What do first time elder scrolls players think of skyrim?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:00 am

That is normal when they first rise up.

Use the console to save when/if on the PC. Open it (~ key) type:

Save "Name_here_using_underscores_rather_than_spaces_with_names_using_more_than_one_word"

Example:

save Joe_Blow_in_Riverwood

P.S.

Great responses so far. :)

Thank you for this! I've been playing multiple characters and this is a lifesaver!

I'm absolutely loving it! Probably one of my favourite games this year :) Haven't been this hooked on anything in a long, long time. Kind of makes me want to play Oblivion, and Morrowind despite how old they are.

Ditto this. After Whiterun and being told to go to the Greybeards I strayed off the path and did most of the Companion's quests, turned into a werewolf, ended up elsewhere and started wandering. Now I'm a thane in four Holds, top member of the Thieves' Guild, iniated in the Dark Brotherhood and I've got an awesome horse. I love the immersion and character customization, though I am saddened by how slowly some skills level and how fast Destruction goes for me. (Already at 44, while my constant Archery-ing is only at 23, wtf.)

Once I am done, I will likely look for mods and maybe try out Oblivion as well. If Oblivion feels good to me, I may even try Morrowind. But that's all in the distant future.

I'm addicted. Cant stop researching and spend hours a night playing this game. And I have a full time job and a family to support!! I really have never played a game like this as I just let the kids play their games but the trailer made me buy it. I have always been more of a God of War type dude. This game in my opinion blows God of War out of the water. I'll be honest, I dont play games like this and it scared me a little after first....like when the first dragon attacked and I ran around for 10 minutes not knowing what in the world to do...ha! Now that I'm getting the hang of it I'm all in.

The random roaming, dragon attacks, and ability to build your own player really appeals to me. There are so many different combinations or ways to build a character its truly amazing. I constantly find myself dealing with decisions on my character build. At first I wanted more destruction, then two handed, now I'm back to one handed. Who knows where I'll be next week but thats part of the fun for me. I love that the game is just so big and really seems like it never ends.

If Bethesda could somehow manage to put more "finess" to the characters battling (like swirling blades in God of War), I think that would go a long way. Again I'm a big fan of the hack em up, finishing move type game and thats why I keep referrencing GOW.

As far as my PS3 goes, loading is a pain. And there has been several times where I try to load a certain saved game and it just wont load so I have to start earlier on in my quest. Your companions are cool but tend to get in the way to much and just start shooting even when I tell them to wait.

Cant wait to google "how to increase heavy armor skyrim". That's my main goal for tonight!!!!

I tried to get into Oblivion but just couldn't get past the feeling that I was playing with a fancy Excel spreadsheet. So Skyrim is basically my first TES game. It is AWESOME!! I am loving how completely open-ended it is! Nearly everything about it is satisfying. I also really love Rockstar's games....they are incredibly well-done and very very polished. I wish Rockstar and Bethesda would team up to make the ultimate open-world game!! There are some things Bethesda does better and some things Rockstar does better. For example, Red Dead Redemption blows Skyrim's horse riding completely out of the water! On the other hand, Skyrim is vastly more "open" and non-linear than Rockstar has ever come close to. If Red Dead Redemption had the non-linear and open quest system of Skyrim I would be in heaven.

Anyway, Skyrim is just unbelievably epic and immersive for me. I only get to play a few hours a week, so I'm sure I will be working on this one for the next year or so. I am now 100% a TES fan!

I'm a 1st timer.

I've absolutely LOVED it.

Until I downloaded 1.2 last night and now my game is completely unplayable until the next patch fixes magic resistance.

First timer here. I picked up Oblivion about a year back, but I could never get into it.. likely because I was playing on a 360 and I'm a PC player. But, I heard a lot of good things about Skyrim and was impressed with what I saw from E3 and decided to pick it up for PC.

I'm absolutely loving it, have about 110 hours put in. Luckily I have had no bugs or glitches and very, very few CTD's (which the stealth patch seemed to fix). I didn't update to 1.2 as I was worried that it may break my working game, so I'll be playing on 1.1 til a true patch comes out I'm sure won't have a chance at breaking anything.

I may get Oblivion for PC after a while just to see if I enjoy it more on PC. Skyrim has got me really into the overall story of the series.

I have been a fan of the RPG genre for many years. I was first hooked on Diablo back in the 90's. As a console only gamer my choices for an engrossing RPG were few and far between. I had almost given up hope until someone recommended Dragon Age: Origins to me a couple of years ago. That game reinvigorated me into the genre again. Between the entire Dragon Age series and Mass Effect I was able to keep myself busy and very content. Its games like these that I feel gives me the best value for the price we pay for games since the replay factor is extremely high. Having worked near Bethesda for years I had heard of TES and naturally was intrigued. However I am in the rare minority that detests 1st person viewpoint (I know I know...crazy) and not wanting to tease myself too much I did not take the time to read more about TES since I knew I would have no interest in FPS. When I was asked if I was getting Skyrim by a good buddy of mine and I said "no, you know I don't like FPS" he responded with the greatest thing ever (being able to switch to 3rd) I went out on 11-11 and purchased it and I have been in love with it ever since. I am used to bugs/glitches with large games (ME2 and Dragon Age were the same) so I had no issues with that. Skyrim is about as well done a game as I have ever played. The story is fantastic, visuals are superb and the game play is fluid. I like the leveling up system and the many different options we are given. Sorry to be so long winded but I need to cut this short now...Got some Skyrim to play. Thanks Bethesda and thanks to the OP for this great topic

You are not alone. I cannot stand first person. I would not be playing this awesome game if I couldn't switch back and forth.

