 am

Please note:- If you haven't finished the game and are reading this, What are you doing here? Would you please go and finnish the game first then come back here. I don't want you to spoil the game for yourself.

I was watching a video that Youtuber MrMattyPlays posted sometime last week. He was talking about what ending will be cannon to the entire lore of Fallout. The endings are as confusing as anything.

The link is to the video that the aformetioned MrMattyPlays video relates to. So what are your thoughts on what ending will be cannon.

Either minutemen, BoS or Institute would be nice in my opinion. Preferably a BoS-Minutemen ending.

Probably none but if they do canonize a ending i think it would be the BOS one.

I don't want it to be the Railroad, because, what's the point.

I would like it to be either BOS or Institute. But with the Institute, Bethesda would somehow have to deal with an over powered faction. What with their ability to manufacture teleporting super troops.

I suspect the canon ending will be Minutemen, with BOS and Railroad alive.

I think it'd be a Minutemen-BoS ending (Minutemen win, BoS remains alive) if they have to canonize an ending.

It is impossible not to canonize an ending, if only because it affects the future of the BoS, the force that expands throughout the East Coast USA (and which is so popular and iconic that literally no Fallout can go without them having at least some role).

The Institute would only be OP inside the Commonwealth as it is doubtful they could teleport their troops too far. Also, BoS would not let them rest and the two factions would likely fight one another in the other regions of East Coast, and the power-armored soldiers trained since birth are far superior to Synths so this would balance they tried spreading out of the Commonwealth.

If MM ending becomes canon, you can bet that that "With Our Powers Combined" will be canonized as well (of course, this won'tr kill BoS because they are based in Washington, not in Boston).

Yea despite the fact the Institute can make more synths the BoS is still better equipped and has a central area they can draw forces with.

Eh, I don't know. I can see the Minutemen and the BoS getting along. The BoS generally doesn't do anything to settlements, they protect trade caravans, they go on the offensive against raider hide-outs, super mutant lairs and feral dens. I can see the Minutemen having a problem with the BoS if the BoS starts a witch hunt for Gen-3 synths but idk that just seems to costly and could take too much time.

I can see the Minutemen and BoS having an alliance, albeit an uneasy one, but an alliance nonetheless.

Or at least a 'stay out of each other's way'. Which I'm sure plenty of BoS Knights would cockily phrase as 'stay out of OUR way', but in the end they don't even have the same scope of operation. Minutemen defend settlements and the BoS proactively raids locations of those who would threaten human civilization.

Yea and there really isn't much to say that the BoS forces are anything more then an expeditionary force looking for tech, protect the people and take out the commonwealth. Honestly? I don't really buy the idea that they're there to take over.

I'd be fine with either Institute or Railroad, for multiple reasons, its their war, its their land, for however different they're, they'd be both looking promising and fitting.

No Bos and no Minuteman please, overly cliched to my tastes.

A maxson empire stretching over a third of the eastern coast would be reasonably too much in terms of screwing over with the faction balance of the whole story.

Minuteman are just.... one man army, their ending would be the less preferable, given how the whole faction its structured and presented, they've given up once already in protecting peoples and land, they're highly likely to do it again once the Sole Survivor's gone.

I really doubt this for two reasons. First, destroying the Prydwen would still destroy a major part of the East Coast BoS as well as all of their power projection ability so they'd be stuck in the Capital Wasteland and won't be able to appear in the next Fallout game unless it's set either at the Capital Wasteland or very close to it. Second, "With Our Powers Combined" just feels like an Easter Egg more than anything. You can't even get that mission unless you go out of your way to antagonize the BoS and the interests of these two groups don't conflict at all. Personally, I see a bigger chance (however slight) of a conflict between the Minutemen and the Railroad due to the large numbers of freed synths the Commonwealth has to deal with if you give the evacuation order and the Railroad's policy of taking in freed synths, giving them new memories, and then doing nothing should the synth become a problem like we saw with Gabriel.

If you like the Brotherhood so much, out of curiosity, why is your avatar of someone who hates them and orders the PC to eradicate them?

I'll more or less agree with this, for the same reasons.

As I just pointed out, the idea that Maxson is expanding into the Commonwealth is pretty unfounded. It's at most an expeditionary force.

None of them.Up until now,it has always been a good vs evil deal (Fo 1,2 and 3).The evil option was usually due to failure/premature endgame.

This time around it is a multifaceted question that cannot be rationalized to a good vs evil scenario.

We probably won't hear about the commonwealth again.

To me it really feels like Fo4 is the REAL gamesas take on a Fallout game.Fallout 3 was more of an experiment IMHO,and so was the forced Good ending canon.-

I think that the future fallout games will always be open-ended to leave as much room to headcanon as possible.

As was discussing it within' another thread, i strongly believe that BoS gonna be canonized because well, they're the most iconic - fanbase aspect of fallout, with power armors and such.

They've even got new ultrapowerful toys like Prydwen and Prime, Maxson's young enough to recover from a defeat, BoS has enough strenght and resources in the capital wasteland to recover and get back on their foots.

Wiping out institute and railroad doesn't seem right to me..

They're the deepest and coolest things bethesda did lately, i mean, maybe its just my own tastes but they're somewhat original, unique, they played a role fighting each other for years, these factions have a soul and a major goal different from just hoarding tech and crushing vertibirds around, please Beth let them live. :D

My guess is that it will be ambiguously referred to as the 'war between the Institute and Brotherhood' and never given a definitive resolution. The Railroad will get forgotten by everyone else, and the Minutemen may be noted as 'barely holding on trying to protect the citizens' or something.

Whatever ending they chose, I am almost positive it will end in the institute's destruction. They are the boogeymen of the commonwealth and the faction just about everyone in said commonwealth hates and or fears. At least moreso than the other factions presented. Even if the player character can take control of the institute, I just don't see them as being the canonical ending. So I would say pick between the other 3. If I had to guess, I'd say the BoS are gonna be canon, they've already sowed the seeds for it around Maxon who was in FO 3 as a boy and now he's in charge and has been working to reconnect the BoS. Don't think his story (canon wise) is over yet as much as I dislike him.
