What faction do you support? *Spoilers*

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:37 pm

what factrion did you end up supporting, The minutmen, BoS, Railroad or institute? Here I mean the faction which you went all the way with. Why did you choose that faction over the others?

I found it hard to choose between the BoS and the Minutemen, so I made one character that supports each since they're not opposed to each other, unlike the Railroad and Institute. Those two I definitely don't like.

If the BoS wouldn't be all "exterminate all non-humans!" I'd be with them 100%. As it is I'm afraid they'll turn into "Enclave 2.0" ...

The Minutemen are thus far the only faction I can fully support.

This sums up my feelings about the Brotherhood. I just can't rationalize them being the good guys - they seem like if they were, it would be the extreme authoritarian kind of good. And I can't dig that. I think I'd sooner support the Institute.

Minutemen all the way. I haven't rolled with the Railroad at all, so I couldn't say what's going on there, but I think I'll like them. Except for Desdemona. Funny how she has the same voice actress as Delphine from Skyrim, and is just as demanding.

I intend to back the railroad.
I strongly disapprove of slavery which the Institute practices as well a its very strange spying.
I strongly dislike tyrants which Maxson appears to be.
Maxson is also genocidal to the Ghouls and the Synths.
Maxson is more like Father Elijah than he is like Elder Lyons.

HA. I knew there was a reason I disliked Des.

On my Pro-Institute Playthrough I'll make sure I bring a Fatman renamed "FUS" to Railroad HQ to give her the send off I never could in Skyrim.

Honestly, Minutemen.

Thing about Brotherhood is that morally, they're actually in decline, returning to their ultra-conservative, tyrannical past under Maxson's blatantly insane policies. I'm holding out on some sort of DLC that lets you side with the Lyons-aligned (presumably) splinter faction mentioned in the background and turn them away from their nonhuman genocide and conquest. Ideally without annihilating the Railroad.

Railroad is nominally noble, but as an organization they seem to be kind of a mess. Plus I don't hate the Steelbros enough to want them eradicated.

Institute... I would support them because science and transhumanism are my jam, but they also happen to be ruthless slavers who kidnap, probably-torture, and replace people. Also, again, I don't want the other factions totally gutted. Oh well.

Railroad.

Here me out.

If you support the Minutemen, you've started a war with the BoS. You've killed their leader and taken Liberty Prime so they WILL be back. They have the Capital Wasteland and they have an endless number of potential recruits to want to return. If you support the Railroad, you get all the benefits of the Minutemen (assuming you did their quest) and you can destroy the Brotherhood of Steel in such a way as they can't take revenge on you.

Also, you make sure all of the Synths are evacuated from the Institute before the people.

Brotherhood all the way.

Despite showing an extreme intolerance towards non-hostile non-humans, they don't exactly send us on a mission to 'purge' good neighbor of the ghouls. It should be mentioned that that one particular "Kill X because its X" quest can be absolved without killing X.

I actually *really* liked Maxons character.. because he was so committed to what he believed was the best course. Theres just something about a strong stagnant character every now and then thats nice. Plus that speech he gave was damn inspirational.

Plus *most* non humans creatures you run into like feral ghouls, super mutants, and synths are highly dangerous and hostile creatures that seek to kill your own flesh and blood species all the time. I don't blame the brotherhood for their prejudice lmao, it's like saying "We should give all deathclaws a chance, there were those talking ones that one time." Yeah, I know mutants and ghouls were human once, but if that's not enough for them to not attack you, it shouldn't go the other way around.

Plus I romance the Danse, so being Brotherhood is kind of one of his requirements for waifu's

That's only if you attack the BoS and make them hostile. If you don't, Preston never gives you the quest to shoot down the Prydwen.

My first choice was the Institute. Becoming the director of it too puts your character in the best position also :D

Railroad seem like they're causing more problems than anything, even if they feel their intentions are good.

I like the BoS (like how they're not Lyon's brotherhood even more), i can understand their views, but not sure about them. im doing a BoS playthrough now.

Minutemen just seem like a lost cause

I threw loads of mines down and chucked a grenade in the room, it was VERY satisfying :)

Yeah, thus far the Minutemen and Brotherhood haven't clashed in my game.

I do enjoy following around Knight patrols and not participating in the fights they get into, though. I've amassed four complete suits of T-60b armor just by letting the Commonwealth do its thing. I haven't even set foot in the Airport yet, so there's still another suit available when I want it.