Anyway, This is my first Bethesda game ever and I am playing on PS3. I had only remotely heard about Elder Scrolls from friends and I don't play RPGs that much (WoW, Final Fantasy X, XIII, Diablo II) so Skyrim was really different for me and I have to say I pretty much love it.

The Good:
- The scenery and graphics blow me away. When I first climbed the Throat of the World, it was jaw-dropping and I spent a good 10 minutes admiring the landscape.
- The quests actually feel relevant. I was expecting the typical "bring me 10 chicken legs" farm quests and was very pleasantly surprised.
- The world is huge and dynamic and I can easily lose a few hours just exploring. I love epic stories and so I have even begun reading up on the lore and history of Tamriel and Nirn, both in game and online.
- Some of the side quests are really creative and spooky which I like (A Night to Remember, A Taste of Flesh).
- I have a million choices of what I want to do with my character.

The Bad:
- I have to say I am a quite appalled at the number of glitches and bugs in this game. Maybe thats what comes with a vast open world game but I have never played ANY game on console or PC with this many bugs (invincible backwards flying dragons, characters getting stuck in walls, teleporting mammoths, etc.) it is really jarring to the immersive gameplay. I hope these things are fixed quickly in upcoming patches.

But that is really my only complaint and I have hopes that it will only be a temporary gripe. All in all it is pretty mind blowing.

My wife and I have both been playing and so we sometimes fight over who gets to play next. :)

I love it. Not normally into the RPG genre (played Wow for a bit, but only b/c I had a bunch of friends playing), I normally stick with sports games or FPS games. But I had a few friends recommend it to me, and I decided to check it out. Later that day, I was pissed at them b/c I was starving but didn't want to cook anything b/c it would take too much time. It really is amazing IMO. Multiple times I have just stopped and looked around in amazement at the detail of the game, and I'm not normally into the graphics of games.

One thing I hated about Wow were the pointless fetch quests. In Skyrim, you have fetch quests, but the difference is that there is an actual reason behind getting the item, its not just b/c said character is really feeling like stew but doesn't have the ingredients. I also love that we aren't getting "kill X of Y" quests, at least not yet for me. When you are killing things, there is an objective you are trying to reach, capture this fort, clear this dungeon to get more of the dragon language, etc.

On Xbox, I haven't really ran into any glitches, but honestly I wouldn't be too upset if there were a few minor bugs here and there. Its not anywhere close (in my experience) to the bugs in ncaa 12 which made it feel more like you were gaming the system than actually playing on a fair field.

My friends wife, who has been badgering him and the kids about how much they play games (She basically hates video games.) is now playing Skyrim, and enjoying it quite a bit.

Good job Bethesda, you corrupted what I thought incorruptible.

I think it's only 70% complete. I think it was rushed out to meet the catchy release date of 11-11-11.

I play a game like Arkham City and say, "Wow, what a clean, polished, complete game this is." While it's a different game, Betheseda could take note of their level of quality to that game.

But what do I know, the Skyrim lovers on this forum have about the same amount of logic as dragons flying backwards.

Like it. In fairness, I played about 60 minutes of Oblivion a while back, but didn't like it at all. Feels great, love the graphics and the detail.

I introduced Skyrim to 4 of my friends who've never played a TES game.

They're all addicted to it now, pretty much all of them are bothering to understand the lore (mostly by reading UESP), which suprised me.

Fun thing: they agree with my opinions on how some Morrowind and Oblivion features would make Skyrim even better. ;)

Ehhh it isn't as good as Modern Warfare 3

HAHA JK, I played MW3, loved it, but no replay value whatsoever, unless you want to play the multiplayer.

But this is my first TES game (unless you include the 5 hours I played Oblivion) and I am loving it. So far, this is one of the best gaming experiences I have had :)

I love it, and I found a good video series on youtube to let me catch up on the lore, I actually read all the books I pick up in it too it's the best RPG I have ever played, but i'm not a huge gamer so it's not like I have played every rpg in existence. Sometimes combat is very difficult though. I tried playing on Master with my Archer but dragons roast me with one fire breath. Also calling a dragon to fight for me is the most epic thing ever.

Only thing I've noticed is that people who are new to the series tend to side with the stormcloaks, while experienced players side mostly with the empire. Wich is a fun phenomenon.

I must say that I had been reading about it for a few weeks before it was released so the day it was released I rented it. I took it back 3 days late and purchased it the same day. Moved reservations to get it. I'm about 70 hours in so far and I absolutely love the openness of it. I can do as much or as little as I want and it all helps in some way.

i thinks its pretty much the funnest video game i've played. and the crazy thing is there is much room for improvement. i think the first thing that could be improved is having a wider variety of armor and weapons. kind of like Diablo 2. sure you can where anything you want but seems like there is only really one efficient setup for mages. havent played as warrior yet.
