Lorgen Benirus (typo i know) was a secret necromancer but just why did Anvil want him out? what were they afraid of? perhaps the man turning psyco, or their reputation or was it just that a higher power (the mages guild) wanted him gone and the people followed? their may be evidence in the game but that is in speech and journal text so you only get to hear a small side of both stories so i ask you. What do YOU think happened that night at Benirus manor in Anvil so so long ago?

200 years ago the CoC entered Anvil and killed ol′Benirus for good. What happened before that is mostly speculation.

200 years ago is when the CoC dealt with Lorgen Benirus for good. He did his thing 100 years before Oblivion.

No, 200 years ago was the Oblivion Crisis. Skyrim takes place 200 years after the Oblivion Crisis. And I don't know if Traven was Arch-Mage at the time of that, but if it were the case, then it might explain why Carahil and the other mages from the Anvil Mages Guild went after him lol
