What got you started?

Ok people for the love of goodness please dont derail whats been a perfectly good thread into another "new school vs old school" thread. We've already had more than enough of them to have figured out that the two sets of fans will never agree on how the series should be ran.

Thank you.

If your so quick to point out things that are "silly" in every game, then I think you may not have a firm grip on what the Fallout series is.
They all contain these elements because they are a part of the series. "Silliness" to an extent, is a part of it.
If your protesting against those things then your protesting against the series itself.

You know what I mean, I can for example suspend my disbelief over D.C. looking rather intact for the Capital after a nuclear war because the setting is striking and well realised; but there's suspension and just pulling stuff out of your ass, Liberty Prime was unfixable by the two largest robotics corporations and the US Army yet the Brotherhood can just fix it at a moment of plot convienience?

You're looking at it very narrow minded. Have you never thought about how long the brotherhood has been working on prime. The brotherhood found prime twenty years before they fixed it. You don't know how close it was to completion from what I gathered everything was done just needed to manage power.

Exactly, the pre-war world had access to the entire resources of the entire industrial power of the United States, they needed some fancy top-of-the-range components from Sun Valley - that place where House had the Chip made - then they could get them made and sent over; the BoS is repairing a machine with whatever 200 year old components it can scrounge exclusively from the D.C. area and get's it from not operational to be used in a warzone instantly.

Sigh, well if you cant beat em join em. The thing about Liberty Prime is we have no idea how close the pre war government was to actually getting him running, it could have literally only been a matter of days. It took the Brotherhood the better part of twenty years to get him running and even then it took one of the greatest minds post war in Dr Li to figure it out. And lets not forget either its not like there were huge pieces of him missing, the only problem they were having was power manegment, the Brotherhood, a group dedicated to pre war tech, really should have been able to get him running SOONER than they did, it shouldn't have took them as long as it did.

Bethesda won't "learn" anything from these forums, and rightfully so.
What the Dinosaurs here don't seem to realize is that they are in the minority, go take a stroll through some other places that talk about Fallout, YouTube or Gamespot for instance.
Bethesda will stick to their formula for FO4, keep some of the minor improvements NV made with weapon modding and such, and they will reek in the dough from it.
Because in the end, it doesn't matter what a few loud mouthed whiners on an internet forum think, in the end, all that matters is this:

http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/links/fallout3-awards.php

You're completely forgetting the big picture here. Either buckle down and accept the series will never be what you want it to be, or stop complaining about every little thing that happens. We couldn't even get through the Old World Blues Qore preview thread yesterday without you pouting about something. It's getting tiring.
I really have no desire to be rude, but I am just beyond sick of people complaining...it's old..

Im not sure if this is in the right place or not.
But any way, I was a TES fan, and when I saw bethesda was makin a new game, I thought"why not try it". After playing the hell out of fallout 3, I got 1 playthrough each on fallout 1 and 2(loved them). I tried tactics, but didnt enjoy it as much, so didnt finish playthrough. Brotherho..uhh I mean "the burned game", didnt look very good even though(I think)it was in texas(my state). Then I got NV, and have played, and continue to play, the crap out of it to this day. Cant wait for OWB, LR, and...... Skyrim and Fallout 4 :tes: :fallout:

Long story short I started with three, loved it, bought one and two, enjoyed them MUCH more, and well, yeah. Also, I just love post-apocalyptic story telling.

I enjoy 1, 2, and NV more than 3. Why is this? Because the logic in FO 3 was just, well, illogical.
Beth said "These guys are good, and these guys are bad. If your a slaver, that means your a sadist and likely worship satan, any raider in existence only wants to kill people and isn't trying to survive, they just want you dead." Also, it felt like the bombs had just dropped a few months ago, its been 200 years, society should have made some advances by then. Also I found the "super mutant threat" to be just idiotic. With humanities numbers and equipment, they could easily wipe out those mutants without the Brotherhoods aid. Also also, D.C. should have been a vast ocean of nothing, bleak and hollow. D.C. would have been hit the hardest and none of the monuments would have survived.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed 3, I just disliked the form it was done in. Also, the dialouge in 3 was just unrealistic and over dramatic

"A BOY A BUEATIFULL HEALTHY BABY BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I don't see what. A difference in opinion, maybe?

The Enclave, I understand what you're getting at with Liberty Prime, but I don't really think the lack of explanation as to why they got it running was really nonsensical or anything, just not thorough. That's something that I don't mind as much as I do continuity errors, black and white storytelling, plots that don't make any sense, etc. As much as I wish some things from the originals would return, a lot of the things we're asking (like competent storylines, choices) are absolutely compatible with Bethesda's formula.

To Carolina, and I suppose anyone else, we are all entitled to our opinions and we will discuss those opinions about this series on the discussion board for this series if we want to. If you don't like anybody's complaining, get over it. This is the nature of a forum and it is not going to change to your liking just as Fallout isn't going to change to, well, anyone's liking.

