Ok so i'm trying to kill some stuipid bandit and he hits me with his hammer and i like... i don't know fall through the ground or something, i can't move. and he kills me in 3 shots. I start off with a bow, take out half of his health, i switch to my sword and go to town on him, i run away if i'm lucky, drink like 4 health pots, then he teleports infront of me and kills me... he's nothing special just a bandit by the second town you go to... what's the deal?

You're not falling into the ground. Your character is literally collapsing to the floor from all of the physical punishment he's receiving.

All I can tell you to do is to either improve your character so you can win against the bandit in a fair fight, exploit the game's limited AI to inflict massive damage to his person while he can't strike back, or run and run and run awaaayyyyyy

The deal is, just because you find it early on, it doesn't mean you can kill it. Getting slaughtered by some lame bandit is normal. Go train, get better gear, plan your tactics for the fight, and come back to crush him when you're a bit stronger.

Early in the game, when pretty much every shot at you goes fully through (because of your character's general patheticness), a strong guy with a heavy weapon can flatten you easily. My advice is get him from the distance, and if you can't, get a decent weapon, find some way to increase your strength and paralyze the bastard - this way you can hit strong enough to lay him low before he shakes it off, just like he's been doing to you.
