I checked the old hotmail account I use[d] here and found a notice from the guildwars2 site that my hotmail account had been suspended for infractions...currency and behavior?

Problem...I have never played guildwars2 ! I changed my hotmail account here pretty quick and googled my old account name but got zero hits.

I know Bethesda got hacked a while ago...but hijack my hotmail account just to play a guild wars 2 game???

There was a link to verify "my Account" but I did not click it...the return email address had a noreply on it so my query just bounced...

Anything like this happen to any of you?

One of my friends account was used to spread spam...maybe I got off lucky.

It's a phishing scam. Some smart-ass hackers are trying to seize the GW2 accounts (or battle.net accounts, SWTOR accounts, etc.) of gullible players whose email addresses they've gotten a hold of. They cook up these fake emails, make them look official, and lead players to an equally official-looking site that will ask them for their password and other information. To the hapless player, it might seem like they're doing business as usual, but in truth, they're really giving the hacker everything he needs to take control of the account.

You got this email because it was sent out en masse to everyone on the hacker's list. No thought was put into who got the message. All that matters is that some of the recipients actually fall for it.

Yeah, I've gotten emails like that for years. It's always interesting to see all the account I supposedly have for games I've never played.

PS the gw2 forums confirmed the "ARENANET" "GM Cuache" phishing scam.
