What faction do you agree with?

Post » Thu Nov 18, 2010 12:21 am

Heya forum,

So basically, title says it all. Which of the several games factions do you agree with the most, and given the chance, would you join?

I personally think what the Fighters Guild do is very noble, and if allowed, would surely join in. How about you?

Pretty much just the fighters guild, but maybe the mages guild too. If I had to choose only one it would be the fighters guild. I would try to achieve a minor rank in the mages guild too if possible, but just for the benefits.

My character loves her guild of mages. She doesn't get swept into debating the whole necrodude thing. All she knows is that they will attack her on sight, so she offers them no warning and no quarter. She loves the study of magic and will not touch a melee weapon, so the Mages Guild is a good choice for her.

Hmm... it depends on which character?

My current character is a mage, so Mages guild is a natural, plus it just so happens that she despises Necromancers. However, she is also handy with weaponry, so she did join the Fighters guild for some equipment and work. She's not 100% sure that's really her crowd, though.

She kinda frowns upon thievery, so she's unlikely to hang out with that crowd, though she's not likely to kill them, either.

The Dark Brotherhood, well, she IS likely to kill those psychopaths. She needs to root them out, though. Perhaps she'll have to infiltrate the organization... she's putting together a list of Cyrodiilians who are a threat to society, and isn't averse to taking matters into her own hands.

It all depends on my current character. Do I want her to be all good, all bad, or somewhere in between? Do I want her to specialize entirely in combat, or magic, or stealth? Most of the time, my characters remain somewhere in the middle--a noble villain, or a corrupted hero.... Rarely ever all one or the other.... So, I usually join all the factions, even if only to reap the benefits... But if I could choose only one faction...? Hmm... Mages Guild, I suppose, because they are more scholarly and I like the idea of magic... :)

Dark Brotherhood. Hey, if you want to be in the business of killing people, you should at least be like the DB and establish rules, a family, and a place where you can be loved. Most people in the DB would be in ditches or be serial killers if they were never around. The best part, I never felt like I killed an innocent person, so that is a bonus :)

Imagine tomorrow, you are walking down the street. Some guy says some things to you, you get mad and punch him in the jaw. Unlucky for you, he has a bad jaw and recoils in severe pain. You try to make him quiet but you accidently trip and the guy falls off a bridge and splats all over the place. Your life is over. Realizing you are a killer, you run. The police are after you, your family hates you and you are on the run. The only people who will associate with you are criminals and bad people. Then, the DB show up and save the day.

I like both the Fighters and Mages Guild. Combining magic and heavy armored combat( I would train as a spellsword) si I would fit in both.

The Fighters Guild, I never really liked the Blackwood Company and I disliked them even more when they got Maglir (He makes everything annoying for me).
I tend to play a Battlemage style character so I joined the Mages Guild but I found Traven to be rather annoying, which ruined the experience for me.

I would have to side with the Thieves Guild. They're like the robin hoods of Tamriel. They work to better the lives of the homeless in Cyrodiil, and they work for a man who has a noble agenda, and only wants to pass on the mantle to someone new who shares his ideals. Plus you get to take some cool stuff from snobbish rich folk in the process. Sounds like a winner to me. ^^

I mostly agree with the Fighters Guild and the Thieves Guild. The only issue I had with the FG was when
Spoiler
Modryn made me torture that one guy, but since he was expelled at that point, it seems unfair to blame the guild for one mer's actions.
As for the TG, I like the idea of helping out the little guy, but I don't want it to be at the expense of innocent people. So if I ruled the guild, I would make it a rule that you could only steal from jerks.

The Mages Guild I would agree with in theory. A guild where magic users can hone their skills seems like a good thing. However, I do not care for how it works in the game. If people like Jeanne Frasoric and situations like your character rising in rank ridiculously fast are any indication, I'd guess that the guild cares less about magical prowess and more about favors/connections. (Of course, usually I like to roleplay that Arcane University is actually a proper institution of learning.)

The Fighter's Guild seem the most noble and best spirited, so outwardly I like them the best.
But I also like the idea of the Mages Guild. They seem to be focused on gaining knowledge of books and lore, and furthering their knowledge of the world around them and magic, not really caring who they offend/hurt in their research - which I like more than morals. So, the Mages Guild is my favourite,

I thought the Fighter's Guild had a great sense of honour. If I was in the TES universe, I'd probably join them.

