What factions do you think will be in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:00 pm

Hey guys first post here i hope i'm not reposting something but anyway here we go,

What new factions do you think we will be seeing in Skyrim that would fit in lore wise?

I remember reading somewhere that Skyrim had Great houses (like in Morrowind) do you think those kind of factions will make a reappearance?

And i'm pretty sure that Dark Brotherhood was confirmed as well so don't bother posting that. :P

Anyway i'm interested in your responses i am incredibly excited for this game. :D

Other than the Dark Brotherhood like you said, there's been no other word. We can still speculate though.

There will probably be a Fighter's Guild type organization, whether it will be like it was 200 years ago during Oblivion or not is unknown. I would bet it's a bit different. Maybe even a split of some sort like the Mage's Guild, no idea what they could be.

There will probably be a mage's organization but will it go back to the one guild or remain the two we heard about in the book? Personally, I hope we get to explore the Synod and College of Whispers, they sound interesing.

Thieve's Guild is pretty much a given but again we don't know what form it will take. Shadowy and hidden or out and about or something else. I'm hoping for something more hidden and underground than anything we've seen so far in the games. Smuggling rings, muggers, extortionists, pickpockets, burglars, all that jazz.

I would assume the warring factions can be joined and judging from the map we caught a glance at, it will be Rebels vs. Empire. To what extent we join... I hope it's more in depth than the previous few games. Will we join a faction and be shipped to towns to do quests or be sent over the map from one location? Don't know, can't wait to find out.

Yeah, as above I think right now it is just speculation. That said, I could definitely see some sort of tribal influence going on given the context of the game. Tribes would be the equivalent of great houses in Morrowind.

In any event, it all has to make sense in terms of local politics, and I am sure a huge amount of consideration has gone into that.

Personally, I like the idea of multiple warring power brokers that you can join and push to the top. Plus, I love strongholds!

Rival factions or houses would be very good. Especially if they have unique armour, weapons and quests.

I really hope we can join those factions and take part in the civil war. I do hope those factions have alot of depth and that we can only join one of the two. I wouldn't really make sense to be a member of the empire and the rebels at the same time imo

I read somewhere that Bethesda is putting a much larger emphasis on lore than they did in Oblivion so I suppose we can expect to see some cultural factions with deep background and history. Definitely looking forward to that.

Yes! I'd love to join the rebels. Still, I figured that would be covered in the main quest.

The usual ones, and some unusual ones. The expected ones, and some unexpected ones. Good enough answer? ;)

Judging by a couple of the concept images over http://darklythroughglass.blogspot.com/2011/01/skyrim-concept-art.html maybe the Necromancers are in. Ooh, does that mean I can raise a dead Dragon to do my bidding?

Fighters
Mages
Dark Brotherhood
Thieves
Imperial Legion

Also how about gilds work against them.

Imperial work against Thieves and Dark Brotherhood or Skyrim version of Blackwood Mercs and work for them against Fighters Gild.

Do you mean the one with wolves pawing at a corpse, with a skeleton on a table next to it?

Here are the ones that I would like to see:
Blades
Fighter's Guild
Mage's Guild (or whatever it is called now)
Thieves' Guild
Dark Brotherhood
Morag Tong
Imperial Legion
Nine Divines Cult (Imperial Cult)
Temple Cult (Dunmer worship, just because they're nearby)
Skyrim Religion Cult (don't know what it is called)
Royalists (part of the Skyrim Cival War)
Rebellion (part of the Skyrim Cival War)
Arena
Pijiics (spelling?)

Rivals:

Imperial Legion..............Rebels (yet to be named)
Dark Brotherhood..........Morag Tong
Fighter's Guild...............Blackwater company equivalent
Imperial Cult..................Other religious guild
Thieves guild..................Rival thieves guild (one is in it for the money and the other is more Robin Hood-esque
Mages guild is split into two already i think.... but i also want necromancers

then there should be lots of minor factions

I'd love to see the Temple back, see what has changed since the deaths / disappearences of their gods. And Morrowind is right next-door to Skyrim.

Here are the ones that I would like to see:
Blades [pretty hard with only two members]
Fighter's Guild [yes, with a better named rival as well]
Mage's Guild (or whatever it is called now) [the two of them, yes]
Thieves' Guild [equivalent and with a better, more original name]
Dark Brotherhood [confirmed]
Morag Tong [would like to see this along with DB to see a rivalry, only join one, but the rivalry should not take out other possible assassination quests]
Imperial Legion [as a part of one of the sides in the civil war]
Nine Divines Cult (Imperial Cult) [in Skyrim, but not a faction]
Temple Cult (Dunmer worship, just because they're nearby) [don't really care, probably not as a faction, just a group near the Morrowind border]
Skyrim Religion Cult (don't know what it is called) [same as other religious groups]
Royalists (part of the Skyrim Cival War) [yes, with factions within the faction]
Rebellion (part of the Skyrim Cival War) [same as above]
Arena [equivalent]
Psijics (spelling?) [spelling edited and yes]

You've covered pretty much everything, so I'll just put my take on yours.
Also an evil/dark magic faction, necromancers or something else.

Yes, reminds me of the Necromancer lairs in Oblivion.

This is a great list that you've put together i hope there is a lot more then there was in Oblivion,
the more factions the better i say. :D

WITCH HUNTERS

Vampires, Necromancers, Witches and Werebeasts. The gastly and dispicable horrors that terrorize our lands. Too long have your dark eyes descended upon the worlds inhabitants. And now you will know.. We are your nightmare. We are your curse. We will watch you, and we will wait. When you hunger, we will know. And we will be there.

Skyrim abominations flee. Because your tainted blood will dry upon the mountainside.

Our blades are sharp. And our blades cut deep.

Perhaps, after we have adventured a bit, we could be approached by a contact for a faction, based on our gameplay. The contact could be either to recruit us into their faction, or warn us to watch our action, because they don't like it.

I'm thinking it's something like the following:

Mercenary Company
Thieves Guild
Dark Brotherhood
College of Whispers
The Synod
Court of Solitude (pro-empire)
Court of Windhelm (anti-empire)
Cult of Shor
maybe Imperial Legion
maybe Morag Tong
