What Game Are You Playing For Brink?

I have played the game. Your argument is invalid.

Nobody knows how the BRINK gameplay will feel. Actually, the testers will, but as for 'feel' I think it's something that cannot be described unless you have a really quality player explaining the game. Since I've never heard of a skilled FPS player being hired to test an FPS game and report on it, I imagine we'll just have to wait and see.
I've burnt out on BC2 about a month back, been playing Monday Night Combat and Breach since. These games stretch a very wide FPS gameplay gap. I'm sure as soon as BRINK comes out I will have an arm and a leg up on just about most people. But that will mostly just be from playing FPS games for a over a decade.

Well myself, and others on this forum, not only have decades of FPS experience, but also extensive exposure to SD's previous games, which follow the same fundamental gameplay formula as Brink. Where you may understand the the basics, such as aiming and shooting, we will enter the game already knowing pretty much how an entire match is going to play out. We will know what class does what objective, how missions work, how to already play classes effectively, we will already be used to the "too many bullets to kill" mechanic, what most of the HUD elements are, etc.

So whatever "leg up" you may have on the competition, chances are, veterans of SD games will have 2 legs up on you - wrapped around your neck, putting you in a headlock.

How is breach? I downloaded the free demo but not the full game and haven't tried it. Is it good?

Reinstalled Enemy Territory and Quake Wars

@Wraith: Breach isn't a very good game in it's current state

i'm playing dc universe online....it's not fps, the multiplayer isn't even remotely team or objective based, and the shooting takes more bullets to kill than seems practical to even carry.

but it's gonna take me a while to finish it and skyrim isn't here yet to hoover up my non work hours yet.

DCUO is an MMO..... the PvP in MMO's always svck.

I'm just playing the ETQW demo since it's a previous SD game and seems like it'd be like Brink fundamentally.

I'm not going to 'practice' for Brink but as it happens I picked up Mirror's Edge during the holiday Steam sale and I started playing it yesterday - fun game!

In between now and Brink's release I've got a number of Bioware RPGs I missed (ME, ME2, DAO) that I've got queued up. Of course I'll only get to them if I can drag myself away from Minecraft. :D

Is minecraft any good? From what I saw, it has NES graphics and makes completely no sense to me.

Minecraft is great if you like to build things, it's sort of like legos I guess except you have to harvest your legos.

I particularly like Minecraft because it's something I can play with my five-year-old, for some reason I just don't feel comfortable playing Fallout New Vegas while he's in the room :D however I've played it quite a lot even by myself. It paraphrase the recent Zero Punctuation review, it is the sort of game where you need to have a project - the game won't give you a specific goal, it just gives you the tools or the toy box and lets you muck about yourself.

I didn't mind the graphics but I understand sensitivity in this regard. I don't like NetHack-esq ASCII graphics so I avoided DwarfFortress when people were raving about it. DF does sound like a ton of fun but I couldn't get beyond the graphics so I never tried it.

Breach is a little sloppy, the developers know how to program, but not how to make a fun game.
Gameplay is sloppy, weapons are not balanced, and weapons all have a low skill peak. You hit the ceiling fast

At the moment I'm not really going to "practise" for Brink, but I'll be playing the more Brink-ish games soon to get in form.

Those will be: Unreal Tournament 3, TimeSplitters Future Perfect, Bulletstorm and some Killzone 3.

I'd say best way to practice for Brink overall would be Crysis 2, Mirror's Edge, and ETQW.

Minecraft's awesome, I wish all devs had Notch.

I won't really call it training for brink, but I'm really having fun with the Forgotten Hope 2 mod for Battlefield 2. That game really makes you want to play as a team or you won't stand a chance.

I'm playing TF2 on the PC (the updates are fun and hilarious).

Ugh, they personally disgust me. To each his own, I'm not trying to start a flame, I just cannot stand the updates. Several of my friends think they're the newest thing since sliced bread though lol.

On topic, though, I've been playing a mix of Halo Reach, QuakeLive (CTF only, I don't like straight up FFA, TDM, or even CA for that matter), and Left4Dead2 to get my FPS skills back up and to get moderately back into shape with the teamwork aspect.

P.S. Getting back into Borderlands again soon to hit up the 2 latest DLCs to bust the 50 cap B)

Mirrors edge and COD and BFBC2.
COD for some fast shooting BCBF@ for some tactical thinking as well as BF: Project Reality and obviously mirrors edge for some free running.

I'm not playing anything to practice for Brink, since I have countless hours of W:ET and ETQW under my belt and to me, that is the best "practice" anyone can have.

I think veterans of SD's games are going to have an advantage (even if only a slight one) over everyone else when the game releases, but only in the beginning. Also, people who have been following the game and have an understanding of how things work like objectives, SMART, classes, weapons, etc. will have an advantage as well.

I'm gonna get the xbox TF2 but everyone on the boards keeps getting bent out of shape about it.

big mistake, on xbox the community it dead and it gets no updates, if you can deffinitely get it on pc, new maps weapons and updates.