With pluggins I think the KotN faction is the one I most agree with.

Without pluggins, I'd consider the Blades, and I don't know much about them. They sound good but I could see where they might do some things that I'd disagree with.

So I would say the Fighters Guild. Followed closely by the Mages' guild.

Note that the question is which faction you agree with. A case could be made that the Dark Brotherhood is more fun, but I don't agree with slaughtering innocents as part of a cult.

Ah yes, excellent point. I guess I forgot about their rather noble agenda. That's what makes Armand Christophe and the Grey Fox so appealing... :hubbahubba:

The Arena. Here's to Tamriel for accepting that people are obsessed with death. Gladiatorial fights are awesome. Wish we still had them in real life.

Thieves Guild is a close second. The Fighters Guild is okay, too, but they were so pathetic in Oblivion. The Mages Guild banned Necromancy, so no. A lot of them just seemed like pretenious jerks too, though I like the idea of the Arcane University and studying deep into the various fields of magicka. Dark Brotherhood is the last on my list. I have no problem with an assassination organization, but the whole Sithis thing ruins it. They are very mislead in their beliefs.

If I could just bury myself in books and research, probably the Mages Guild. But I loathe the internal politics of the MG (though at least it's not as bad in Cyrodiil as it is in Morrowind). If I could make a quiet little corner for myself, that would be my choice, but if I had to deal with the hierarchy and their squabbles, I'd rather not.

The Thieves Guild would be my other choice. I like the sort of loose and unstructured feel of it and I love that they try to protect Cyrodiil's poor. And I wouldn't mind a bit of sneaking and thieving.

If I understand the OP correct, and the question is about me personally, and not the characters I play, then the answer is none of the majors.

I have no problem with the Fighters Guild, but I am not a warrior who goes around getting into fights. So they are out. The Blackwood Company is definitely out, as they act with absolutely no sense of moral, ethical, or legal restraint.

The idea of killing for entertainment simply turns my stomach, so the Arena is nowhere near an option.

The Mages Guild seems alright from a distance, but the closer I get to it, the more I see it as a nest of internal politics where everyone is out to increase their own power. I get enough back-stabbing politics IRL.

The Dark Brotherhood? First off, I am a sister, so apparently my gender is not good enough for them. But even if they were the Dark Sisterhood, I am not onboard with murdering people, especially not as part of a wacko religious cult.

The Thieves Guild is definitely not for me. I am the kind of person who finds a wallet and returns it to the owner, with all the contents intact.

The Blades? No thanks, Janet Bourne I am not, and have no desire to be.

Knights of the Nine? Nope, I follow my own religion - made by me - not someone else's. Not to mention that as with the Fighters Guild, I am not the type to go around getting into fights. The latter goes for the other Knighthood orders.

The Mythic Dawn? Why would I want to destroy the world? This is where I keep all my stuff!

The Order of the Virtuous Blood? Hmmm, a club of vampire hunters I could do. Especially if I could be more of a supporting member rather than someone expected to go out slugging it out like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like Willow. I could cast Cure Diseases on the Slayerettes after the fight, and make them all potions beforehand of useful stuff like fire damage, shield, and restore health.

Indeed SubRosa, I was referring to the player him/herself, not the characters they play. I forgot all about the Order of the Virtuous Blood to be honest. I think that one is cool too. So is the Court of Madness. :P

What can I say? I'm a svcker for sassy, tough French guys...

Court of Madness I never really thought of as a faction, but I guess it is if you look at it. Between Mania and Dementia, of course I prefer Dementia; however, in the game I usually kill Thadon and take over the Court of Mania so I can get the Seducer armor for helping them restore the Wellspring... I don't like the Saints' armor very much, and since you can't get both... I wish they'd made it possible to get both--you should get the armor of your side when you become duke/duchess, and the armor of the opposing side when you help them.... Oh well, I guess that's not how they wanted to do it....

I agree. I used the construction to get the armor I wanted. (See the DS and GS link in my sig). Although you could use the command line as well.

I think that's totally fair... after all,

Spoiler
If you choose to kill Syl, when you finally find her, she's wearing Seducer armor. No reason why you shouldn't have access to it once you take her place IMO.
