What Grinds Your Gears?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:06 pm

You know, it just occurs to me that I don't really know any native English words that rhyme with niche, other than perhaps 'sheesh'... Though that one is a made-up word anyhow. Other than that, they all seem to come from French (like quiche). So I suppose I can forgive them for their most heinous mispronunciation in this case.

Well, niche is French anyway.

Bieber fever

Yes

Since I'm Canadian, I have to suffer through local media about him and his movie lately. -_-

Justin Bieber is nothing more than a hack on the pop music industry and an arrogant jerk in general. Tired of seeing the media promote and advertise this jerk. Don't understand why a movie was made about him when the time, film, money resources could be used for something better, entertaining and makes sense. While pop music may not fade, the people eventually do until the next kid comes around. Bieber is so "famous" because so many preteen people have this inane fantasy that he actually cares about them. All he cares about is the money, all the "industry" cares about is the money and the set that likes him has spending power. The movie was made to cash in quick. But these things are mostly cyclical, and he'll fade away soon enough. Sadly, people like us get to be inundated with this garbage until the ride is over. The only major fans he attracts are preteen people, who tend to be a very shallow audience and are easily impressionable to like whoever the pop star is. The major problem is he will be not simply fade in their shallow minds, he will be replaced with another boy or boy band to annoy those of use with 6th grade and higher educations. He's just another recyclable commodity like most of this teeny, pop idols. be replaced by another "farmed" individual that meets the current needs of the music industry today. People are attracted to these individuals, Can I really call them that though? Especially when they don't write their own music or lyrics.

People who have been skiing for half a day and go HURR DURR I CAN SKI BACKCOUNTRY SOLO and go down the difficult runs and crash.

I apologize for any inconvenience my suicidal overconfidence may have caused you. I just want to have fun and see how close I can get to grievous bodily harm without actually crossing the "My femur is rubbing against my spleen" line.

Downloading a remix and having it turn out to be a bunch of "OOMP THUMP"s with about 5 seconds of the original melody looped over and over.

Now why did i think of Hybrid Remix of FSOL's Papua New Guinea when reading that? :lmao: (actually, i like it though the ending drags on for too long :whisper:)

The phrase grinds you gears.

People being rude for the sake of being rude, thinking it makes them smarter / funnier / cooler / more part of the mob.

When people don't wash their hands.

People that react without thinking or knowing what they're reacting to.

People who try to pass every car on the highway. But in the end there only a few cars up in front of the same red light.

Really, you got there a split second earlier? Congratulations on how far you got, are you happy?

*Snip!*

Come to Quebec and you won't hear about him at all. ;) You'll mostly hear about our artists, but at least not him.

I don't mind that kid at all. He's just the pre-teen and teenage girl idol, just like the Backstreet Boys and the New Kids on the Block were in the 1990's. It's the same situation, but you have to replace A group of young advlts with a teenager. Nothing bad really.

In ten years from now, when these teenage girls (And the guys who like it of course) will go club that has "Retro 2010's music", they'll scream, they'll jump, they'll dance like crazy when a tune of Bieber will play. :D
Just like I go crazy when they play a Backstreet Boys or a Hanson Brothers song in 1990's nights.

Game bugs have been grinding my gears lately. In Alpha Protocol, at the end of the game, you have to destroy a certain boss with missile launchers you find around the area. The bug is, all rocket launchers I pick up have no rockets in them. And there are no cheats, no console commands, nada.

And then I decide to play some GTA San Andreas to lay off the steam. As I get a mission to go drop Triad leader Woozie at a warehouse around the block, both my character and him automatically get out of the car when we're at the location. But my character is stucked there. He can't move, I can't switch weapons, I can't do nothing. Damn it!

In both of these cases, I'll have to restart my game. I put 14 hours on Alpha Protocol and 26 hours on San Andreas. Damn it again!

In San Andreas there's a specific bug that make certain missions unplayable if you have the frame limiter off. Turning the frame limiter on just for that mission fixes it. But you'll still have to start from your last save.

Cliffworms reminded me of a funny yet ridiculous glitch I encountered back in GTA III.

I don't know exactly what caused this, I went to try and steal a taxi from the passenger side. But instead of kicking the guy out of the taxi I just froze in the passenger seat and could only change the radio. It was like http://gta.wikia.com/Claude just decided "Meh, I think I'll just take a ride for a while" Even though I had to reload a previous save it was worth it :lmao:

Oh wow. Thanks a lot Lemunde. I just tried it and it works. :D
Thankfully, I always save when I complete a mission, so I didn't lose anything.

