I think its the fact that I loved all reptilian things when I was little, and seeing the Argonian for the first time (In Oblivion) brought the inner kid out of me again!

I think it may be the result of forum brainwashing for me. I thought they were ok for the most part but it was a pretty shallow decision to use one because they don't have much to offer as a playable race. You can just enchant things to resist disease and breathe underwater; what else are they good for? I remember that they were the first thing I chose to play in Oblivion just because they looked cool. That was it. Plain and simple. Now that I see they're a favorite amongst fans, I just sort of blend in with the group.

In other words, I'm an Argonian drone.

OP, what makes a Dunmer or Nord wicked or badass? They look like just plain, boring humans/human-looking elves to me. Argonians look both wicked and badass though. I don't understand someone wanting to play as an ordinary looking human, there's nothing special about it.

Because they look cool, and they are totally just helpless victims to those Dunmer bastards. And all kinds of other games let me play as elves and humans, but not as lizards.

^That's mostly what I hear from Argonian fans.

Hey now, I think they make great slaves after you break them in.

I personally don't see the overwhelming interest, or at least some of the reasons behind them. Aesthetic purposes? Sure. Lore? Why not. But when people defend the abilities I get a little twitch in my right eye. Their racial abilities are just... useless.

How many games let you play a lizard versus a typical humanoid or elf?

There is the answer.
This, and http://old.eqcircle.com/iksar/index.htm I have a bit of an attachment towards lizard races as such.

I'm personally pretty indifferent to them....so long as they don't come within five feet of me I'm alright with them.

Wow, I sound like a real ass here lately.....I started playing as an Altmer in all my MO/OB games as soon as I saw the Skyrim preset screens and I think their haughty-ness is rubbing off on me. May as well embrace it. My love for the Dunmer also contributes to my venom for the lizard folk...

I can't stand those filthy lizards!

Ooops.

But, as a side note, I have had several Argonian fans tell me that I lack imagination sense I don't like Argonians, because my feeble mind just can't grasp playing as something that isn't an elf or human (despite the fact that I regularly roll Khajiit), which makes me hate the lizards even more.

I just hate them for role-play reasons, I don't really have anything against them.
Like other have said, personal preference.
Dunmer and Argonian. < Breton and Redguard.

Renegade shadowscale quest in Oblivion.

And if you say magic is why your argument is true (no lore backing that up, btw) then I could say the same thing. But the fact is that there is physical evidence of warm blooded Argonians.

I am not arguing EITHER WAY, I am saying there is no evidence in the lore for either (I never once said that they are cold blooded).... As for the "heart," that is not quite hard evidence... The developers probably did not wish to create a model for a single instance of an unimportant quest item that you only have for all of a minute..... (This is a game, there are priorities) In a fictional world of magic, a four chambered heart is not proof of warm blood....

Oh, and in the lore, Cyrodiil is a jungle, but in Oblivion, it was not. I suppose that trumps all the establish official lore, as there is "physical evidence" that Cyrodiil is not a jungle..... Whatever...

At the end of the day, NOBODY knows for sure.... At least I don't pretend that I do....

WHY DO YOU CARE?

honest question. not understanding is the first step to ignorance. if you already have a predisposition towards something why do you expect the opinion of another to alter that?

I agree
Argonians aren't my 1st choice, still if others prefer them I wish them much happiness with them. I'll just get on with my game

I personally just can't find myself attached in any way to RP a nonhuman (Orc at the most extreme) character. For me, playing a bipedal cat or lizard just doesn't seem to make sense, however grounded in the lore they may be. I always found Argonians and Khajiits to be rather humorous or awkward. That said, I do like how the Argonians and Khajiits look this time around, and they are more appealing. However, I still think the female variants of the beast races still suffer from that typical awkward humour I mentioned. The female Khajiits look like chubby-cheeked kittens, almost as though the devs just tried their hardest to streamline the male face into something as "female" as possible, without actually referring to what a female feline looks like in reality. Same goes for Argonian females. They still mildly remind me of the female Argonian faces from Oblivion. Wide set eyes and that dumbfounded, blank stare. Almost like they were just trying to fit a lizard face into a slightly more shapeless version of a human head (which is most definitely the constraints they had to work with due to the skeletal structure as well as allowing all of the armor pieces to fit properly).

I also find it rather awkward, and a real immersion-breaker for me, that the body model is identical across the board. The Orc's body looks the same as the Nord's body, which looks identical to the Khajiit's body, with the exception of a different texture applied to the geometry. For instance, in third person view, the video that was leaked with the Khajiit character creation and a few tidbits of combat and game play.. It honestly just looked like a Nord or any other human race, wearing body paint that resembled a feline's fur patterns.

Anyhow, that's just my 2 cents. With that said, however, I may dabble as a male Khajiit just to see how it plays, and as far as I am willing to give it credit for, the male variants of the race do have a very tiger-like physique to them (if only an illusion executed exceptionally well even within the geometry constraints).

It's called Everquest/Everquest II. I don't know if it's free or not.

Omg I wake up, and I see this thread.

Reasons I like Argonians.

1. They have the most interesting, and mysterious lore out of all the races(imo)
2. I tend to like Argonian characters personalities in the games, and the books more than the other races.
3. Fun, useful abilities
4. I have zero interests in playing a human, or an elf. Humans are boring, and played out(imo), and the only elf race I really like is Dunmer. But they're history doesn't really interest me. Plus they can get pretty jerkish, and arrogant.
5. They look like freakin dragons now, what other playable race can beat that?

Fictional world of magic or not, it is based on real world physics, including the physics of life and death, and based on that as well as what I have said earlier, that is quite enough proof of being warm blooded.

Oh, and in the lore, Cyrodiil is a jungle, but in Oblivion, it was not. I suppose that trumps all the establish official lore, as there is "physical evidence" that Cyrodiil is not a jungle..... Whatever...

Oblivion was not the first TES game to break the lore on some level. Regardless, the very existence of argonians in cold areas IN LORE establishes that they are not cold blooded, or they would not survive outside of catosis or hibernation.

At the end of the day, NOBODY knows for sure.... At least I don't pretend that I do....

Fair enough, but that is still just your opinion. Every Argonian I have ever played has been warm blooded. Like the one who went through pale pass in oblivion, where no cold blooded creature could survive, or the one who was a sorcerer with a 100 intelligence; an impossible intellect for a cold blooded creature, or the ones I killed that sprayed blood as only a warm blooded creature can! If you want to RP a cold blooded Argonian, you are in for a true challenge, I can assure you that!

People love having novelty race perks like 100% immunity to poison even though races without it don't even suffer more than a sneeze when poisoned.

There were no argonians in the Illiac Bay (if my memory serves me rightly), save the Player (if he chose to)

They were in DF as opponents and not as a playable. Sort of alligator looking if I remember correctly.
