What ever happens to FO4, I just want to take the time to...

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:07 am

.... properly thank the modders who will no doubt be the main reason that

I still play the game after sinking at least 1000 hours into it.

After trying my hands on making a couple of mods on my own, I know first-hand of how utterly

complicated it is, and I am absolutely and completely floored by your efforts. Seriously you guys....wow. ^_^;

So yea, thanks again to all you modders out there, you are an important part of what makes

the rest of us still play the games even 10 years after its release. <3

Looking forward to experience all the insane mods that really push the engine to its breaking point.

Let the good times roll. :)

I'm hoping Beth is able to get mods on consoles. Though I plan to have a PC up and running some time in Q1 2016.

Feel free to give it a try.
Its easy if you change a couple of values, but gets REALLY complicated when you try to mess with scripts.

Really ... REALLY complicated.

And I cannot even wrap my head around how SKSE is made.
I'm assuming these modders actually do computer programming for a living.
Won't be surprised if some of them are actually game devs from other studios.

Modding doesn't have to be complicated really.

You could take a weapon you find underpowered and just edit it to give a little boost to make it more worthwhile and done. You've just created a mod.

My mod Gabriel's Gangs Expanded for FNV was really just me copying Fiend ID's, changing the names to something, editing their stats a little, giving them the equipment I found appropriate for the gang I had in mind and then just put them somewhere on the map I found appropriate. It's not the most polished mod, not by any means, but it gets the job done of adding more variety to the hostile gangs you'll find across the Mojave. I had zero experience with modding when I went into it and I still managed to produce something which apparently a bunch of people really appreciated.

So it depends on the mod you want to create and whether or not you want to take shortcuts.

Like all things modding gets easier the more you do it.

Yup, just gotta start out somewhere small and not expect too much out of it. Dip your toes in the water basically. To get adjusted.

I've never made one myself either, but I might give it a try this time around… mainly because I've never had a quality gaming rig at time of a game launch. I just got back into PC gaming over the last couple years and have loved messing around with Skyrim and the last 2 Fallouts. But I would still go onto the sites out of curiosity just to see what I was missing out on before I moved back to PC.

I was always very impressed by what the community can create and cannot wait to see what the future will bring… well besides the obvious "bewbz" mods that go up day one ;P

I know this might be off topic but I just like creating mods because it is an easy way to make game design a hobby and not have to drop 80 hours a week into it.

If any of yall want to get into game dev (modelling, level design, etc) I would reccommend starting with mods. Not only are they exposure, but you get all the fun of creating something you want on your time without the annoyance of actually having to slam your foot into the game dev door.

I assume some time in 2016, some Xbox mods will emerge.

It will be interesting to try some of them out, I sense that some mods become inspiration for future games' vanilla features.

I've heard/read many games industry people say they got their start in modding. Of course that's usually people who were doing it quite some time ago when there weren't anywhere near as many modders and they would have stood out more. I guess another factor is that today engines are so accessible you can jump right into making your own game. But modding is still a good way to get started, it can feel rewarding much faster than making your own game and lead to something cool in far less time.

Go ahead and thank the modders if you like.

I mostly want to thank Bethesda for giving us games that we can mod, and the tools that we need for it.

Right up there too are the outside developers that make it all possible; Nifscope, FNVEdit, Mod Organizer, and all the rest.

Those folks seldom get the thanks they deserve.

Thanks to all the modders.

And I'm going to learn how to mod Fallout 4 when the tools come out.
