What ever happened to the good ol' "fishy stick"

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:33 pm

Title says it all. Didn't really think about it until today, but what happened to the fishy stick that would be granted to new members? When I first found this forum I would see it thrown around every once in a while, and now I can't remember the last time I've seen it. Did that just perish with the times or what?

I still see it from time to time, but just not as fequently as I used to. I think the reason why is because usually I don't realize someone is new unless they actually come out and say "hi im new." Newmembers don't seem to announce they are new that often so they fall though the cracks and don't get the fish stick tradition.

i see it alot in the ob and mw parts of the forum, i think most of the new people joined for skyrim so most of them don't go to any other part, and they don't get a fishy stick

That, and there are a LOT more new members (and members in general) than there used to be so it's doubly hard to spot one.

Alot of times we don't know when someone is new or posting for the very first time. Usually when ever someone says it's their first post, I see people getting a fishy stick.

Thing is, nobody mentions it anymore. Being on forums is not a big of a deal as it was back then when fishysticks were being given out alot. Damn I am old.

I can't say I see many of the new folk, I hand them out if I do see one. That's very rare though.

Mostly because I don't pay that much attention normally.

Why, I honored a new member with one just yesterday in the Avatar thread. He's aware of it because I PM'd him for a heads up. I saw his reg date, and checked his profile and he only had two posts, so I thought "What the heck?".

Basically this and it gets old after a while when people start asking for a fishy stick.

Ran out. Too many new members. Production couldn't keep up. Also, some were complaining of mercury poisoning.

I don't see any new members anymore.

Pop into the Skyrim forum. :D

The problem was that they became a spam fest, topics were being derailed and the mods cracked down on it. Whilst the forums were smaller, new members were easily recognised when they posted in the Morrowind, and to a lesser extent, the Oblivion forums, the tradition was a good one and a little bit of fun. Now, with the number of new members joining the whole process would very quickly become chaotic.

I got several if I remember corectly, on both my accounts.
Although I think I often started my posts with "I'm new" or something like that the first week or so. :)

:ahhh: Don't expect me in there anytime soon. Sometimes I lurk and wonder how people can be so interested in speculation. "Your thoughts on snow!", "Thread 5 about the same trailer!", "What are you going to do first?!", while interesting, don't hold my attention. I'm still waiting for everyone to get over it and get back into the CD. :)

^ you can find new members as easily as finding a cliff racer in morrowind in that forum. haha

I have never even heard of the fishy stick, but I joined last year i think? ya last year. How old is the fishy stick tradition anyway?
