What Grinds Your Gears?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:42 am

This was on an old game forum I was a member of (Fable-2.com -- sadly, it doesn't exist now) and it was really popular as a place to come and share what parts of your real life really tick you off.

As for me, there's one guy in a few of my classes who's really perpetuating one of my biggest pet peeves -- namely, an idiot trying to look smart. Every time a teacher says anything, he shares how much more he knows about the subject (usually something he just read from a textbook), and his sentences always start with "actually". Example:
Teacher: "King Louis tried to escape from France by dressing as a woman, but someone recognized him and had him taken to the Bastille. That was pretty amazing, since they didn't have TV's or photos back then."
Guy: "Actually, that person had seen Louis's face on a coin."
Teacher: "Yeah, I know. And never use the word "actually" in a sentence, it sounds awful."

If only more teachers reacted that way to him, he'd shut up.

You wanna know what grinds my gears? When I get blamed for other peoples mistakes...

Im sitting in the library with my friends right; now naturally they're all joking around and laughing. I on the other hand am just sitting quietly, minding my own business, actually studying. Now, the librarian comes by and hears the noise.

Let me inform you of something, all my friends are on the sports team, big brawny guys. I on the other hand am just an average joe. So the puny scared librarian decided to diss me rather than the others! Why me!? Is that the reward I get for being decent? Getting the blame for their noise?!

What do I do? I rage God dammit! I rage all over her ass.. But then what happens? I get kicked out of the library! Me! The guy who was actually studying!! :banghead:

/rant

Now, I know my reaction was un-called for and that's why I got kicked out, so I know I was in the wrong, but still. :P

When people whine about trivial stuff.

It's annoying as hell, and I always reprimand myself when I catch myself doing it... Crap. =/

Apple products. Everything but their laptops (which are sixy) seem utterly pointless, yet people eat it up. I don't really even like iPods, mostly because I hate iTunes more than anything. Not to mention their whole iProduct gimmick.

Ok, I will tell you what grinds MY gears.

The whole idea that Disney World is supposed to be a wonderful, magical place that every kid dreams of going to.

HORSE [censored]!!

If you like waiting in long lines, in weather that is as hot as the hottest of summers up north (during early spring), with constant noise, and where it's easy to get lost, then good for you. I went there when I was 9 and hated it. I don't care if the laws of the universe dictate that a 9-year-old is supposed to love places like that. I didn't. And some people even think that I must be some spoiled ingrate just because "Oh, I would have done ANYTHING to go there when I was that age, but my parents couldn't afford it" and yada yada. Those people need to shut the [censored] up.

Faulty products.

I bought a couple pocket watches from e-bay in October. Neither work now. The winding mechanism failed on each. Good thing they were cheap, I guess.

I think it is time to end this sequence of threads, they are getting repetitive and some are getting niggly, drugs have been brought up, the old "smokers vs non-smokers arguments and the last quoted post.

Let's leave this topic for the next year at least.

I don't care what age you are when playing those games. As long as you are MATURE. When immature people play those games is what ticks me off.

Yep, and that was last July. It is the next year now and we decided to trust that this one would run more smoothly.

It grinds my gears when that trust is misplaced and I have to stop being cuddly. :D

People who think they're smarter than anybody else. The funny thing is that at some point you can see they're not that smart.

And another thing, that people from other races can make fun of white people but white people can't do it without being called racists.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mods! :wavey:

So I guess that leaves me here then...

What grinds my gears, is that threads feel like they happened more recently than I remember.

Things grinding my gears. Nothing irritates me more than when my stupid meatbag brain wastes precious time on being needlessly irritated when I know that the nuisance is no longer affecting me.

Nothing is worse than being in a bad mood, and not being able to take your mind off of it.

What grinds my gears?

1. Improper grammar. I don't mean when someone has typed something wrong.
2. Words like "lol", "wtf" and all that stuff. Which I don't really consider words to begin with.
3. People that are entirely intolerant to religion, and religious people that believe their faith is the correct one and regard any other faith as nonesense.
4. People that are similiar to me in too many ways. Nobody likes to literally face their bad qualities.
5. The inclusion of online multiplayer in most first-person shooter games, and lack of a proper story with characters (it doesn't have to be a novel, but still).
6. Being told I am wrong in a matter where things aren't so simple as "yes" or "no" and "true" or "false".

Everything and everyone, all the time. Especially you, reading this post right now. Oh, you'll get yours.

Most recently, mission-based games that don't have a save function during a mission and are also prone to crashing.

1. People who use the word "sick" as a definition of cool.

2. People who say "brb" while using the Facebook Chat/MSN Messenger and yet never tell you when they do come back, resulting in yourself thinking if they are truly back or not.

3. :gun: Miley Cyrus. An arrogant ahole (much like Justin) and her so called "music"

4. EA. The company and their games.

5. :flamethrower: Justin Bieber. An embarrassment to us Canadians and actual/real music.

All of these as well as ignorance because it is inevitably followed by argument which ends in a mental breakdown, shivering and sleepless nights as I know that I am right but they are unwilling to accept that.

Call of Duty as a social institution.
When people intentionally mispronounce things.
Awful grammar (I don't mean putting a preposition at the end of a sentence, I mean like "We didn't get no hamburger!")
When people respond to text messages with one letter.

Many more that I can not think of.
