What from Elder Scrolls can fit in Fallout 4?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:06 pm

The bow would fit in the wasteland, not the glass or daedric ones, just the plainest longbow. I guess medieval swords would fit, though they can't be in large quantities, like maybe only located inside a museum. What are your thoughts about what items from Skyrim, Oblivion, ESO can be recycled into the Fallout 4 game? To save development time.

If you're talking art assets, they couldn't really recycle any of the textures; physical-based rendering doesn't really facilitate that very well. And Bethesda shouldn't recycle anything, either. Screw saving development time, a new game means new assets.

The only time Bethesda ever reused assets from an older game, as far as I know, were some of the melee animations from Oblivion to Fallout 3. Considering Fallout 4 doesn't use dual-wielding and has melee with guns, I doubt they're bringing over Skyrim's melee animations. (they also might have reused sound effects between Daggerfall and Morrowind, but those were stock sound effects you could find in tons of other games too and Bethesda uses original sound design nowadays)

Horses... and horse-armour (but that was from Oblivion of course).

To be honest, horses would have been a good fit, vehicle-wise. Perhaps stored in a special vault and exercised on moving belts.

I dont see how beth could save time on a game that, development wise, is done.

Edit: unless you mean what beth might have already done to cut time, I honestly would not be surprised if they used the Skyrim skeleton model, since well a pile of human bones is universal between the two franchises, maybe one or two soundeffects.

Magic, we need magic.

I know people said that guns should stay in Falout when people suggested it for Skyrim, but I think the world has become a more open minded place since 2011.

So that's my answer, Magic, who wouldn't want to cast fireballs and lightning at raiders?

Yeah, they've just been down to bugfixing & optimizing for a while now. Dev was already done before it was announced.

Honestly, the main thing that would be "recycled" from Skyrim to "save development time" would be.... their experiences and lessons learned. There's no reason to re-use meshes or textures (given that the new rendering system likely requires new ones anyway). They're unlikely to re-use sounds outside of things that are already in a "stock sounds" library (ambient background hums & wind, etc), plus modern Blu-Ray "damn the space! full speed ahead!" standards seem to be for uncompressed audio. The skeleton's probably tweaked, if the new shooting needs new animations.

But their experience doing all these things in the previous games? Sure, that's always an aid to your next project (well, unless it's an entirely different kind of game, like a 2D platformer )

If the redo the bows and maybe add a crossbow id be ok with that, but swords are dumb. the only reasons they are around now are because they are cared for in museums and are constantly cared for or made or replicas that would still deteriorate with time. as for magic that is ridiculous. i dont play company of heroes to recreate the sims why would i want magic in fallout? as to the original question, horses would make sense but theyd still need to be redone because of the pbr.

I wouldn't mind seeing like one unique sword in a museum somewhere, and bows would make a lot of sense for tribals.

What about a Grognak the Barbarian replica sword?

Swords or bow.. Helmet maybe.. But they must not be new..they must be old and rusty and need fixing up.

Pretty sure they would've been eaten long before we wake up from cryo-sleep. Unless, as you suggest, they were squirreled away somewhere safe. Still, imagine the first Super Mutant to see one of those walking meat-bags ---- Yum yum! Or, heck, even raiders: we can eat for days on that thing! Get it!

Honestly, I don't think any sort of medieval elements would be appropriate for Fallout. This franchise is based on a futuristic United States based on 1950s utopian ideology gone horribly wrong and destroyed by a nuclear holocaust. I'd rather the game maintain this theme of focusing on the 1950s and what the future would have looked like based on that ideology. Swords, shields, and bows just do not fit the fabric of Fallout in my opinion.

This is similar to the argument that there should be guns in TES, which I also believe does not fit the fabric of that franchise.

I agree with this. Maybe a pair of calipers lying about on a table in Fallout as a funny little easter egg.

Khajiit!! They could be people mutated together with cats in some weird government experiment to make people able to wash themselves without wasting good water on bathing!

As for medieval melee weapons, I would say no, unless it was a unique find in a museum as was stated further up the thread. I'm fine with the improvised look and feel of things like the new baseball bat and the lawnmower blade machetes from NV. I wouldn't mind if bows and/or crossbows were added though.

I shouldn't be saying this. But a leaked report said that the Main quest revolves around killing an invading army. Called the Thalmor. Primitives who wield swords and bows, with pointy ears.

But in all seriousness. A few museum pieces, like swords or armor would be nice to see, not all useable but for general atmosphere. Also someone said a replica Grognak the Barbarian axe, or sword. Whichever he was more famous for. That would be really cool as a unique weapon.

Ideally nothing; especially not game mechanics. Even a crude bow should not be a reused TES asset. A PC made bow should look scavenged from modern materials and absolutely lack the kind of ornamentation from TES's fantasy setting. The better bows should be modern compound hunting bows.

Yes! Back when the F4 trailer was released I had this very same thought in a "What weapons would you like to see" thread!

I agree with this, modern compound bows ala Rambo would be quite an interesting addition IMO. Maybe the chieftains of tribal groups would have these powerful weapons while the warriors would have the basic scrounged material bows.