It seems that the BoS is always getting shot down when they attack only with Vertibirds... when they put power armor units on the ground they seem to always win, but those Vertibirds seem to be made of cardboard :P

I watched a single Super Mutant warband bring down two Vertibirds who were attacking in concert.

At this point, the artillery piece I've got pointed towards the Brotherhood is more for THEIR protection, then mine.

I ended up supporting the BoS, but I built up the Minutemen also.

The Minutemen are fine and everything, but they don't really have a plan for the future, they are just "keeping the status quo" faction. There's not going to ever be a real civilization coming from them, they are just basically the Yes Man faction where no one wins, and everything just kinda remains the way it was, but slightly safer since you lead them.

The BoS are kinda dikes, but at the same time, they do help people, and try to make things better, even if it is really only for their own benefit.

The Railroad have good intentions, but also have no real plan for the future, and their freed synths have a habit of backfiring on them in some way.

The Institute are just dikes, plain and simple. They are cool if you were pro-Enclave in Fallout 2/3, and pro-Legion in NV, and generally just hate anyone outside a small collective of "superior people" but otherwise, no.

The Minutemen are basically untrained peasants loosely affiliated with each other. They can't get anything done without your help. Nothing.

The Railroad is a bunch of terrorists who use innocent people as shields/distractions at Bunker Hill. Not to mention the fact that they want to liberate *all* robots from synths to protectrons to toasters.

The Institute is comic book level evil at their worst. At their best, they're ambivalent to the suffering of Commonwealth citizens. Bad ideas all around

So, that leaves the shining beacon of good in the Wasteland. The Brotherhood. Killers of super mutants. Cullers of feral ghouls. Destroyers of homicidally-programmed synths. Making the Commonwealth actually safer for everyone.

Taken the Institute route for my first playthrough, not that much because of ideological concerns as because of parental. Still, he criticizes them a lot and follows his moral compass as much as he can.

But generally I like them all and no matter which side I would take, I would feel bitter. And I do like that in my games.

Only done one of the factions, but I think I generally made the best choice. Are the Brotherhood of Steel dikes? Sure, no doubt about that in their hoarding of technology. But they seem to have humanity's interest at heart, in the broad sense. And they have not shown themselves as extreme as the Enclave, being more prone to isolationism and taking an off-hand approach than the Enclave's very much hands-on approach. It can't be denied that the Institute has caused a lot of problems for the world above with their synths and Shaun even tells you that there is no hope for the Commonwealth. The Institute claims to be humanity's last hope, but at the same time they have given up on the humans living on the lands above them.

The Railroad seems to have good intentions, but good intentions only get you so far. They don't seem to be interested in helping the Commonwealth at large. I'm in favor of synths getting a second chance, but sometimes we can''t get everything we want.

Now, the Minutemen seems to be the best faction specifically for the Commonwealth, helping a bit to organize peasants to defend themselves against raiders and mutants. However, engaging the BoS in a war seems to be a very bad idea and will get a lot of people needlessly killed. Killing Arthur Maxson, not only a BoS Elder, but also a direct descendant of the founder of their order, seems to be asking for trouble. Siding with the BoS allows the two groups to live in peace. At least for the time being. The BoS aren't interested in targetting the Minutemen at all. Preston might be a bit pissed with the player for this, but that's too bad.

Had to take institute on my first play through, a mother will do anything for her son. Second play though I think is going to be Minutemen all the way, I want to see just how large I can get my settlements.

I'm wondering. Could I side with the Brotherhood of Steel, destroy the Railroad and Institute, and then destroy the Brotherhood with the Minutemen? Why not wipe out all of the big problems in the Wasteland? Plus my Minutemen then get all the toys (Vertibirds and Artillery).

Yes.

After beating the MQ while siding with the BoS, simply go to Boston airport and start shooting up BoS soldiers until you get a message that you are now hostile to the BoS.

Talk to Preston afterwards to get the quest to take down the BoS.

Hmmm. That's actually pretty tempting. No matter who you choose you're going to have a moral dilemma on your hands in the long run. Might as well wipe the slate clean and start again, right?

Science fiction. Androids. Cyborgs. Cool pew-pew blue lasers. Transhumanism. Cyberpunk.

Yes, Institute all the way. [censored] morals.
