What to expect from Daggerfall?

Expect to die a lot in the starting dungeon on your first playthrough.

All in all, if you're the type of person who made the transition from Oblivion to Morrowind, prepare for an even bigger transition of change from Morrowind to Daggerfall. I'd suggest reading the in-game tutorial the game offers to you during the starter dungeon, and if that's not enough, come back here and ask someone (not myself) for advice.

Oh, and unless you feel like going through an entire tutorial on simply setting the fourteen-year-old game to work on a modern computer, just download it here, all set up and ready to play. http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN

OMG, that's the easiest installation ever!! Thank you!!!! I don't even have to mess with all that sound setup soundblaster pro BS! :D

I played the game not to long ago, and it was terrible. Yes, I'm sure back in the 90s it was a great game but in 2010 it's damn near unplayable. Graphics aren't everything, yes. Just like looks aren't everything. I don't need a supermodel with massive briasts, but when the woman is 700 pounds and whose face has been mauled by a Chimpanzee that's where I draw the line, and dagger fall is that bad if not worse in terms of graphics. I'm sure it was one of the best RPGs around a decade or so ago, but not now. Don't play it. It's terribly outdated and the graphics are far to bad for you to enjoy the game. Don't flame me, and lash out at me with insults because I'm just saying it's a bad game in today's modern age, but it was a GOOD game in the 90s.

If it looked THAT bad for you it might well hav been the resolution, bear in mind these games were never meant to be jumped up to 1600 x 1250 resolutions or what have you. The game looks like Doom, which isn't all that bad looking really, certainly ugly by today's standards but more than playable. Also all you did was critcize the graphics without mentioning what elements of the gameplay you found dated so... Yeah way to notice a 14 year old game has 14 year old graphics.

:P

But you know, let the people decide if they'll like the game or not instead of telling them not to play it and that they'll obviously quit because of the graphics. Some people stand it, some people don't. ;)

Hehe, I'm sure we'll get the same comments in 10-15 years about Morrowind and Oblivion. :D
Without derailing too much, it always makes me chuckle when people comparing two games from the same series. When it comes to good points, some say "Oh, yes, Oblivion has better graphics than Morrowind."

Sure it does, it's the next generation game. How about rating the more important stuff that cannot be influenced by the graphics? Like writing, story and character development? :P

I agree that Daggerfall should never be judged based on graphics, but I'm the type of person who can tolerate some pretty old graphics. I used to play SNES and Playstation games, and my standard for video game graphics doesn't change as graphics get better. Daggerfall reminds me of a Playstation game, so I have no problem with it. In fact, and I know I'm probably in the minority here, I find old graphics to have a certain charm to them. Perhaps it's because they remind me of my earliest gaming memories. So, regardless of graphics, Daggerfall is a very addicting game(for me).

As for writing, Daggerfall's fun(with ingame books):

"This orchard has sentimental value to me," said Mojhad, the Khajiit, to his friend, Hasillid. "Under that tree, for example, is where I first made love. And that tree, is where her mother stood, watching us."

"She watched you while you made love to her daughter?" said Hasillid, clearly impressed. "Didn't she say anything?"

"Meow."

The only time I completed the game, I was an Acrobat. Without magic at all, pure stealth guy.
Any class can complete the game without needing magic skills. In fact, I never used magic in all of my playthroughs. :)

Sorry to dig up an older thread but I have to ask how you did this. I'm playing pure stealth and I'm getting it handed to me by Ancient Vampires and Liches