Now, I know that the mission where you have to pilot a toy airplane to kill couriers will grind my gears. Air controls on PC have always svcked. :P

I know what you mean. I had to set the pitch controls to the extra buttons on the side of my mouse just so I could have full control at all times.

Ooh, ooh! This! But when you're doing just over 100kph (Maximum speed limit here) and they pass you, then slow down to 80kph. That grinds my gears so much I pass them again and usually an all out passing war ensues, unless I'm in a more powerful car and can just accelerate to stop them from passing me again.

Most of the western world has a problem with obesity not just America.

Canada,the UK,France,Germany.

Though it is a weird thing as someone could be 5'8 and weigh 180 lbs while being in shape and muscular and still be considered obese.

Then why is it that people always use "typical fat american" as an insult? That grinds my gears too.

Most of the time when people sling insults they go for the simplest most polarizing thing they can think of. Honestly it is just lazy.

Not much "grinds my gears" really.

Teacher: "Yeah, I know. And never use the word "actually" in a sentence, it sounds awful."

Wait, I do have just one;

Illogical and dismissive argument.

2 Main things:

1: When people give me wrong information.

2: When people are hypocritical.

Good luck in life.

Actually, US is quite a bit worse off from the countries you listed. http://eaves.ca/2008/07/08/fatness-index-canada-vs-united-states/ map is a little old but look at the difference between US and Canada. Europe also has lower rates then Canada, and although this isn't hard evidence from the times I've been to Europe there are a lot less fat people then in the US. Not that its only the US with problems, but they're the worst off and just driving a few blocks I think its pretty obvious why.

...well I would have to say people who go to work and knowingly spread sickness, then take off "sick" days when they're not... nosey, jealous, feces stirring "do gooders" always trying to bust somebody's hustle... court appointed lawyers (aka eggplants)... plastic people and yesmen... just to name a few.

When religious people give other religious people a bad name, like, I'm a christioan and very, very embarrased by other christians behaviour more often than not. Also when people get really freaked out when they find out I'm religious. Example: At a party recently I'm talking to someone every so often and got to know them alright, then they started ranting about christians having no life, I said: "Just saying, I'm a christian." and then they're just "WTF!?!" and look at me wierdly like I'm a completely different person to what I was 30 seconds earlier, that happened with four different people in the one night. I'M STILL THE SAME PERSON!!! Religious rant could go on but won't unless asked for.

The nerds at school that give all gamers a bad name, every lunch/recess they'll go to a computer room and play video games, and completely ignore the only good part of school - being social. Also this means that I can't admit that I'm a gamer without sacrificing a part of my social life, or that I like particular games that they obsess with (eg. Oblivion, minecraft). These are some of my favourite games, and very good games, but the only games I can admit to playing are COD, Halo and FIFA.

All in all naive people who unknowingly destroy any chance of being able to admit to being what you are and liking what you like.

Schools not teaching and people not knowing the difference between theory and fact.

I hate it when I tolerate/a social fail and then they act like I'm their best friend and pretty much stalk me.

On the fatness - I heard somewhere that Australia has the highest percentage of overweight people but USA's fat people are fatter.

Oh, man, I have a friend who goes totally over the top. As soon as she finds out someone is a Christian, she just flips her lid completely, yelling at them about how their religion is selfish and stupid for not allowing stem cell research, that evolution is real, that their God can't exist because of this, that and the other. It's actually slightly embarrassing because it is way over the top!
To stay on topic, it grinds my gears :P

This is why I'm rather reluctant to tell people my faith.

Things that grind my gears:

People who try to make me more social than I want to be. I find that I'm generally pretty much asocial.

A $60.00 1923 [letterpress printing] Type Specimen Catalog I ordered on eBay lost in the mail. It's only worth $60.00 because it was in poor condition. In good condition they are worth $200.
Insured? Nope. They suspect it's a thief in the mail processing center. This just happened yesterday.

When someone who has experienced a severe traumatic epsidoe that causes emotional distress, and are labeled "damaged goods"
That humanity can refer to victims of phsyical and sixual assualt in the same terms as nicked or dinged appliances irritates the holy hell out of me.
To imply that the thousands of human beings who go about their daily lives, having experienced such misery, and yet, do not perpetuate similar crimes, nor stoop to levels of violence using previous trauma as an excuse are thought of in the same manner as material good of less value than it's comparable models just pisses me off. Worth less value. DAMAGED GOODS YOU ARE.
Instead of oh holy [censored], that model took a licking and kept on ticking, like a timex. Go figure.
One would think that those humans with physical imperfections caused by dangerous activity should also be classifed as damaged goods. Broken limbs, lacerations, do those not equate to dents in the washing machine during shipping?
People are stupid. That, and when socks go missing irriates me.