@ Mr Enclave and Martyr, you know I figured two guys as knowledgeable as you two would have been old school fans of the series instead of new comers who played the originals after getting Fallout 3 like me.

Well to be technical, my interest in Fallout 3, prior to it's release, got me to pick up Fallout 2 - even when I was 14 I still loved lore and backstory to death, I have a better understanding now though - but regardless it was Fallout 3 that first introduced me to Fallout in general; and I suppose I have to thank Oblivion for making me give Fallout a second look, well I don't know I fell in love with BioShock in an entirely similar way and I suppose I was even younger then... any way, kudos to Fallout 3!

I get the same thing sometimes when I tell people that I'm British and not an American, with my love of the Encalve you know.

EDIT: I do love that 'Mr Enclave' people keep calling me now :spotted owl:

Hey guys, just because I have been playing Fallout games since the week after the Original released and I was old enough to buy beer does not make me an old complaining dinosaur!

I'm Aging and I'm ok with that.

Now to chime in, Fallout 3 did go a little on the silly side when it came to some things, but nowhere near what that which shall not be named did. The whole Mothership Zeta thing for instance, way silly. I too thought Harkness didn't quite fit Fallout lore, but hey I went with it. I still enjoyed Fallout 3 and it felt VERY Falloutesque, at least this ancient grizzled old coot thinks so.

Usually when something is "resurrected" and redone it svcks so bad people forget it. In the case of Fallout 3, I think it managed to advance some stories nicely, like Vault-Tec lore.

All in all I like what both Bethesda and Obsidian have done with my favorite game franchise, Like I said, some of it I may not think fits totally but for the most part they have the tone, feel, and themes down perfectly.

Now settle down you whippersnappers

Dunno if it was Fallout 1 or Fallout 2 just a few years after they were released. Anyways, my brother had burned copies of them he got from a friend. And I pretty much grew up in my brother's lap in the 90's as he sat infront of the PC. He played a lot of games and I watched, and when he wasn't there, I tried playing them myself. Probably around 10 years old and below by then. Well, I didn't understand much. Fallout's got a really steep learning curve for people who know how to play games, and me as a little kid who barely knew english trying to play a complicated RPG... well, I don't think I did much right but... Many years later, still well before Fallout 3, I installed Fallout 2 I think it was, and played it. Much better this time, but still like a moron. Still loved Fallout though, the whole atmosphere and backstory. That's what I like. Today, I am a big fan of the post-apocalyptic and of black humor. Then I read about Bethesda, the makers of TES: Oblivion (heard of neither company nor game before) were developing a new Fallout game. I was very happy, pictures looked nice and I didn't knew anything about Bethesda (I dislike fantasy games quite a lot, which might be a reason. It's the damn magic, pesky elves, weird races and the objectifying of women that's in all fantasy games.)

Oh, and on the topic of Optimus Liberty Prime. I dislike him not because how the BoS got him working so timely is silly (which it is), but because I think he himself is silly. Just gives me too much of a Transformer feel, and there are too many explosions (one of two things men apparently likes - big booms and big boobs) and he just feel like a weird super weapon to face the Chinese in war with. Sure, cheesy 50's Sci-Fi and spouting anti-commie oneliners is Fallout. Whatever. The other reason, and actually the biggest one, that I dislike him is that he made the ending so easy. It was the easiest ending in any game ever. He just walked ahead of you, shot down Vertibirds with his lazer eyes and threw nuclear bombs at the bad guys. You didn't have to fire a shot, he killed them all for you. And well in the purifier, there's Augustus... who you just talk out of the whole thing if you love the Speech skill like I always have. Lamest boss battle evah?

Around 1999, with Fallout 2. I was a big fan of Steve Jackson Games, and I was miffed when Fallout 1 ended up not using the rules from GURPS so I never bought it when it came out. My friend did, and kept telling me about how good it was, but I didn't really pay attention. Some time later I bought a new computer and was at a store looking for a new game, and I saw Fallout 2. I said, "ahh, what the hell", and bought it. Once I started playing it, I couldn't stop. Been a Fallout junkie ever since.

1996 a friend from school came along... he said you gotta try this... copied then played it until the cdrom worn away (later I bought fallout1 & 2)...

"Why?" I do not know... just had to try it... my addiction started then...

I'm not so attached to new series (3&NV). Not that I hate them, though... I mean times change... but I find the replay value a bit low.

But NV was an definitely an improvement... lots of nostalgia came back to life...

Fallout 3 I played twice (Vanilla&Goty) & NV 4 times just to see what the different endings were like. The classics I've gone through endless of times, ...

Recently started a new session of Fallout 2. My favorite one in the series... although, FO1 was darker + had elements of misery/mystery...

But I like the Monty Python goofiness in Fallout 2. :)

Sure at the time they be Doubloons but now after careful consideration and maybe a few drinks (Root beer honest) I am certain that there were in fact Nuka cola victory caps and that I actually invented the game.. uhh wheres my money

err also reading the Wizard of Oz messed me up pretty good and started me down this dark path.
