What to get ? PC or XBOX ?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 5:44 am

Hey guys, I have a question.
What version should I get ? PC or XBOX ?

I'm more of a PC guy, but after all of these Console Ports ( hell even Portal 2 has some issues.. FOV and "Don't turn off your console" is making me mad.. ) I'm considering getting the XBOX version.

What do you guys think ? Will the PC-Version be a crappy port ? Fallout NV was alright, still had a few console touches that bothered me..

Xbox player here.

Don't be a friggin' moron! Get it on PC, bro. You get mods,a nd it'll probably look better and load faster too. If the option to get it on PC is available, then you shouldn't even need to ask the question. Hell, the only reason I'm getting it on Xbox is because my PC has the processing power of a rat's ear.

Significantly better graphics, less load lag, mods, and better control methods? It's not even a fair comparison.

Where do people keep getting this "port" nonsense? Has everyone gone full [censored]? Creation Kit (aka the modding tools) = PC-only, because the game is made on PC using those tools, therefore if there's any porting going on it's the PC version getting ported to the consoles, sheesh!

PC and not for the same reason everyone think is important (some people say it's all about mods, which tends to get out of hand with some people) but it's the flexibility of the PC. You can attach it to your TV and play it as if you were playing on the PC with a controller but have better graphics than the consoles and you can also get updates easier as well. Also, mods are there for you as well.

PC.

There's no disadvantage (assuming you have a PC capable of running the game well). You could always plug in an Xbox controller if Skyrim favours it over a mouse & keyboard.

Totally depends what format your more used to

Go for PC - even on medium detail should look better than the console version.

Less retail price + better over all control n grfx, PC FTW <3

Never thought of that...

Imagine 1080p quality...

Yeah, I would say it will probably look better graphically, and you can always use mods. Also you could make use of the console in case there any glitches/bugs, or you just want to mess around.

Off topic: I have been thinking of getting one. They seem slightly expensive (or were when I last looked). I hear that they degrade over time? Is that true?

They are pretty expensive in comparison to their storage capacity (such as you can get 1TB hard drive for like 50 or 60 bucks while a 256GB SSD will run you around $460). I've never heard of them degrading over time or any static storage device for that matter. Though I would say they would degrade after writing and deleting info many times over but HDDs do the same, that would be the only degradation I know of. The cost is negligible in light of the fact that the transfer rate of an SSD is 6GB/s and your computer will start up and be completely loaded in 10 sec.

I`ve got a half decent PC and Xbox but I`m getting it on Xbox first.

I`d prefer to relax on the sofa and play it on the big TV with controller ,as I sit at the PC all day working and damn my wrists ache  .

You can relax on the sofa and play on the big TV with a controller with the PC version as well. A half decent PC should run just as well if not better than a console.

Theoretically, each little flash chip only has so many reads and writes before it dies. This was an issue with first-generation SSDs, for a few reasons - OS' didn't treat them any differently to regular drives, so certain areas got hammered and would die faster, and the chips themselves had newer cycles before they'd die. With newer generation drives, the projected lifetime is actually larger than the amount of time they've been out, so we have no real practical data for real-world usage.

True. I used to play all the previous TES games on PC but eventually got fed up with crashes to desktops (most noticeably Oblivion) etc and now just prefer the hassle free option of Consoles now.

Skyrim looks great on Xbox, so i reckon i`ll be happy enough with it.

As an xbox user i would say buy a PC. Though PC gaming isn't always a bed of roses. It's all well and good for people to turn around and say "get PC because of mods"...There's more to it than that, and they know it. Console's are easy to use,put the game in and off you go. PC gaming though better, is different. There are times when you need a little bit of patience. Not all mods are compatable with each other, some enhance your experience, some don't agree with your system. I used to play PC games a long time ago,and it's very enjoyable, when thing's run smoothly.

Overall,i'd say get a PC,it's a no brainer really. But it's not always as straight forward as console gaming, especially if you're new to it. There's always help out there, don't get me wrong. You can have problems at times, you can even see that if you look on these forums about tech issues etc. But please, bare in mind i don't want to put you off,i'm being realistic here. But as i've said the PC option overall is the best option, because it gives you more options, and better graphics. I try to be fair when advising people ,they should know the up's and downs.

It's all down to you at the end of the day,are you patient, are you mad on better graphics and mods? When everything runs fine PC gaming is great experience,no doubt about it.But i think advice should be more than just ,yeah get PC because of mods, there's more to it than that. If money isn't an issue go for PC,because you'll learn as you go along anyway, and as i've said, you do have access to alot of options. :)

I'm actually gonna get the XBOX version, even though I'm a PC dude. The reason is that I can't afford a new and improved PC in due time, so I'll wait with that. But believe me, when the time comes, I'll definitely buy the PC version as well.

Just think about it - a 360 costs about $300 and a new top-tier PC can cost as much as five to six times that price if not more.

If I don't count monitor and input devices I can build you a pc for about 800€ that can play every game maxed out in the next few years.
PCs are more expensive than consoles, but by far not as many imagine.

A PC for 1500 or more will be overkill for every game nowadays and in the next few years. It's not necessary to spent that much money if you want to play with just one monitor with 1920x1080.

A top tier PC? Sure. A PC that'll max out almost every video game in existence, certainly including skyrim? Try closer to $600.

Pc has a mouse while consoles have thumbsticks. If you say you're a pc gamer than it should be obvious that using a mouse is much more fluent and realistic compared to thumbsticks. I guess you could get a mouse for your console too somehow, but then you'd have the exact same thing as a Pc gamer but without the mods and better graphics.

Why someone would even consider to get the game on a console if he knows what pc gaming is like perplexes me.
