As I do most nights, I lay awake and think about random things....Why do hamsters have pancakes on their heads....what kind of accent would a squirrel have.....(and after watching 5 straight hours of Gangland on the Hist. Chan) What kinds of groups in our society, could you see thriving in the universe of pipboys, FEV mutants, and power armor? I dunno if anyone will like this thread...or if someone will say something which will lock it...BUT, after you see that show, or watch people when you go to the grocery store, you will start to wonder this too!

Very lucky people...what kind of response are you thinking of? Seriously, mutations, mutants, bandits, slavers, homicidal clowns. Its a miracle anybody is alive in a world like that.

Oh and possibly the overly rich that can make their own vaults.

so clearly this is not at all related to Fallout New Vegas so I would have to agree that you don't know what kinds of people would survive in the FO universe yet. This should have been posted in the FO Universe subforum. Thanks have a nice day.
.
and squirrels would have a Jersey accent. Duh~

Narcissists can do real well in a crisis situation i've read.

Stay close to them, you'll never know.

I don't think there's any one type that would do particularly well in a post-apocalyptic world, I think we'd find that versatile people from many walks of life would find a way to adapt to their new environment.

what kind of accent would a squirrel have

Actually many birds and mammals (as well as some other critters) have regional accents.

Anyone who isn't in the United States. There would be no super mutants, no big ass scorpions, no power armored bad guys... And especially in Europe the society would be reconstructed rather well, assuming that common European nationalism remained in existence. Since Europe seemed to be a minor belligerent in the War, it could have done very well. (Especially traditionally neutral countries, like Finland, Austria, Sweden or Switzerland)

^ This.

Except Canada will probably have FEV ect.

Because during the war, (you obviously know this part) Its was annexed and ya'know.. Sort of counted as the States. Aswell as them having vaults there because of it.

I believe that nomad desert folk, and inuit people of today would have the best survivability in general. People used to harsh conditions as it is. They know what it takes to survive the weathers at least. put them together with some foreign legionaires and you got yourself the survivors of postapocalyptica.

Keyboard jockeys like you and I would probably die as soon as Woody Harrelson eats the worlds last twinky!

People "off the grid". Probably the Pennsylvania Dutch, Mennonites, Amish. They don't rely on modern technology like we do and they cooperate with each other more than most of us do. Hell, they can raise a big wooden barn in one day. I doubt the so-called survivalist groups would survive. Those idiots up in Idaho like to think they have what it takes but they are too dependent on modern technology.

Except FO canon says that the European commonewealth, after a long war with the middle east broke down into squabbling nation states.

I disagree, according to the Fallout Timeline, europe consisted of the european commonwealth (probably equivalent to the current EU) which disolved into quarraling bickering nation-states after the resource wars with the middel-east. Also we musn't forget the cold war and the huge diviation in the world between capitalist and communist states. I dont think it is wrongfull to assume that these gigantic blocks existed in the Fallout Universe just as they did in ours. This being said, on the outbreak of the Nuclear Apocalypse probably every nation on the northern hemisphere was completely destroyed by the Nuclear Firestorm, since virtually every nation was allied with one of the two super powers. This is very likely, first of all because of the cold war and even more because of the resource scarcities which propagated both the formation of economic and ideological blocks as well as the outbreak of major conflicts. Furthermore, the intro movies of both Fallout 2 and 3 state that after the Nuclear Firestorm a quiet darkness fell accros the planet, lasting many years, after which the inhabitants of the vaults only had the wastes to greet them. This implies that anyone living outside the vault or any other bunker with significant energy and supplies would certainly have died, because of the obvious nuclear winter.

Actually I think groups like the Amish would be worse off remember this is a survival disaster scenario, being able to use as much left over tech would be essential to survival. Ohhh and their pacifism wouldnt work out to well.

Un Ironically I think the militias and other separatists groups would do the best.

Except that last we heard of Europe they were pretty much tearing each other apart. Not trying to get into real-world politics or anything, but keep in mind that it hasn't been that long since European nations were at war (most recently, for example, Russia vs Georgia in 2008, or that whole mess in the Balkans back in the '90s), and I don't see why Fallout's Europe would be any more cohesive than our Europe.

Well I possibly can't get into a Vault. I would probably die during the war from radiation, try to stay alive in a Pulowski pod. And if I DO make it, I will freeze myself, thaw out and live safely in Megaton. Although a PIP-Boy would be a nice edition.

Sadly i have to say that most likely it would be people with access to weapons and lots of ammunition and the cold bloodedness and will to murder themselves access to anything they need and to opress others.

Anybody that's played Fallout. They should all know what to expect, and if they did what they did in the games, they should make it through. :toughninja:

Anyone who was REALLY paranoid and had thought about a nuclear war before it happened and had prepared for such.
If we look at point Lookout we have those Hillbillies. I live in Maine with many of those Hillbillies and I think they could put up a good fight, not an intelligent bunch, but a violent bunch.
Wealthy/Rich/Powerful people. They probably would have the money needed to get themselves into a vault, to build a vault for themselves, or be so important that they get brought to a secret location with lots of protection.

However this is all really difficult to think of because things like the FEV and ghouls are only fallout stuff. Unless the government does plan on making super mutants...

Bill Gates of course would become an Overseer. I'm hoping Vault 7 will fail horribly after a blue screen of death incident. >:) The survivors of this will form a town on the surface name Vista.

Why the Canadian rebels trying to fight off American Annexation. Hell our fore fathers didn't roll over when you invaded, I wouldn't either i'd head into the mountains with a rifle and some crackers, and I like to think future generations share the same kind of patriotism. Since this was most definitely a violent annexation as seen in Fallout 1 with the man in power armor executing a Canadian. I think the Natives would be the most well off. They'd be rare in the wasteland but i mean Native Americans the ones that can hunt with a bow and survive in the wild.

I'm guessing George Bush since he would kill everyone on sight.
