What First Happened to You?

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 7:57 am

OK, I have been playing F1 for about an hour now and I love it!

It's so well made and I have no doubt it was the absolute greatest game of it's time, now I understand how everybody who's been playing it since release can still play it now of days.

But this thread is about what happened to you at the beginning.

For me I went out and instantly got lost, I started heading south and then switch directions to west, I ran into a radiscorpion and owned it. I then started to head east and ran into a gang of eight raiders, I was killed quickly.

Then when I went through it all again I ran into another wanderer who gave me directions to Shady Sands, Junktown, and Necropolis.

What happened to you?

I got killed by cave rats outside Vault 13, last time I EVER took Jinxed.

I didn't like the look of that so I picked Gifted and Bruiser.

It has been a very long time since I played Fallout for the first time. I have a feeling I was also killed by cave rats on my first try.

Am I the only one who wasn't?

I have an Off Topic question, are there any merchants in Shady Sands? I really think I need better equipment to do the first mission I was offered there (because I was so quickly killed when I tried it).

There are people that will sell things in Shady Sands. There are many small quests there as well.

I tolled Aradesh I would take care of the Scorpions, but I died after killing two.

Can you tell me where the merchants are? I really need either some better armor or one hundred bottle caps to get Ian. (both would be nice)

Nah, I wasn't killed by a cave rat my first time. I was killed by Radscorpions during the first Shady Sands quest.

Your best bet is to recruit Ian who is in the first building on the right side of the screen when you enter Shady Sands (he's the long haired guy in the leather jacket). There's no actual merchants in SS, but you can barter with many of the NPCs there. If you plan on going to Vault 15 you might want to barter for some rope with the gate guard Seth, otherwise you won't be able to go down to the lower levels.

That's funny, same thing happened to me.

Yeah, I was actually planning on recruiting Ian, helping SS then going down to Junktown next.

Thanks for the Bartering tip!

Radscorps for me as well in the shady sands quest. After I managed to kill them with the help of Ian, I tried to take on the Deathclaw later on and was murderized a dozen times over before leaving it till later.
