What is a good vampire overhaul?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:14 pm

Is there any good vampire overhauls? That are up to date? I know of Unholy Darkness which looks freakin awesome...sadly with no job and barely paying the bills and that doesn't include food, I can't even afford the 10 dollars it costs to get it. Looks like it has tons of features and what not, but they don't have any public download or anything.

Any other good ones?

The cost part of Unholy Darkness is the voice files only. All the mod is up there for free because it is illegal to make a profit off of a user-made mod.

Except the .esp is hidden until you buy the voice files now.

Taking a look at their , it seems pretty shady. Charging money for mods is a huge no-no and while he's not charging for the .esp per se, I wouldn't want to try that tango with Bethseda's legal eagles.

Unfortunately I can't help you with your search....I haven't been 100% satisfied with any of the vampire overhauls for Oblivion.

yeah, you have to pay to download the .esp files now.

A bit weird since as some of mentioned, I thought Bethesda didn't like that.

I played UD without the voice files and I didn't really care for it. You could tell a lot of work went into it, but it wasn't really my thing.

Anyway, to answer the OP - CD Vampires and Terran Vampires both sound nice. Never played em though.

Oh wow. I did not know that he charged for the .esp. I haven't actually downloaded it myself but that is not legal as far as I'm aware. I was, honestly, a little disoriented when he charged for the voice files but knowing that he charges for the .esp is kind of upsetting. I understand that he put a lot of work into but so have many other modders on many other projects and they didn't get anything for it...

You might check http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1101083-starx-vanilla-vampires-revised/ out. I haven't personally, but it didn't look too over the top :) The guy that did UD was just too full of himself for my tastes I'm afraid...

Well, here's how he phrases it:
  • Due to limited spare time to support the mod, we are no longer offering the esp and art files to people who do not order the voice acting and sound effects. Make no mistake, we are not charging for the esp or the artwork, but have chosen not to distribute them publicly any longer. So when you order the voice files, you will get links to the free esp and art content.

I guess that whether or not that constitutes charging for a mod is left up to interpretation.

Wow.... That is a very very twisted view of justifying it. But, whatever, I can't do anything about it. :)

So you must pay $9.99 to get the esp and texture files. How on earth can you find an interpretation where that is not charging for it? It is free, but you have to pay to get them

I'm playing my game with SVVR(linked above), and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22501. With this combination, I got cool abilities for my vampires and cool abilities for NPC vampires, and both of them are free.

just to spite the guy for doing this, i might find a working torrent with the mod and start hosting it everywhere. i respect him for creating it for people to use, but not for trying to bend copyright laws.

I think it would be awesome, if possible, to include a check for that mod within OBSE since it states OBSE as a requirement.

if Unholy Crappymod.esp = installedthen OBSE functions are disabledelse Proceed as normal

You get the idea. That would make the mod utterly useless.

How stupid to charge for mods, not to mention the legality of it. Anyway I'd just like to take this oppurtunity to thank all of the great mod authors out there that spend their free time creating such wonderful mods for everyone to use. Thanks! :foodndrink:

I've read his forum - he is stating that he is not charging for the files only access to the download link.

He already has people who rally behind him on this decision and since they pay money they will have more sway.

But he also stated that if doing this did not earn him money then he would return to giving it away. And as soon as he starts working on part 2 and it is in beta then part 1 will be free again.

So there is your answer - don't buy it and it will become free. It is not required to buy anything.

That it sells at all should be a major message to Bethesda that people still love this game, that they are willing to pay for more content, that extended support for further official updates has a market. But no they won't listen to that because console heads are dumb enough to pay for dumber less costly, less detailed games.

Charging money for mods is a huge no-no

Indeed, we don't want any discussions about it here.
