What exactly does FOOK do?

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:07 pm

I find the idea that a failed Outcast expedition and a trader from Rivet City (along with official RC Security guards) both arrived in the Mojave within a five mile radius of New Vegas hard to believe. I also see absolutely no reason whatsoever to include those items other than 'because we can' and I find that attitude horrible. Can you give one good reason why adding those items will make the game even marginally more enjoyable?

Other stuff that wouldn't fit would include talon company armor, that horribly ugly Enclave armor, Reilly's Ranger's armor, and basically anything else that's faction-specific to groups in the Capital Wasteland or the Enclave (unless you're going to include a much larger Enclave presence in the region, which wouldn't be proper in my opinion). Anything marked as Vault 101 or one of the other capital wasteland vaults wouldn't fit, either.

I have no problem with the 'generic items' being added except I don't want them cluttering up my game (personal preference only and I can understand why others would want that sort of stuff). I really don't want to see the Combat Shotgun from F3 added because I find it ugly, but that's really personal preference.

Langy.

You have not even tested the mod. The proof is that those items are NOT integrated in the game world, just in out-of-roleplay boxes. If you dont like those items cluttering the game, simply dont open those boxes.

So please, refrain from hating FOOK yet :)

Severnaya: Read the thread. The FOOK team is saying that they are planning on integrating the items into the game world. I am saying 'please think before integrating all of them into the game world and only integrate the ones that make sense'.

STOP SPECULATING!

We never said we would integrate all of them. The bogeyman's hood is now in as a separate item using the same MESHES, it is there in spirit but it's not the same item. You people are jumping at shadows and assuming things we never said! And we all know what they say about assumptions. More than likely the stuff that needs explained like the rivet city armor will remain in the QA containers for people to roleplay Harkness or something. Relax people we have those situations under control, stop seeing bogeymen wherever you look and let us handle it. remember in FOOK when we integrated companions? Yeah, it was a bad idea and we finally cut them but when deciding whether or not to cut them I freaking wrote huge essays (1000 words or so each) on what the backstory should be for each character. You should see what I wrote for Autumn. even Tarrant was applauding it! (sadly due to not being able to do the man justice without voice acting we finally cut him as well)

I never said you were. I simply voiced my opinion that you should not in case you were planning on integrating all of them (or simply weren't sure which ones you were going to integrate).

Actually I AM the current "leader" of FOOK, meaning that I'm the one working on it of the team (LinkesAuge is essentially doing background work for now).

And I know what's the plan with Legacy Items. 'cause I'm the one who make them, you know.

Anyway, only the one that make sense will be integrated. Nuff said.

Seriously, read your post at the top of the page. It's a whole different message. You were saying the mod is worhtless and telling people not to use it. Eh ...

What Xporc there said. What you are doing is little more than trolling and whining simply because, well I don't know maybe you have a God complex or something. most of us have been nice so far, (except xporc, he is the anti social one) but further trolling will result in nothing more than a "Report post" and ignoring you.

that horribly ugly Enclave armor,

I love that Enclave armor. It's the only armor that's fit for my followers to wear! Soon as I get my fingers on some, this BoS armor is going into... well.. storage.

This isn't the spoiler forum so I can't say too much about enclave in NV, but you never know, right?

Agreed, i'll take the APA2, Tesla or even the hippo-helmeted Hellfire armor over a T-51b any day. It's that gigantic valve handle in the back. I do love the T-51c model used in FWE though, it's like a combination of APA2 and T-51b.

Some posts went away.

Just a general reminder with mod feedback:

If you have aired your opinion, and were responded to, the current owners of this mod may or may not take into account your views. If it reaches a point where you have said your piece, and the mod makers are not particularly agreeing with you, then... time to move on. If you don't like a mod, or the modders plans for a mod, and can offer constructive feedback rather than "this mod svcks because I said so" type of feedback, that's fine. Delightfully, you have the option to not use the mod. If you insist on belaboring the point and harping on what you think is wrong or otherwise throwing around non-constructive comments, that is not fine, it will look like flaming or worse, and it gets moderator attention.

And one other thought for the day - if you haven't actually tried a mod, then your opinion is the equivalent of someone who looks at a new type of food and says "Blech. I don't like it" without ever actually having tasted the dish.

I'd like to clarify that I'm not trying to hate on FOOK, nor did I come into this thread without knowing what the current version of FOOK actually does. In my original post, I said the current version has bug fixes coupled with a cheat mod and does not, in fact, do anything like what FOOK did for F3. I don't think that's in question*. The original poster of this thread asked 'what exactly does FOOK do?' - not 'what will it do in the future'. I dislike the current version of FOOK (as I dislike any cheat mod) - that does not mean I dislike the concept of FOOK or what it might turn into in the future. I even said in my original post that it might turn into something worthwhile later on in its development, though yes I said people should avoid it in its current form (again, because it's currently a cheat mod). I apologize if it came off as 'you should never look at FOOK again' or anything like that.

*I suppose it depends on your definition of 'cheat mod', though I generally include 'provides a ton of free stuff at the beginning of the game instead of integrating it into the game world' in that definition.

The shots are the shooty-est, the beams are the beamy-est,
the glow is the glowy-est, the booms are the boomy-est
the radios the switchy-est, the buttons the clicky-est

Way back fook

(no wait, it just makes the enclave armor be colored blacker.. yeah that must be why I did all that stuff this summer. Black armor + army of followers = ultracool).

Hey, that's catchy! :)

Of the QA Containers: As of v0.03 (coming soon) the QA shelf/containers are all initially disabled and can be http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/JustinCoherent/Fallout%20New%20Vegas/QAShelfEnabled.jpg/http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/JustinCoherent/Fallout%20New%20Vegas/QAShelfDisabled.jpg from within the FOOK menu at the press of a http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/JustinCoherent/Fallout%20New%20Vegas/QAShelfButton.jpg. Suffice it to say, they will not be enabled by default (just as they were disabled outside v101 in FO3 by default) as FOOK's M.O. is not to be a "cheat mod". The other containers not on the rack have been removed as they were just temporary until the rack and its corresponding code/menu buttons were implemented.

Objectively, they're there for us moreso than they are for users so we can check stuff out and make sure our edits are working as intended/new items have icons, don't float if dropped/etc. If their potential presence really bothers anyone, I guess I could add a button to permanently disallow access to the QA menu... If even one person would want that, I'll make it so.

No, I was referring to the Enclave armor from FO3, not the Enclave armor from F:NV or Fallout 2.
