75, anything higher gives me a migraine.

I like 90 for 1920 x 1200, though I've recently been trying out 85. I see huge fisheye at 100. Occasionally in a screenshot I'll notice mild warping on the far edges of the screen @ 90, but the weird thing is that it doesn't appear consistently. FOV below 80 starts to feelslike I've got tunnel vision or horse blinders on. I only go below 85 for close up screenshots.

From what people are saying, I'm wondering if different setups, monitors, gpus, and drivers, result in the different experiences.

indeed they do.... the more the monitor fills your own REAL FOV will effect how much of a fish eye effect is seen while running a higher FOV in game.. as the outside edges of the screen will appear warped more.. but actually arn't in real life due to the orientation of the screen in relation to your eye.

This is why some people look at an Eyefinity screenshot or Video recording with an ultra wide screen with a FOV to match it and think "this looks so damn ugly.. who could stand to play on that".. but they don't understand or refuse to acknowledge how it would appear quite different and "proper" on the correct display.

It's kinda like watching 2160p content on a 1080p screen.... your missing 3/4s of the information and only view 1/4 of the image...

I think it's about 65, which is ideal for guess who? Yes console users with TV's. Rarely do you see mulitplatform games have an FOV setup for PC users, It's usually setup for console users and there's even a website especially for widescreen PC gamers because devs screw the PC version over with a crap FOV.

Amazing isn't it that devs cannot do a simple FOV tweak for the PC version.

Been using the default but decided to take those steps and upped it to 75. No fisheye def a bit more real estate but my 1h ebony sword is still too high to see the top unless I look way up or way down(in 1st person) I have a 24" ASUS Monitor Native 1920x1080 (use that for all my games) running at 60 hz refresh....anyone think I can squeeze a little big bigger FOV maybe 80....? Speaking of monitors if I run Skyrim in windowed mode at 1920 x 1080 the game seems to not be aligned with the screen. Is that normal? Due to the taskbar or something? The top right portion of my viewport is still desktop and the missing section is off the screen.

I was running 85 on an earlier install. I sit pretty close to my 30" 16:10 LCD and didn't notice any fisheye effect.

Now I use FOV=90 on the same screen. There is possibly some fisheye but it's very minor and in normal play is not noticeable. I suspect >90 might start to bother me so 90 is as high as I am prepared to go.

How close you sit in front of the screen has a huge bearing on fisheye perception. What looks normal up close can look quite weird sat further back.

Oh and I've never seen any clipping problems of arms and shoulders in 1st person.

I use FOV 70 on a 22" 16:9 screen (1920x1080). It's just a bit wider then the default setting but it gives just that little bit more view without hitting to heavy on FPS on my system.

I use 90 on 1920x1080. I almost never notice the fisheye effect except when I'm talking to someone and someone happens to be standing at the edge of the screen and I can see their head is widened. My head is about 3 feet from my 23" monitor.

Been using 90 for so long I've actually forgotten how long it's been. Anything lower than that I just can't deal with.

I'm using the default - I tried higher - to 90, which s what I use in Oblivion, but in FP there's an issue with the arm holding the bow which was a little too much of a stretch for immersion, if you get my drift.
The default's fine, actually.

The default FOV gives me instant migraines. I used 90 for most of my first game but one thing always annoyed me about it- going up the stairs to the Arch Mage Quarters, my view clips through the wall. I lowered it to 88 and haven't noticed that issue again so I'll be staying at 88.

Funny, I have noticed an occasional clipping from time to time, but it's never bothered me too much. perhaps I will try lowering it a bit to see if that helps.

Wider the VOF you go, the FPS will drop. I notice with FOOK2 install in FO3. FOOK2 has a glitch in some point of the game, the FOV will go down to 55 which make me sick. It took me a while how to over come it by the camera setting that comes with FOOK2. I thought those camera setting only works with 3rd person. Left and right works but cannot get the zoom working in 3rd person. The I tried the zoom on first person and the zoom works. I notice when zooming out FPS drops. When I zoom in FPS rises. In FO3 I have my FOV on 90 with a 22 inch running at 1920x1080 res LED. I don't notice much distortion in that game. In Skyrim I have it on 85 and it dose distort a bit.

When I set FOV to 75 I got a good jump back, so whatever the default was it's less than that.
Yes, like DHJudas says you'd expect at least FOV 90 on a 16:10 monitor and on 16:9 maybe even more, FOV 100 or something...
But any more than 75 doesn't work for me. Too much!
Belethor becomes a little tiny guy waaaay across a counter that appears to be 10 feet wide.
A big distortion in perspective, plus fish-eye. I couldn't do FOV 90 at all.
Thank you to a previous poster. I keep losing my FOV 75, it doesn't stick, but now I will fix it!
I'm on 16:10 myself, but even though most people are on 16:9 these days I don't think even FOV 90 is doable.
And it's strange, it seems different than Oblivion because I specifically remember FOV 90 was my setup for Oblivion...

My only problem with my 90 FOV is that I am not able to zoom close enough with the camera when playing in 3rd person.

Unless using a glass (4:3) monitor, the slight change to FOV 75 is beneficial and very welcome on a wide screen.
Not too close; not too far.
Just right.
Gives you just a tiny bit more peripheral vision, and better sense of your own position within the world.
Over-the-shoulder viewers ('co-pilots') report much less nausea-inducing motion sickness watching FOV 75.
However higher FOV can distort the apparent dimensions of things...
I found FOV 90 turned the Whiterun house into a London flat!
It became what seemed to be about 100 feet deep but only 10 feet wide.
Again, any mod from the default setting needs to be increased gently (cautiously)...

I settled on fov 92 on my 30" 16:10 LCD (2560x1600). Since I have it relatively close to my eyes, I don't notice any warping as the edges of the screen are perceived peripherally. This way it gives nice surrounding feel to gaming. I used to play Unreal Tournament 2004 with fov 120 until recently so I'm used to high fov values.
As for the arms clipping and stuff, it's more like the models simply weren't modeled that "deep" into the corners, as if the developers thought that there's no chance that anyone would use more than a standard 60 fov (which is sickening for me) so why bother... Most of the console ports have this problem. I can recall Crysis 2 or Dead Island to have exactly the same issue.
Seriously, compared to older games like Quake, UT, Half Life etc. latest games make me feel like a [censored] while playing them and not only thanks to low fov. And I don't even touch the most mainstream titles. It's just ridiculous... and sad.
