What happen to the Dwemer?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:36 am

I was wonder did anyone read all the dwemer books in Skyrim? Do they give any hint on why the dwemer disappeard. I think i have my own theory they dug greedily too deep and reached something terrible. Dwemer met a ancient demon, a Balrog or something like it! lol

This. Probably. We don't know for sure, but it's the prevailing theory, and more mundane theories are generally given little credit.

Also, this belongs in the lore forum.

they used the heart of lorkhan not to erase themselves from existence but to change there plane of existence some theorize to aetherius. maybe they will get homesick and come back to the mortal realm for a visit then you can ask them as a fully repaired steam centurion breaks down your door :P

From what I understand, they built a giant robot-machine-golem to turn themselves into gods, the Dunmer (or rather, the elves that would later become Dunmer) warned them not to turn it on, they did anyway, and then they all disappeared. Then the Dunmer dug it up and sold it to the Empire, who took it down to Elsweyr, fixed it up, and used it to win their war against the original Thalmor, who then hid away plotting revenge against the Empire until they got the chance to take over again and strike back.

I don't think there is a definitive record on what happened at Red Mountain or what happened to the Dwemer themselves. Yagrum Bagarn, the last known living Dwemer, told the Nerevarine that he was unsure of what happened. He remained while the other Dwemer disappeared because he was exploring "Outer Realms" of existence, and was far enough removed from Tamriel to be immune to whatever happened at Red Mountain.

Some think they tried to use the Heart to travel to another, higher plane of existence. Others think they did it to gain powers like Anumidium and what the Tribunal would eventually learn to harness. Vivec seemed to think they were punished for sinning on the level of creating a God. The Dwemer and the Tribunal are one of the most imaginative aspects of TES lore. I hope to learn more, but never the final truth of what happened in future TES installments.

This was confirmed by a dev some time after it was posted in the lore forums

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/final-report-trebonius

Long story short, the dwemer tried to anticreate themselves into a single godlike being and succeeded...mostly. The numidium talked about in Daggerfall was the result. The only problem is, they didn't seem to have any control over their body(Or for some odd reason of their own didn't feel the need to do anything with it)

It's a mystery. There are speculations, but I reckon the Falmers gave them what they deserved.

I think they just went to another world. Or realm. But some died in the proccess

That's why you still find ghosts in Morrowinds Dwemer Ruins.

perhaps those ghosts might tell us what happened? I mean, they died while trying to go to another realm(maybe), so shouldnt they know what happened

Bold and big font so people actually notice. Please stop making up baseless theories and read this. There is an actual explanation for what happened to the Dwemer.

But the report itself is a pure speculation. No one has observed the actual events leading to the disapearance of dwemer, but instead just found empty ruins and lots of literature..

What? Nonono, that's the dunmer, previously known as the chimer! The tribunal from Morrowind (well, Vivec, Sotha Sil and Almalexia who would become the tribunal later on) betrayed Nerevar's wish to not use the Heart Of Lorkhan to ascend into godhood, and Azura cursed them for it by turning their skin black and their eyes red.
The dwemer were the elves who were at war with the chimer.

Yes, the Dunmer were the Chimer, before their transformation. They were at war with the Dwemer over religous beliefs, and the Dwemer's attempts to become gods. Which is then what the Tribunal did :P

Nothing to do with dwemer, that's Dunmeri lore. They were golden coloured skin race Chimer (the way Almalexia looks and half of Vivec :P) and turned into an ash-skin Dunmers we know today.

Dwemers basically became flesh of Numidium and apparently none were left except Bagrum and some ghosts.

Its not speculation.
It is all the information from Morrowind about the dissapearance combined into one essay that draws a logical conclusion from said information, all written in an in-universe voice.

Dev's have stated that the Final Report hits the nail on the head.

Why would they wipe themselves from existence?

Unless they're like the mayans, then they would've had NO definitive reason to commit mass suicide.

That was an interesting read. It sounds more like they failed because instead of the body going with as they intended, either they just became part of it.

Makes me think.. Maybe the Dwemer only failed because instead of forging all of the aspects of Mundis back together, they only used themselves.. Perhaps if they had samples from all of the aspects of Mundis, they would have succeeded.

That's like saying the theory of gravity is pure speculation. It's a lot more than that. And considering the developer who is mostly responsible for the Dwemer that we know today went on record saying, basically, "they became the skin of Numidium, now stop asking what happened to the Dwemer," I'd say we have our answer.

And no, the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur were all there to witness the actual events leading to the disappearance of the Dwemer. Vivec said they all vanished into thin air and that he had no sense of their existence anywhere in the Aurbis.
