What from morrowind you DONT want in Skyrim

Post » Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:31 am

Alot of threads ask for what you want in skyrim and its pretty generic people want morrowind in skyrim but the general consensus is also that they dont want a Morrowind 2.0 so here is the question. What feature of morrowind (or oblivion) do you want not to be implemented in Skyrim?

Cliff Racers.
Non-regenerating Magicka.
Static Spell costs with no consideration for skill.
Weak enchanting to no practical effect.
The whole combat system, generally.

Well, I would like to block when I want to block. Also, Cliff racers.

Edit: Nah, id like to see the scariest elder scrolls creature come back. OH! And I don't want the stealth animation, that was just scary.

I do not want:
  • Morrowind's fast-travel system
  • Morrowind-style side quests
  • Morrowind's pace
  • Morrowind's navigation (a halfway point between Morrowind's and Oblivion's would be ideal, for me)
  • Morrowind's setting
  • Morrowind's cheerful music playing dungeons
  • Morrowind's running speed
  • Morrowind's house-owning system
  • Morrowind "cut-and-paste" NPC dialogue (at least Oblivion's named ones typically had something unique to say, albeit brief)
  • NPCs standing in one place all the time
  • Morrowind's or Oblivion's animations, with a great emphasis on Morrowind's
  • Morrowind's uninteractive lockpicking
  • the well-lit atmosphere of Morrowind's dungeons
  • Morrowind's combat/stealth/magic systems
  • Oblivion's level-scaling

What don't I want from Morrowind? Let's see:

-Morropedia-style dialogue
-Having to assume a 'casting stance' to cast spells
-the lack of magicka regeneration
-the incredibly subdued color palate
-Cliff Racers
-and the general slow, clunky feel the gameplay had

That should cover the major ones.

Are you a cliff racer in disguise...?

- The bad and uninspiring combat dialogue: "It's about time I had some fun!" (I don't know how many times a bandit would say that...).
- Revamp the combat music so it doesn't initiate when measly rat or worm agro you a mile away (also an issue in Oblivion).

I'll list more ideas when I think of them.

Morrowind's way of dealing with stolen items: Steal one instance of any item, all of them are marked as stolen. You can throw the stolen item away, find a new one legally, and have it taken from you when you're arrested.

And mods couldn't fix that either. Only OpenMW can save us now...

  • An expansion pack where an assassin, much more powerful than you, will murder you the first time you rest out of the door from the census office of Seyda Neen.
  • Leveling up skills was too slow (maybe it's not, I need to play it further again).
  • The running speed was ridiculously slow, even with 100 speed.

All of this. And (please don't kill me) levitation. At least not levitation in the way it was used in Morrowind. I just didn't like the way it was implemented.

Yea i dont know if levitation is a good idea in Skyrim because making mountains to end the map will be pointless if you can fly over them and see beneath them.
